I'm looking for advice to best fix this issue with the trim myself? Any advice is appreciated

Replace it for sure. But if you’re hell bent on salvaging it, wet sand it to remove the shit, plastic primer, paint, clear

Prior owner painted my center console trim metallic orange. Cheapest solution was to get a replacement on eBay. Idiot even signed the back of the console with his name as if it was a work of art. OEM color on mine is silver. I had to replace around 6 dash parts that got the orange treatment and I looked at every solution from wrap to paint. Replacement was the best.

A friend of mine once bought a Civic Si that the previous owner had painted the entire interior silver, including the dash. Ended up stripping it, blasting, and repainting in charcoal gray. Was a ton of work, but looked awesome afterwards.

Vinyl wrap it. Make sure what you get is UV protected. Just take it all apart, sand lightly till smooth and wrap it per the wrap manufacturer instructions.

Goo Gone, looks like some type of face plate was on there and they ripped it off leaving the glue behind.

In person it looks like the silver finish that was applied has started to erode. I was wondering if I should try to lift up the rest of the finish there though

It kind of looks like the carnage those cheap AC "fresheners" cause (the ones that clip to the vents). They melt/erode plastic and cause similar patterning that I see in the pictures.
If its actually eroded the finish, sanding it down is probably your best bet. But then you'd need to repaint.
If you can find the parts and they're within budgets, just replace them and save the headache. Sanding + painting won't look the same as OEM

Pull it all out, clean it well with hot water and dawn, wrap it and call it a day

I agree with this, probably the best option if you don’t want to look for a direct replacement.

Did you let a wild wolverine loose in your car?

And deadpool.

Remove it, clean it, sand it, spray some filler primer on it, sand again, paint it (semi gloss or satin for hiding imperfections and not blind you if the sun hits it just right), clearcoat and polish.
It'll be labor intensive but it should look good when its done.

It’s plastic. Either take it all out, clean it, wet sand, and paint or wrap it.
Or buy another one and just replace it. I bet eBay has it. Search “year make model console trim”
