My wife was terrified by this movie and hates it to this day.
WilliamGrantham80@reddit
HELL YEAH!!!
LORDCOSMOS@reddit
Siskel and Ebert hated this movie
Tylerdurden389@reddit
Wonder Years was my favorite show as a kid, so this and "Vice Versa" got many viewings back then. Somehow "The Wizard" eluded me and I never even heard of it until I was 22.
FlyinRyan123456@reddit
Loved it

Little Monsters was my JAM when I was a kid

I don't think you're supposed to give the name of the movie. Apparently we're meant to guess it.
jason360@reddit
Really? We just talk about this movie which shall not be named?
ElectronicFloor1898@reddit
Oh, just drop dead already, Fred.
u0xee@reddit
I am personally thanking you for naming it.
jason360@reddit
Awww thanks!
Born-Agency-3922@reddit (OP)
I asked if any of you were fans. If you were a fan, you wouldn’t have to guess the name of the movie.
marcos_MN@reddit
Wouldn’t guessing it be naming it?
FeePsychological6842@reddit
That movie definitely had a way of sticking in your memory long after you outgrew it.
lucidspoon@reddit
It still holds up, and my kids love it.

This movie gave me nightmares for ages! I used to have to run and jump in my bed because I was afraid monsters would grab me!
spanishpeanut@reddit
It scared me. I never made it past the first few scenes as a kid once we had it on video.
space_cowboy80@reddit
I warms given this by my sister, she worked in a video shop and it was an ex rental that was being tossed out. This movie flew so far under the radar in the UK, it was damn near sea level. And it.....sucked. I watched it so many times though. Loved it, despite it being awful.
Not_a_werecat@reddit
I used to have a vhs my grandma recorded for me off cable that was a short animated version of Little Monsters. I don't remember much except at one point they were at a baseball game and at another point they were sneaking past the sister monster and her boyfriend "necking" on the couch and they were literally twisting their long necks together.
I've never found anybody else who remembers it.
Fools_Errand77@reddit
Im trying to imagine Howie Mandel, the infamous germaphobe, sitting in a makeup chair for hours with a stranger touching his face.
GeetarEnthusiast85@reddit
Piss! Who put piss in my apple juice?!
My sister and I were almost banned from watching this movie because we kept quoting that line.
Salty-Housing-7547@reddit
I didn’t drink apple juice for at least a decade after this movie
Similar_Ad2094@reddit
On a similar note, my mother hated that my brothers and I used to quote "it's nothing like that penis breath" from et.
despideme@reddit
IIRC that line was added to ensure it didn’t get a G rating
MrdnBrd19@reddit
It's crazy knowing that Howie has OCD looking back at this. He must have been in absolute hell everyday on this set.
buckut@reddit
i never knew the name of the movies, it was the one with the little kid monsters, i was soo close.
pop5656@reddit

My daughter loved this movie and princess Bride. For her these were conically the same world/universe.
CheeseburgerLocker@reddit
Oh hell yeah. I remember it having some scary parts in it too. Been years since I watched it last, probably a good 30.
One eyed, one horned, flying, purple people eater... This is another movie I have weird scattered memories of. My mom said I used to love renting this one, but I don't remember shit!
couch_to_bed@reddit
+1 to scary parts. The character Boy really terrified me!
Born-Agency-3922@reddit (OP)
Damn you just brought back some memories I had forgotten.
dunnkw@reddit
I’m a fan of it now, even. Actually knowing what I know today about Howie Mandel and his phobia of germs I can’t believe he shot some of these gross scenes.

A huge part of my childhood. One of a few dozen vhs my grandma had, but it always seemed to float to the top on those long days when we couldn’t do anything else.
dustractor@reddit
Basically the only thing I ever knew about Howie Mandel was that he was in that movie. Then there was the hilarious anal prolapse cake stuck to butt clip a couple years ago and I realized being gross was his entire thing.
Goddess_Kelsie@reddit
This and drop dead Fred were my favorite childhood movies 🤣
Scissorsguadalupe@reddit
This movie was amazing and introduced me to Talking Heads!!!
DJJazzyTanner@reddit
Because of this movie Road to Nowhere is my favorite Talking Heads song.

I came here to say this too! Loved that movie and song
HankHillMyHero@reddit
I tell people my favorite is movie is a number of respectable titles, but in truth it's Little Monsters. And if I had to pick one all time favorite song, it's Road to Nowhere.

Peanut butter and onion sandwich!
MysterStrange@reddit
Because of this movie I was really suspicious of apple juice and tuna sandwiches. I couldn't eat a tuna sandwich without taking it apart for years. I dont know why that part freaked out my young mind so bad, but it stuck.
Firm-Boysenberry@reddit
At the time, I loved this movie. Another world right under my bed and no parents allowed? I was all in, right up until saw Chucky in Child's Play. Then I jumped from my bed to the door for almost 2 years.

loved it as a kid but i think it’s one of those movies that i won’t revisit because it probably doesn’t hold up. i’m also pretty sure that i had the novelization of it and the parts with Boy were pretty scary because it was pretty descriptive and left things to your imagination.
ComfortableShirt2014@reddit
Is it just me or does this movie have some dark undertones related to child kidnapping and trafficking.
Hot-Baseball-1722@reddit
This is fucking awesome. Watched this with my kids. Fred savage did great in it. Weird as fuck though
Otherworldy_Tips@reddit
Me! Now I have a complex where just like to see people react to set-up's. It was calvin and hobbes though, that turned me furry. So I'm a prank pulling furry, thanks guy with weird laugh. ❤️ I also tried to go through the floor under my bed often.
SlackerDS5@reddit
I don’t say it out loud, but when I go to get pizza I still hear Howie’s “Zaaa, I love Zaaa..”

Smoky1279@reddit
I watched it a couple weeks ago on Peacock and it's still funny.
Technical_Captain_15@reddit
Too bad this movie is an obvious allegory for child trafficking, loved it as a kid.
RadTimeWizard@reddit
I agree, but why is it too bad?
Technical_Captain_15@reddit
I just mean it's too bad in the sense that when I was a kid I loved this movie.
I could never watch this one for entertainment, or share if with my kids like I do all my other old faves (we just finished watching Problem Child 1 and 2 and I had a blast watching that with my adult lens and seeing it through my inner child lens and also sharing it with my own!); I would be too disgusted knowing what I know now. There's a few other movies in this "ruined nostalgia" category too.
Also, if you happened to watch An Open Secret, and see that hidden camera scene with Ben Savage, who played the little brother in this movie(and is the real life little brother to Fred Savage which you probably already know), it's clear he was groomed by Hollywood pedophiles and is still on their leash.
So yeah, it's too bad.
pop5656@reddit
I dunno. I take it as being cautionary.
A family torn apart by quarrelsome parents who lose sight of their children for other aspects of life. Pay attention to your fucking kids so they don’t fall through the cracks.
Makes it even scarier to me. Boy and Snick are probably the most frightening antagonists I’ve seen in a children’s horror film.
Technical_Captain_15@reddit
I can definitely agree with your take. It's not at odds with what I'm saying.
I also found this, which I'll share with those curious. I could probably add much to the breakdown of the allegory. I kight make a point to rewatch and add to it.

jason360@reddit
😂😂 what the fuck?? I bet you're a blast at parties
Technical_Captain_15@reddit
Its possible to have fun and enjoy innocent entertainment. This is not that. It's not possible to unsee what is essentially an inside joke between Hollywood pedophiles.
And I bet you have no moral compass yourself if you're commenting things like that in response to what I wrote.
Reddit ain't a party dude. Go touch grass.

Just watched it a couple weeks ago. Love all the practical effects, love all the not-so kid friendly 80s humor. Love the late night smut parody TV show he watches in the beginning (same actor as Snik). Anyone ever hear of the fucked up fan theory that it might be an allegory for child abuse? https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/7x1ex9/is_little_monsters_1989_about_child_abuse/
