AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3D expensive gift

My friend, who is very generous, apparently wants to gift me a AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3D cpu to upgrade my current rig. My current rig is old, but it runs most of the games I am interested in playing at 1080p if I turn down the settings to medium~. Currently I have a Ryzen 7 3700x cpu and a Nvidia 2070 Super GPU with an X570 Aorus Elite. He seems to want to buy an AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3D for me for 570~ USD off Ebay. I told him this is not a good idea and am not the best on figuring out where to get a good bang for your buck on pc parts these days since I've been out of the game since I built my current pc. I even suggested to get me something much cheaper but he seems to want to buy this cpu. Would there be a better use of his money? Or would this be a worthwhile upgrade? Please help me. Thanks.

no. youre wasting money.
the 5800x3D was a good deal to upgrade your AM4 platform when it was around 200-250.
for almost 600 you can just go AM5.

Better yet, you can get a 250K Plus

Thats crazy, here in the EU a 7800x3d is aprox €350
Calm-Bid-8256@reddit
Really in Germany it has been below 300€ for a while now. It's at 280€ right now.

You could probably get a 7600x and a AM5 board for the cost of that 5800x3d
A more modest upgrade would probably be the 5700x if you wanna hang on a bit longer... cuz ddr5

5700x is not worth upgrading to from a 3700x at all, unless you mean x3d. Maybe 5-10% performance improvement max. Best upgrade is to wait for 5800x3d to drop in a month for $300. that is at least 25% faster than a 3700x

I’ve been looking at the Micro Center bundles, for $600 he can get an AM5 X3D, motherboard, and 32GB of ram.

Tell him the 10th anniversary edition should drop again soon in the US for about 300 bucks. THEN it would be the perfect gift since that CPU pairs well with any GPu practically.

Not worth it at that price... And short of a top tier GPU.. 5800 or 5950 would be just as or more impactful. If you just game the 5800x is plenty.... For that matter a 5700X would be a nice bump.
Not sure if a 9070 or 9060XT would be a better spend though.

AMD is rumored to bring Ryzen 5800x3D back for the 10th anniversary of the AM4 platform and should announce it in a few weeks. Better to wait a bit instead of paying 570 USD, as it should definitely be cheaper. It has been out of production for a long time, that is why people are selling it for an absurd price.

That was fake news

Computex 2026 starts in 2 days. If they are going to announce it, it is most likely going to happen there.
admik@reddit
Tell him to get the 5900xt instead for $280
CanisMajoris85@reddit
Way too expensive. Can get 7800x3d+movo+ram bundles for $600
madskee@reddit
Sell the cpu and gpu. Add the cash to your friends budget to buy 5700x + 5060ti 16g.

Absolutely not.
5500X3D for $178: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256811585995191.html
They're a legit seller, I bought a 5500X3D and a 5700X from them and they showed up in perfect condition.

Do not allow him to waste that much money on an old CPU.
That is real friendship. 👍 👍

Depending on resolution & games, improving GPU would be better bang for your back. Upgraded my 2070S and still using my 3700X. I play higher res so I can wait for the CPU upgrade (rerelease of the 5800X3D or AM5 upgrade).
