My girlfriend cooking dinner. she treats oil splashes like a literal biohazard

The heavy-duty gloves, the full face shield, the hoodie pulled tight... honestly, I was half expecting her to yell 'FIRE IN THE HOLE' when the meat hit the pan,
The funny part is she’s actually a great cook and the food turned out 10/10. Worth the tactical gear I guess!

nebvlar@reddit
Please get her 16.5 inch chopsticks, she would probably love them.
kai-vanceai@reddit (OP)
An this rate, I should probably just buy her a mechanical arm to stir fry from the next room
Donny_Do_Nothing@reddit
Bad Dragon has some options.
rocketsalesman@reddit
Now that was a fun Google search
Equal-Shoulder-9744@reddit
I recommend the XL flared Chance. It’ll change your world.
RigidPixel@reddit
Use it every day, can’t recommend enough.
modernDayKing@reddit

dawn_of_dae@reddit
This is insane 🤣🤣 people will google this and be taken aback lmao
Alewort@reddit
I think the logical progression is a remote drone. But you have that at home. It's you.
MaximumWoodpecker869@reddit
I had chopsticks that long from a takeout order but my brother threw it away and I’m actually still mad about that. The takeout spot changed the chopsticks they gave out too.
efimer@reddit
That girl got burned once and said "never again mfer". I respect that.
entcanta333@reddit
I've had bacon oil pop into my eye, face mask is valid af
Dontfeedthebears@reddit
I got degreaser in my eye at work a couple months ago. I feel your pain!
Iamwomper@reddit
Cooking bacon naked isnt fun
Genferret@reddit
Hey, no kink shaming here.
ChillBallin@reddit
Got bacon grease on my penis once. I reacted quickly with my classic jumping helicopter move and successfully flung off the single tiny drop of burning hot grease. Then I started cooking again and realized like 30 seconds later that my hand had been covered in grease that whole time and I just didn’t notice until the adrenaline wore off.
Yejus@reddit
Did you suffer any lasting injuries?
entcanta333@reddit
No but my eye was a little oily. I did a ton of rinses but it naturally pushed the rest out by the next day.
BreadKnifeSeppuku@reddit
Totally missed the face guard at first.
Eyes are really resilient it might suck ass but bacon grease popping would likely be pretty trivial
This_is_fine8@reddit
My mom had hot peanut oil burn her eyes before. She has a very strong glasses prescription and her identical twin doesn't wear glasses and I'm convinced that's why
SirStocksAlott@reddit
Meanwhile there are some of us single guys that continue to cook naked.
Hisagii@reddit
Got a burn on my belly a couple days ago while cookings. Hot olive oil
SFDessert@reddit
I once made microwave mac & cheese and accidentally upturned the whole thing directly onto my bare naked chest as I was taking it out of the microwave.
efimer@reddit
... did you eat it though?
SirStocksAlott@reddit
“And that’s the story of why I can only grow chest hair on the sides.”
Sorlex@reddit
She has the right idea. "Let it burn you, you'll get tougher skin and it won't bother you soon!" bro go dip your hands in acid I'm good.
Haistur@reddit
My friend got a grease burn that looked like a frowning face on her arm. It's mostly faded now, ten years later lol
glytxh@reddit
ive still got a scar on my chest from a particularly sticky blob of oil.
Technical-Bat2062@reddit
As someone who has Hella cooking burns on my arms that are expensive to fade, I like her lol she's smart
bowmans1993@reddit
I burn myself on my oven like once a month
Technical-Bat2062@reddit
Same omg. Struggles of loving to cook i guess
SandvichIsSpy@reddit
I think my true shine as a cook was two incidents in the past month where I burned myself and just went "Ow. Oof. Dang, I should run some water over that" and went right back to what I was doing after.
HaVoC_Cycl0ne@reddit
Splashed oil on my arm this morning frying some chicken, wiped it with my other arm and kept on going. Got a few nice splotches for a bit now lol.
SandvichIsSpy@reddit
I've got a mark on my wrist from one of said incidents. I kinda hope it never goes away, as a reminder of just how good those nachos turned out. 😅
bowmans1993@reddit
Mine fade but I keep getting new ones. Like spicy temporary tatoos
Technical-Bat2062@reddit
I wish I felt that way about mine. I have tattoos and they just just ruin my tats. Im Medermas number one customer at this point
SandvichIsSpy@reddit
I like the way you think.
Lifes-a-lil-foggy@reddit
I quite literally never learn lmao
Little_Peon@reddit
My mother had a pretty nasty burn from cooking fried chicken. Oil popped up and hit her face. Got around her lips and her glasses saved her eyes. I had to stay with a neighbor while she went to the emergency room (I was pretty young). That stuff is dangerous and the reason ive mostly avoided cooking with a lot of grease/oil and leave it to restaurants.
Actual hazard here. The gloves might actually be dangerous if she has a large amount splash - dont want them to melt - but I understand.
Hisagii@reddit
It's not particularly dangerous though, just requires not throwing shit into the oil and not having the oil smoking hot.
Updog04@reddit
Dude just told a story of his mother getting serious burns from oil and your response is “yeahh well it’s not particularly dangerous tho”
maxline388@reddit
You could die from walking. You trip, hit your head, and now you're dead. Does that mean you should avoid walking? No.
Updog04@reddit
Nobody said anything about avoiding frying food lol. Someone is just taking precautions so they don’t get burned and somehow people like you have a problem with it
maxline388@reddit
OP literallt said this:
Taking precautions is fine, avoiding cooking with oil is ridiculous.
HeadNJuicyShoulders@reddit
I hate when people clip videos and in this case quotes to prove a point. What happened to that person’s mom sucks but the person you’re half quoting isn’t wrong.
Updog04@reddit
Sorry my bad! I meant to say dude just told a story of their mother having severe burns and your response is “It's not particularly dangerous though, just requires not throwing shit into the oil and not having the oil smoking hot”. Forgot the whole quote for your eyes!!! :(
Napkinsd_@reddit
It's safe if you take proper precautions and use a thermometer
karlnite@reddit
Yah around the lips is a bad place to get oil burns. Often swells a lot and causes discolouration/scarring.
ArtBl0q@reddit
It could make her breakout also...happens to me if I fry and don't immediately wash up.
kai-vanceai@reddit (OP)
definitely!!!
BlueBack@reddit
going "ow, ow, ouch" while frying up some food feels like it's part of the experience, wouldn't want to deprive myself of that
FatCatBoomerBanker@reddit
I cook steak in a cast iron skillet with no shirt on.
BlueBack@reddit
hell yeah brother, that's what it's all about
Badvevil@reddit
Knowing the oil is hot enough to cook my skin is how I know it’s hot enough to cook my food
Equal_Pilot2378@reddit
same, i will literally stick my finger in the oil to determine if it’s hot enough. i have worked in food service for a decade and i can barely feel my hands lol.
ineedbalto@reddit
That’s metal
Icy_Negotiation_5929@reddit
Bro, they need to put you back in the dish pit for your own safety.
SirStocksAlott@reddit
It would be a miracle if you still have finger prints haha
Equal_Pilot2378@reddit
i hadn’t even thought about this! i should really start committing crimes 🤔
Chief_Mischief@reddit
There's only so many fingerprintless people with all their fingers in the world...
MedicalDisscharge@reddit
"Sir, we cant find any fingerprints, and everything is covered in a thin layer of grease"
SnooBooks2680@reddit
this made me lmao
ethanao@reddit
Someone introduce bro to a thermometer 😭
Equal_Pilot2378@reddit
thermometers??? hmmm… those cost money. my fingers are free and god gave them to me for a reason! (the reason being sticking them in oil <3)
stronkreptile@reddit
my mother watched a kid deep fry his hand to the knuckles doing that shit
OhMyGod_Zilla@reddit
Or even the chopsticks method… 🥲🥲
insanechef58@reddit
Or just flick some water in the pan
stronkreptile@reddit
yeah that’s never been dangerous or anything
SmartWonderWoman@reddit
@ u/OhMyGod_Zilla What’s the chopstick method?
dairbhre_dreamin@reddit
Take a pair of wooden chopsticks. Poke into the oil. If the oil starts bubbling, it’s hot enough. If the oil doesn’t start bubbling, it needs to heat up more. Chinese Cooking Demystified does it at the start of every video lmao.
SmartWonderWoman@reddit
Thank you!
Fuyukage@reddit
If you stick wooden objects (spoons, chopsticks, etc) into oil and it bubbles around the object, it’s hot enough. If it doesn’t bubble, not hot enough. I use this all the time with a wooden spoon I have!
G1gapu1t@reddit
Could be sticking a metal chopstick in and removing to test heat throughout the dish.
You can do that with the cake testers and meat in particular.
This_is_fine8@reddit
My boyfriend burned all the nerves off his hands when he was a kid and he does shit like this all the time. I've never once seen him use an oven mitt
Equal_Pilot2378@reddit
okay that’s next level!! i definitely use oven mitts! i will reach into the air fryer and flip food with my bare hands, i flip bacon in the pan with my hands sometimes to freak my fiancé out, and i check the oil temp with my hands. the oven is just too hot! i can’t do it hahaha
AnxiousBaby1827@reddit
This entire thread needs to learn that just because you can't feel the pain doesn't mean you're not damaging your body 😭
anothermanscookies@reddit
I fucking hate getting burned by oil. Even only a tiny spitz evokes such a visceral reaction in me.
Shadowpriest@reddit
And here I am like a mad lunatic cooking bacon in my executive birthday suit.
Insanely_Mclean@reddit
Always wear appropriate PPE.
Does she also have her safety shoes?
TanTanExtreme2@reddit
Need to see the SDS, have the appropriate training docs posted by the equipment, have the SOP and LOPs near by as well.
IamNotFatIamChubby@reddit
Are those rubber gloves? If it gets splashed and it melts it with be way worse lol
LickyBoy@reddit
100%. Or if her sweatshirt caught on fire. This is so over the top. If you are that afraid of cooking, it's likely because you have trouble controlling your cook. Lower your heat, use less oil, use q screen. Inexperience is the problem here.
pseodopodgod@reddit
bc the oil is scary & it hurts :/
klaxz1@reddit
Meanwhile, I fry bacon in my underpants
Fan_of_Clio@reddit
If she is willing to put in the effort to do the cooking? Why complain?
Hell, I would buy her the gear if that meant I had to spend less time in the kitchen
DannyKit7@reddit
She gotta unlock the anti grease burn passive. You can tell she has zero xp in cooking
jws1102@reddit
I’ve been splashed in the face with hot fryer oil before. GF is the smart one in that house.
ObviouslyRealPerson@reddit
If frying bacon is involved, my wife says that's my job
Won't even go near the kitchen while bacon is frying
Psychological-Let-90@reddit
Try doing it IN the oven on a baking pan. Better bacon, easier cleanup, and safer.
scripted_ending@reddit
Is that a water bottle on the floor on standby in case the oil starts a fire??? 😳 Please make sure she reaches for the the lid and BAKING SODA instead!
Select_Vegetable70@reddit
Just tell her you'll do the cooking from now own...
electricmama4life@reddit
Same, this is why I now have an air fryer.
Psychological-Let-90@reddit
PLASTIC gloves are a really bad choice. You thought hot oil spatters hurt? Melting plastic AND hot oil is so much worse.
paradajz666@reddit
I do this without a shirt. I hate when oil splashes on my clothes, and the clothes smell like food.
mrhappy1010@reddit
That’s funny but I think I might steal that getup
tiny_chaotic_evil@reddit
maybe you would accept her with burn marks on her face...
but the next guy may not :P
Robby_Digital@reddit
They make mesh splash guards to place over a pan when cooking with oil.
murraybauman44@reddit
Always put the burner in mild heat, that will help
24K1NN1CK24@reddit
She’s wearing cheap plastic tho. That oil can melt it and cause the plastic to melt into her skin
Matica-sK@reddit
Keeper.
CaTz_EyE@reddit
But her splatter screens. They’re cheap and will help keep her from getting burned.
AmyGiacomelli@reddit
I do not fault her for this.
Hello_pet_my_kitty@reddit
I do the same. Lol. Minus the face shield, but tbh it’s just bc I hadn’t thought of that and now I’ll probably get me one of them.
I always have a hoody tied tight with the sleeves tucked into pot holders and use tongs for everything 🤣 I HATE the feeling of getting hit by hot oil. It’s starling.
Also had a friend frying chicken when I was a kid, she had a big, like, “bubble” of oil explode one time and it melted off most of her forearm skin. Left a hella scar from wrist to elbow, permanently changing the color of her skin and minimal feeling left there as well. Won’t ever be me, I said! lol.(sorry, girly 😬😩)
sisterfisterT@reddit
This is adorable hahaha
ItsOKtoFuckingSwear@reddit
Meanwhile I cook without my top on when it’s hot out and just throw an apron on.
jweezee@reddit
Well hello there
RadiantAwarenesss@reddit
deaglebingo@reddit
OP's GF: ATGATT you: FuckIt.com
your powers combined could vanquish all evil.
Substantial-One1934@reddit
Safety first!
GITAxCINTA@reddit
use the pan lid whenever you're frying,it works the best for me
Calamityranny@reddit
Ever since I got some hot oil narrowly missing my eye I've been doing the same damn thing 🤣🤣 may have hit the eyelid but nooo thank you
nocomment413@reddit
My method is to just raw dog it. I wanna get to my grandma’s level of heat resistance one day where she just touches the pan to see if it’s hot enough. Been training myself for years to handle the heat lol
Few_Composer5125@reddit
Use a deeper pot or a splash screen, deep fry not pan fry?
Betelgeuse_PT@reddit
It hurts, so I understand her
Nappev@reddit
You now have the oppurtunity to buy her one of those mesh lids with a handle
guilty_bystander@reddit
Just lower the heat.. or.. stitll putting liquids on hot oil
inthefade95@reddit
Do you live in Chernobyl?
Phatstache@reddit
I was cooking with oil and some of it splashed on my belly through my shirt now I got a scar from a 1st degree burn. Safety is awesome
robert1985xx@reddit
Who cares, as long as she makes dinner.
Admirable-Profit-618@reddit
I don't judge her. I have permanent scars from hot oil. However I still fry food while wearing boxers like a mad man.
Embarrassed-Cause250@reddit
Smart cookie! She’s a keeper!
Puzzled_Pop_6845@reddit
Valid precautions
Low_Importance_9292@reddit
I'm with the gf on this one. Even if you think she looks crazy, she can always change her clothes faster than the marks hot oil leaves on your skin.
andrey_not_the_goat@reddit
Doing this with rubber gloves is a step closer to an even bigger mess.
cypher-dex@reddit
Must be the top comment
inherendo@reddit
Splatter screen is useful. Things still sometimes explode through if it's a big enough pop but you're much safer.
Ashamed_Emu_4289@reddit
Fun fact, there is some evidence that cooking using gas ranges indoors is a potential significant cause of lung cancer.

Looking like breaking bad up in there
74389654@reddit
sounds like she has some experience with hot oil
Crimestar@reddit
Hmm ok then. Weird AF but people like to pretend everything is normal these days.
Squeekazu@reddit
She looks short. As a fellow short gal I feel like we have a higher likelihood of copping hot oil to the face and eyes that nobody warns you about lol
she-dont-use-jellyyy@reddit
This is fucking adorable.
Sweaty_Marzipan4274@reddit
I'm 6'4" and I get oil on my face occasionally, her height must get it lots. At least she cooking, best be supportive!
Terminuht@reddit
As someone who has had many burns from grease spashes, this isnt a bad idea at all. When in a restaurant/fast food setting you should be using this kind of PPE to clean friers.
My arms look like I have snowflakes on them from all the little scars
PinchedTazerZ0@reddit
Training this new dude on how we do sous vide beef and it's supposed to get seared in its own tallow before getting cooled and bagged
I eventually had to make him do something else because he just kept flipping shit too hard and wincing at oil kisses on his forearms, it's not a race man relax
5C0L0P3NDR4@reddit
i cooked bacon with no shirt on once
Once.
mefista@reddit
Get a load of bacon nip Steve

I hate to say it, but I’ve done it numerous times. Just didn’t learn my lesson I guess.
ChickenChaser5@reddit
Thats me cooking scrapple.
RC_Colada@reddit
As a child I had hamburger grease splatter into my right eye and it permanently damaged my vision. I understand her completely.
Consistent-Arm8344@reddit
Lmao honestly I respect the commitment to not getting popped by oil shrapnel. This is just Dark Souls level kitchen armor and she clearly beat the boss.
Palanki96@reddit
Honestly i never had any troube with oil splashes. You just need pans with higher walls and don't just throw in stuff when frying
TheLaziestDwarf@reddit
Lol and im over here cooking bacon and greasy burger meat shirtless. I complain and my wife tells me to just put a shirt on, but I do it every time.
WillSmiff@reddit
Proof that guys will date anyone who says yes. Wtf is this even? Rubber gloves to protect from hot oil? Lacks cooking cooking skills and critical thinking. Good luck.
PatrickBateman-2009@reddit
She’s got the hood up and all lmao, not taking any chances. Question, does she have cooking specific clothes? Like is that her frying shit hoodie? I had a friend who did that because they didn’t want to ruin other clothes cooking, like anytime they were about to cook they went to the closet and threw on the cooking shirt lmfao. Hopefully you turned the AC up at least, hoodie, full ppe and a hot stove don’t mix.
model-citizen95@reddit
I have a pair of steampunk goggles that I wear when cutting onions. Normalize tactical cooking gear!
SirMy-TDog@reddit
I guess no naked apron for you, brother.
Mysterious-Alps-5186@reddit
Just going to say cooking bacon or burgers while naked isn't a good idea, I learned the hard way
Scurvy_BT@reddit
I've got an oil burn scar, so I 100% get it.
Voormijnogenonly@reddit
Get that girl a splatter guard
DisastrousFeature244@reddit
As someone who got unexpectedly attacked by an oil splash on face, she's doing herself a favor by being cautious
OMA_@reddit
Same. I can handle
Cold stuff but the moment anything above 100°F touches me I’m in blinding pain.
Icy_Interaction7502@reddit
Chicken splashes the worst. Fuck that.
dorkd0rk@reddit
Lolololol this is adorable and also those hot oil splashes fucking suck, so I dont really blame her for this. She's a smart cookie!!!
footoncake@reddit
I use to handle pool chemicals the same way...
pcolabella@reddit
I spent 3 months in a burn ward in North Carolina for 30° oil burns over my stomach and arm. I still cook with a shirt off. What is this.
Consistent-Menu-6629@reddit
Huh, I was under the impression you just let that shot burn you... But she has some good ideas...
embarrassedalien@reddit
smart move tbh
Silvanus350@reddit
I feel like being this afraid of the stovetop is literally just exacerbating the problem.
SirStocksAlott@reddit
Respect. One idea is to start in the air fryer and finish in the wok, can get that crispy fried chicken in the air fryer and glaze with sauce for like a minute in the wok. Might save some time not having to head to the decontamination chamber after to get out of gear. 😀
freshmarketshoes@reddit
Shoutout to her for wearing her PPE
PawnWithoutPurpose@reddit

pm_me_homedecor@reddit
OP why no pics of the finished meal?
Zemelaar@reddit
Your girlfriend is very wise.

I once dripped the freshy cooked contents of a pizza roll on my moon and it left a visible scar. Perhaps I should suit up like your gf when I eat those next time
ZestycloseRound6843@reddit
I've fried enough things to see this and be tempted to buy my own mask
pm_me_homedecor@reddit
Same. I think it’s actually a great idea. I’ve got oil in the eye before.
Yejus@reddit
Does she work in a chem lab by any chance?
ShadowConstruct@reddit
I mean, I've seen what oil can do to ones flesh. I'm not that careful but I totally get why she's like that.
I've known people who won't fry anything because of the risk of burns.
Oystermeat@reddit
at least she wears it in the kitchen and not the bedroom lol
Jazzlike_Rooster1358@reddit
Honestly after having some hot oil pop up onto my eyelid the other day, I may want some safety goggles myself.
Lone-flamingo@reddit

That's the reason I stopped cooking bacon in the nude.
arkadiansun@reddit

Shoelesshobos@reddit
Jeez don’t tell her how I fried some spam and eggs last night shirtless she might go into shock
Upbeat_Stretch_5724@reddit
It's better than having burning oil from the pan shoot up into your literal eyeballs. I would always have to squint at work whenever I put something into a pan because hot oil on your corneas hurts. 😂
Sea-Independent-726@reddit
it's like that one floptok meme
SoyboyCowboy@reddit
I would do that kind of cooking outside if it's generating that level of grease and fumes. You've probably become nose blind to it.
