Simple Questions - May 30, 2026

This thread is for simple questions that don't warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post.
Examples of questions suitable for here:
- Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
- I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
- I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50
Important: Downvotes are strongly discouraged in this thread. Sorting by new is strongly encouraged.

Is it worth going over 180hz for monitors? A lot of $200 are getting a update to 220hz or so.
I wonder if it's worth getting the newer models or just getting the 180hz if they are cheaper
LostTheElectrons@reddit
If you play high FPS games it may be worth it, but the difference is pretty minimal. I would consider the other improvements the displays may have to response time and such.

Refresh rates are skyrocketing so fast that I've stopped paying attention to them. Newer IPS, OLED and Mini-LED panels have improved so much in color, brightness, and longevity that those features make them the reason for purchasing, the high refresh rates are just a bonus.
Though if you're looking to make the leap from a 144hz (or lower) panel, I would recommend just making sure its over 200hz. As the smaller jump to 180hz won't be as noticeable as the 60+ difference.
And per the other comment, all of this is entirely unnecessary if your rig can't provide those high FPS numbers in the games you want to play.

If you aim for high fps gaming (usually shooter games), then sure
Otherwise, not much reason to go higher refresh rate
180hz is not much different from 240hz if you're just watching youtube or play demanding games where you can't even reach such high fps

If you mainly play esports titles, it could be worth it. For daily use and casual gaming, 180Hz is more than enough. A 180Hz OLED might be a better option to consider....

So not something I'm likely to do anytime soon, but just looking into it and wanted some opinions and understanding.
Liquid Cooling, like AOI set-ups. How are they these days? I've seen several people say they're not as good as air coolers for temperatures. Given you need case fans still I can't imagine them being anything but slightly adjacent noise wise? Is that nay-saying or is there an actual use case for AOIs beyond just personal preference and aesthetics?
LostTheElectrons@reddit
The main benefit of AIOs is their aesthetic and ability to fit in smaller or oddly shaped cases. This is offset by their increased cost and worse reliability.
AIOs are slightly better at cooling in some situations, but the difference is almost always negligible unless you have a 200W+ CPU.
For everything else, air coolers have essential gotten as good or are better than AIOs.
AskingForAPallet@reddit
The only real disadvantages AIO has are higher price and (technically) limited lifespan
Otherwise, they are just as effective as air coolers, often quieter and easier to install
A tiny pump block of an AIO is much easier to screw onto your motherboard than a huge air cooler finstack
You have more space for your RAM, your GPU, whatever else near the CPU
The bigger the AIO radiator size (360mm for example), the quieter it can get because each fan can be set to spin slower while maintaining good temps
AIOs typically last 5 years, some go on for longer. Once the coolant inside the tubes are dried up, that's that. But it's enough time for you to upgrade anyways
