Chicago. Just So Damn Good

Cooking and asked Alexa to play music. So far it's been all Eagles, Chicago, Hall & Oates type tunes and it's so good on a sunny, chill day. Chicago especially is just such happy vibes.

Watch the Tanglewood concert on YouTube. Esp the clip of them doing 25 or 6 to 4. But I’m a Man is also a killer performance too
WhisperedSoul@reddit
70s Chicago all the way. Plus some Hall & Oates.

I love Peter cetera and don’t care who knows
JanaT2@reddit
Always loved Chicago since I’m a kid
Saw them in the 80s great show

Their 70s stuff is so good. In mid-80s high school our marching band director had us play Make Me Smile so I learned all about 70s Chicago.
80s Chicago ... I can still sing along with all of them but always turn the station when they come on.

Terry Kath was the backbone of the band. After he died, no. Sappy soft rock ballads is all they were known for then.

Tanglewood, 1970. 25 or 6 to 4
Terry Kath smokes that solo.
I absolutely love their early stuff. The arrangements with the horns were beyond amazing. Their later stuff, after Kath died, not so much. Became nothing but sappy soft rock ballads to me.

But do you really know what time it is? ha.
I remember listening to Chicago on my record player when I was like 4 or 5.

There is a group based out of Moscow that does amazing Chicago covers. I’m sure there is an interesting back story.

I'm so damn happy to see you name them. I geuinely prefer their cover of 25 or 6 to 4 to the original; their harmonies are just SO tight. I've never seen such a great cover, such an obviously scrupulously exacting labor of love.
shakeyjake@reddit
Great observation that you can see the love of the music in the details. That’s one of the things that brought me in as well.

Leonid & Friends are terrific live!
AbesNeighbor@reddit
That's nuts! Amazing stuff.
Ray_The_Engineer@reddit
Excellent stuff. As a brass player, I've always loved me some Chicago!

Unless you were jamming to Chicago in like the 3rd grade, it’s not really Gen X music.
Latter-Confidence-44@reddit
Took me a bit to realize the same group playing Hard To Say I'm Sorry on the pop station in the 80s was the same one playing 25 or 6 to 4:00 on the classic rock station in my dad's car.
Lane_Meyers_Camaro@reddit
David Foster and the guys from Toto - and of course the loss of Kath - were big influences of change on the band
therealgookachu@reddit
And, what happens if you were jamming to Chicago in 3rd grade?
Grew up around a lot of old brothers, so Chicago, Foreigner, Styx, Blue Oyster Cult.
CommunicationNew3745@reddit
Wrong - while I didn't listen to them in the 80's (they were there and I was aware of them) they have become a guilty pleasure listen for me, now.
wire67@reddit (OP)
How so? Quick search says original band was active 1967 to 1977. Isn't GenX 65' to 80'?
lancerreddit@reddit
They were active way after 77
wire67@reddit (OP)
I'm sure they were! that was my quick google search to make sure I wasn't crazy.
lancerreddit@reddit
Wrong. They had some big hits in the 80s.
sd_glokta@reddit
Yes. I remember that video! Fun times.

I had Alexa play earlier and Glory of Love came on and I was like awww!!! Loved it.

Hard disagree on Chicago. Peter Cetera’s voice has always made me angry.
some_one_234@reddit
The city, yes it is f’ng great. One of my college roommates moved there and I had a blast visiting there. The band, they were meh. I’ll take Steely Dan over Chicago any day if you are talking yacht rock
Noliboli16@reddit
Oh man. I totally agree with you. My partner used to play trumpet in a Chicago tribute band and, after so many years of playing their music, he can’t stand it! Makes me sad because I love it so much.
