The Rockford Files?

Who is excited for the reboot with david boreanaz? Who would play rocky, angel? What will he be driving?! My vote: Martin Short as Rocky, Pete Davidson for Angel. Stick with a 76 Firebird, maybe upgrade slightly to a Formula.

Poker Face did it right by being a Columbo reboot in spirit but not in practice.
LagrangianMechanic@reddit
It’s gonna be worse from the theme song all the way down the line.
TheJokersChild@reddit
Nope. I fail to see why we need this, or how anyone could possibly top James Garner as Rockford. Didn't they learn from The Equalizer or Matlock?
At least it's not coming back as a movie.
CB_Chuckles@reddit
Agree so very much. The last series remake that truly worked was Battlestar Galactica. A spinoff, if there were spin off possibilities is the much better approach and always has been, imo.

The 2012 remake of Space Battleship Yamato was frickin’ awesome and I daresay better than the original. Anyone who was a Star Blazers fan needs to get to Crunchyroll, etc and watch Space Battleship Yamato: 2199 (available dubbed and subbed).
ATFGunr@reddit
I agree, it’s not necessary at all to reboot what was a classic. Jim Garner was peak.
gjohill@reddit
No. Stop. Be original. Have an idea and write it. Writers are basically tracing others work.
NeighborhoodNo4274@reddit
That’s the problem; the writers are bereft of original ideas. It’s why there’s so much reality tv garbage on.
Tralfaz1138@reddit
I like Boreanez and think he has the ability to play the part, but my real worry is how bad so many script writers are now. Stephen J Cannell written shows seemed to be able to get that sarcastic wit in the dialog while not making the characters overbearing that a lot of modern writers seem to have trouble with.
ggibby@reddit
Why not use the old scripts?
Most of them would still work since there are few technology or political/cultural references.
I re-watched Honey West and that would work as a direct re-shoot, too.
dbrmn73@reddit
Why the fuck can Hollywood not come up with new ideas for movies/TV instead of remaking and horribly at that all the old stuff?
ggibby@reddit
Poker Face was a pretty good 'new but referential' show, but even that went off the rails eventually.
floppy_breasteses@reddit
To a point, I understand. New ideas are increasingly hard to come by but simply cranking out new content for the sake of doing so, regardless of quality or originality is putting people off.
dawgfanjeff@reddit
No doubt the new theme song will pale in comparison to the original.
I wonder if they'll figure out a way to recycle the answering machine gag.
nixtarx@reddit
Boreanaz IS Angel, lol
Melodic_Caramel1777@reddit
I see absolutely no need to reboot The Rockford Files. The James Garner show was perfection, and that’s the show I’ll continue to watch.
TiredWillie24@reddit
Another unneeded reboot. I'll stick to watching the original.
corpus-luteum@reddit
Why would anybody be excited for another shite reboot?
floppy_breasteses@reddit
Oh, good. Another reboot/reimagining of something already done well. The film and television industry is on life support. Creativity must be being screened out deliberately.
CeeTheWorld2023@reddit
Media stopped being fun, once the good drugs stopped flowing. Just my opinion. Course, it could be since I stopped doing the aforementioned drugs 🤷🏽
ggibby@reddit
Whoa - this is news to me but that's potentially great casting.
Boreanaz has a similar world-weary vibe to Garner.
floppy_breasteses@reddit
Yeah, but minus the charisma or gravitas. I want to like David Boreanaz but he's a little flat. Doesn't deliver much to the viewer.
Moovanymountain@reddit
On which beach in LA is he going to park that trailer now?
Federal-Membership-1@reddit
It's gonna suck. Same as Magnum PI reboot.
MusicalMerlin1973@reddit
Hollywood: we’re afraid to try anything new, so let’s run back something old. Again.
You aren’t going to top James garner.
Humbuckerluvr@reddit
This is the correct response. No way to top Jim Garner.
Provocating@reddit
Jay Leno talking about the car if you are interested.

jeffnorris@reddit
I won't watch this
SubatomicGoblin@reddit
This is a horrible idea.
Scarpity026@reddit
Nope. Just like every other TV show or movie they try to reboot.
skeeterbmark@reddit
Not excited at all. Rockford was a near perfect show. Jim worked as a character because Garner was so charismatic. Boreanaz is about as charismatic as dish towel.
whatgives72@reddit
They better not touch the theme song.
NeverEverMaybe0_0@reddit
You know they are.
gmkrikey@reddit
I absolutely cannot stand Pete Davidson so no God no.
Martin Short could do Rocky. I could see that.
hughcifer-106103@reddit
Wait what
CursorTN@reddit
This is the first time I’m hearing about this. Very interesting. I absolutely adored the Blu-ray remaster of the OG show!
some_one_234@reddit
I can’t see it being as good as the original
Fritzo2162@reddit
Yeah, they’re going to make everyone with perfect hair and chiseled looks wearing collard shirts with the top 3 buttons undone.
najing_ftw@reddit
Must keep the theme music
FionaFierce11@reddit
The one that instantly started playing in my head as I read this? Yeah, it’s a good one
AbesNeighbor@reddit
His daughter is behind it and seems enthusiastic. Se said to give it a chance, so I'm game. Though I think it's going to be hard to capture the style & feel, 90% of which was Garner.
