This is possibly the dumbest question I've ever seen... The vast majority will pretty much always support the victim unless the aggressor has a very good justification.
No_Idea_479@reddit
Assuming no aggeessor can be identified, reality isn't much different either.
Sekalino@reddit
I wonder what the map would look like if the condition was Greece attacking us.
No_Idea_479@reddit
I'm gonna post it, reply to this in one day if you want a reminder.
Sharp-Membership-633@reddit
There is only 2 rules that give „legal“ justification to invade another country.
Self-Defense: States have the inherent right to use force if attacked.
Security Council Authorization: The UN Security Council can legally authorize the use of force to maintain or restore international peace and security
(Security council is a joke tho)
Basically you can only act in self defense unless your a world power.
gk98s@reddit
The opposite of whichever side is the aggressor
koltuklanmis_kargi@reddit
There are no aggressors and defenders in wars ever since wealth doesn't correspond to land ownership. States resort to war because it's usually their last option to address a vital need.
gk98s@reddit
If Turkey attacks Greece, Turkey is the aggressor it's simple as that. Turkey has NO reason to attack Greece in 2026.
koltuklanmis_kargi@reddit
I don't think wars are as simple as the first one that fires the bullet is guilty of being an aggressor. Turkey has nothing to gain from attacking Greece and everything to lose diplomatically and economically. If Turkey still chooses to attack Greece, there has to be a very valid reason. If you want to brand Turkey as the aggressor in that case, fully knowing the circumstances, so be it, but i will have to disagree.
TheSocDem@reddit
This is an extremely naive understanding of why states usually go to war. The vast majority of wars don't address vital needs unless you consider territorial expansionism and economic exploitation of other countries a vital need.
koltuklanmis_kargi@reddit
I respectfully disagree, unless it is an ideologically driven conflict, which I don't think something that exists between Greece and Turkey.
pinelogr@reddit
Well turkey attacks, so... Greece?
gk98s@reddit
Yup. I'm Turkish and I would 100% support Greece if Turkey attacked Greece.
chato35@reddit
Simple as that.
Fuck the aggressors.
No_Idea_479@reddit
Check out my poll.
Almost no difference and the question assumes that nobody can be identified as an aggressor, lol.
pinelogr@reddit
I don't think we are that much loved. Probably in people's minds somehow Turkey is still the aggressor, maybe just by size they can't imagine it isn't?
Sekalino@reddit
I think it’s the fact that we used to be an empire. People tend to root for the underdog and we are definitely not the underdog. Also our imperialistic past has led to a lot of burned bridges with our neighbors since, you know, we exploited the fuck out of most of them like any good empire.
CypriotGreek@reddit
Shoutout to our unexpected African, middle eastern and south American friends.
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
90% of Sunni Arabs from North Africa and Levant are very Pro-Turk. Slightly less than Pakistanis tho.
Botpack99@reddit
The only “Sunni Arabs from North Africa” who are very pro-Turk are rural Islamists whose perceptions about Turkey come from Al Jazeera, TRT and other Islamist/AK Parti affiliated media / propaganda outlets that portray Turkey as some sort of an Islamic Caliphate where they would be welcomed with open arms as “Muslim brothers”. Little do they know they would be treated terribly by Turks who regard them as uncivilized and barbarian.
Those of us Egyptians who have been to Turkey and have decent knowledge about the country’s history, culture and have previously interacted with Turks have either neutral or negative views about Turkey. If anything, we Egyptians - Muslim or Christian - finds Greeks to be more easygoing and we value relations with Greece.
If you ask me, I have met Turks whom I really got along with and Turks whom I strongly despised, and my view about Turkey is neutral, but I would never side with Turkey against Greece.
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
When I said "North Africa" I meant Maghreb tbh, sorry Egypt is also there hahahaha
Botpack99@reddit
They aren’t strongly pro-Turk either. If anything, they really like to brag about not being part of the Ottoman Empire while everyone else around them was.
Where do you get your information from?
Outside_Resist_8319@reddit
I am visiting those countries frequently for business purposes, I can surely say that maghreb countries except Mauritania are strongly pro-Turkey, yes even Morocco. Your assumption about your own country also may change if you visit one of the Turkish factories in Egypt as well (there are more than 200 already). I am visiting Egypt since 2006 at least once every year and never seen a negative sentence against Turks or Turkey except Sisi & Erdogan iduotic clash. I can also say that most countries in Africa except South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho are pro-Turkey. Turkey is investing in many African countries fairly, Turkish humanitarian organizations are opening hospitals, helping in agriculture, digging wells,.. while there is not even a slight presence from Greece. I will not count here how Turkish army is acting in UN forces or how Turkish construction companies have good relations that even Chinese are using Turkish companies to build when they have problems with local communities.
Botpack99@reddit
Having trade and economic relations with countries doesn’t mean we have positive views on these countries. We have similar relations with Israel but we don’t view them positively either.
Also, you travel for business purposes where discussing politics is really frowned upon.
Surely you won’t know my countrymen’s views better than me, boomer.
Outside_Resist_8319@reddit
Dude I am connected with politicians and local tribes leaders as well. Business in Africa is not made with only money already. If they do not trust you and politics of your country you will be kicked out of that country. Same with Egypt.
People that will hate you will sabotage your business,as which happaned to many French companies in last several year.
Your understanding of what business is too narrow.
Botpack99@reddit
There are no “local tribes leaders” in Egypt except for Bedouins in remote areas/Sinai who are not seen as Egyptians neither by the state nor by the population. The Egyptian government conducts business with whoever has something of value to offer and after careful security vetting, not really “we trust Turkey” sentiment you’re implying.
Outside_Resist_8319@reddit
Does Afrikan continent only consists of Egypt? Last time when I checked the African continental map there were many countries there...
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
He wasn't talkinga about egypt until the last part of the paragraph
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
Just the fact that Libya invited Turkey against Haftar, the fact that we signed an alliance shows many things.
Egypt and Maghreb are 2 different fields.
Egypt is an ancient civilization that we plundered and they have a grudge in them. Which is understandable. But Turkey's relations with Maghreb is different.
I can say it very easily, the anti-Arab sentiment in Turkey doesn't really encompass North Africans. Even the Egyptians aren't much hated by the Turks. I'm saying that as a Philosemitic Turk that numerously debated with anti-Arab Turks. Most of our population see Egyptians and Maghrebins are as cool people. Sorry if you had negative experiences.
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
Egypt being distant to Turkey is completely justified since we took over their treasure in 16th century and our sultans ate that money with slavic sex slaves. Plus their ties with Greece is very ancient. I can't say anything to them.
Maghreb however is different. Algeria was literally a birthday gift to Suleiman I. Barbarossa took the land without using his swords and returned it to the Sultan as a gift.
During the Ottoman reign, Maghrebins were never treated badly and they never wanted to leave. They were taken away by Italy and France.
Today in Maghrebin Diaspora of Europe, most of them consume Turkish media in a regular basis. Like series or songs. Most of them have sympathy for it and see Turkey as a cool country. The religious ones for the caliphate, and even the secular ("We are not Arab, we are amazigh!") types see Turkey as an example. Like they did modernize so can we.
In Netherlands, Turks are the group that Moroccans marry the most.
Most of the "Nooo! We hate Turks too! Aarrgh!" commentaries that you see on Reddit come from people who see racist commentaries written by Turks and they don't wanna stay under it. And they are right, racism isn't tolerable in any sense. However, it doesn't have an exact correspondence irl. There are Turkish groom/brides in Maghreb and lots of Maghrebin groom/brides in Turkey. We do business together and in places where our diasporas live, marriages and friendships are common. Maghrebins are the kindest one with us.
Outside_Resist_8319@reddit
Agree completely.
I was also educated in a university full of international students.. All connections with European or students coming from Americas are lost in time but I am still in contact those from African countries and Arabian peninsula. Passed more than 20 years after graduation btw. With some of them we are even in local partnerships. My uncle who was living in Germany was married to a Moroccan woman and had three kids. So, what you say is completely true.
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
I live in Western Europe for 7 years and had the opportunity to interact with the Maghrebine Community for a long time. My impression is most of them have sympathy for Turkey, including Moroccans. I may also be wrong though.

FickleChange7630@reddit
I'd support Greece over Turkey any day.
Early-Show2886@reddit
LOL, look to your own Land before...

Before what? Did the internet in your apartment in Berlin cut off before you could finish your sentence? XD
IcyRun6578@reddit
Anyone can choose the country they want their vote counted for, so it's not reliable. It would be better if they got the country from the users IP.
Young_Owl99@reddit
I would be more surprised to Antarctican brothers lol.
Inner_Variety2826@reddit
The Emperor Penguins will march in the hundred thousandths to defend Greece!
Outside_Resist_8319@reddit
This is one of the dumbest post in reddit. Person who posted it first spread it ive r/askgreece as well. So, why he did not spread it over r/askTurkey or r/Turkey if he had no agenda. You can also choose your country as location as well which makes location of voting useless..
Some kind a nationalist masturbation..
theoddturk@reddit
greeks when the post they crossposted to every greek sub ever turns out pro-greek:
Yarrrak31@reddit
I am sure the world would still support Greece even if they nuked us out of nowhere completely unprovoked
Inner_Variety2826@reddit
But the provocation so far is pretty one sided.
GoryGent@reddit
Maybe because greece has no chance on winning
Inner_Variety2826@reddit
What does this even mean?
GoryGent@reddit
To be honest, i have no idea why i commented this, maybe it was meant for another comment
Botpack99@reddit
Gee I wonder why?
Early-Show2886@reddit
They always do that, look at Cyprus. Unfortunately.

why would a christian balkaners support a muslim middle eastern country? asking this question here is quite absurd. Of course they will choose greece
-Passenger-@reddit
Nah I agree with you
Greece is not one of my favorite countries, but I would support them over any Muslim country any day
I wouldnt even care who is in the wrong
VisibleReport5008@reddit
war arent done for religios reasons these days you know
-Passenger-@reddit
I know but what has that to do with my personal reasons who I would support?
GoryGent@reddit
The reason why wars start 👆 in the first place
Stealthfighter21@reddit
Why would they support an aggressor, is the better question.
yns1899@reddit
I don't remember us attacking Bulgaria.
TheSocDem@reddit
In the hypothetical posed by the question Turkey is the aggressor.
Early-Show2886@reddit
One possible scenario is: Greeks attack and expel the Muslim minority of Western Thrace, which would then unfold similarly to what happened in Cyprus.
StunningComment6064@reddit
More interesting would be who would Europe support in Turkey invade Serbia for example. :D
bruhmanbruuh@reddit
What kind of bullshit , bait post is this shit?
IcyRun6578@reddit
9 people voted from North Korea, and 17 from Antarctica? At least try to make it look realistic.
Saalle88@reddit
Greece friends ofc.
StunningComment6064@reddit
Only Bosniaks (and many Albanians as well) would support Turkey. The rest of Europe would be on Greek side, no doubt?
LOKLOREK@reddit
Bosnia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, half of Albania.
Early-Show2886@reddit
All who vote for greece, would attack the Muslim minority in Western Thrace, Greece? Isnt it ?
Forward-Rub-8187@reddit
Grecde why is it even a question?
Karamazovakis@reddit
By «support» most countries mean a strong worded letter.
amazingamy19@reddit
Duh..
canyoubelieveitt@reddit
Greece ofc what question is this
WinstonSmith27@reddit
Depends on how, why and who started the war.
