Ever get the feeling movies used to be better before? They're all slop now? That's intentional. They need movies to be loud and dumbed down to appeal to addrrall brained phone addicts. So much so that you can pay attention to only 1/2 of the actual movie and still not have missed anything
Thank God I've never in my life used TikTok or Reels. I only ever used Shorts for like a few months until I was burned out and decided I didn't actually enjoy it.
I'm also pretty sure TikTok's algorithm is purposefully pushing for dumb and/or dangerous stuff to both boost engagement and as a long term tactic of the CCP. I have no evidence for this aside of knowing that the TikTok algorithm in the PRC works much differently.
Im no historian, but ive heard people who are a lot smarter than me say that China is not really capitalist or communist. They say the CCP is the same imperialist mentality every large Chinese governing body has had for the last 4000 years, wrapped up in a "communist" flag
because a platform for exclusively short form content is just an addiction farm
every short video is forced to provide the viewer with an intense shot of dopamine if it wants to be seen and liked because it has to compete against everything else on the platform
Shortform content has destroyed entire generations.
I know every generation bemoans the downfall of society with whatever new wave of technology comes in but this one is much different and genuinely malicious. This shit is carefully optimised with a dedication and accuracy never seen before to keep people engaged in short-term dopamine loops for as long as possible.

What if they were all actually right? Thi gs DID get worse with each subsequent generation having their brain fried and little bit more. Were just now at critical mass because its instant, infinite and inescapable.
A solar flare wiping out the internet for even a few years would drastically change society. I don’t think I could even imagine a modern society without the internet
TikTok and Reels and all that shit fucked up everyone’s attention spans.
I used to be able to sit down and watch pretty much anything, regardless of how slow and dialogue heavy it was. Now, if I’m watching something, it has to be action action action all the time.
For example, I used to be able to watch porn and enjoy watching the exposition. How did the two people meet? Why did the guy deliver a pizza with a hole cut in the bottom? Things like that. Now I have to fast forward straight to the dude getting topped by the other dude or getting his face painted or whatever.

I have a friend who has an acquaintance who straight up says defamatory statements about people(famous ones mostly) and when questioned on a source, says TikTok. No actual evidence, just some person saying shit on TikTok. This person also says that TikTok is the only trustworthy source too, it’s really weird.
The most concerning personal moment I had on something like this is when I was summoned for jury duty.
It was for a lawsuit. Something about wrongful injury in a building, I forget. The plaintiffs attorney had us all in a court room with the judge, and was asking each of us, individually, different questions. Among those questions was “Where do you get your primary sources of news”. Exactly myself and one other person actually said written news sources. I tend to like Washington Post, will read the NYT other times, and then usually local newspapers for local news, pretty much all written sources. This other guy was roughly similar.
Everyone else? Facebook. TikTok. Instagram. Twitter. All of them said explicitly they preferred the short form video format for news. It was an eye opening and rather scary experience. Nobody fucking reads. They don’t even read headlines. They let some random airhead on one of the 20 second clip services tell them what to think.
So when you get in to an argument with someone on reddit, and you’re arguing because it’s clear they only read like the first paragraph or two of an article and shot off half-cocked? I want you to know you’re still likely dealing with like the upper 5% of people who even bother to read at all, because everyone else won’t even do that.
I'd rather the sustained percussion of nuclear hellfire pound our entire mistaken experiment of a species into nonexistence but solar flare attack would work well too. 🫡OOP
I once read a breakdown of how a full war would go between superpowers. One of the first things that would happen is internet would be disabled for countries like mine, the UK.

This is true, it’s called “dishwashing television” and Netflix has confirmed they are focusing on it

At first my understanding of tik tok was that feature where you could duet with other videos that lead to some pretty hilarious outcomes
