The Four Seasons š

Anybody watching The Four Seasons series on Netflix? I just finished season two as a Gen Xer, I found so much of it relatable.
The friendships that span decades, the changes that come with getting older, the realities of long-term relationships, divorce, loss, finding yourself again, and realizing life doesnāt always go according to plan.
It was funny, heartbreaking, comforting, and painfully real all at the same time.
Anyone else watch it and feel like they were seeing pieces of their own life on the screen?

Wait season 2 came out? Holy shit I forgot to check. I've been waiting since season 1ended lol. It's a great show. It's definitely a real emotion show which I love.Ā

Itās on my watch list but I am currently rewatching my favorite seasons of American Horror Story on Prime.
No-Committee7986@reddit
Off topic, but which seasons are your favorite? I do this all the time!
Unlucky_Profit_776@reddit
I rewatch Coven and Hotel a lot, haha. They are my favs
No-Committee7986@reddit
Murder House, Hotel, Cult for me!
Unlucky_Profit_776@reddit
Murder House is soooo good, when I first saw it I was blown away.Ā
No-Committee7986@reddit
Agree! Itās my favorite!

Like watching pieces of my life on screen š
Mysterious_String676@reddit
Flipping through all the movies to see which one you and your wife can agree on.... Had both my wife and I laughing and relating š

I watched the first season. Tonight I started the second but got the ick after about 20 minutes and turned it off.
cleveland_leftovers@reddit
I think Carrell must have been the hook for me in season one, because I only made it two eps into season two and itās a bit meh.
Also, did anyone else notice how Will Arnettās character was neurotic and now heās a complete buffoon between seasons? The different is noticeable andā¦ā¦odd.
Ray_The_Engineer@reddit
Great series, based on a great movie. (I mean c'mon, Carol Burnett and Alan Alda? Gimme a break) My wife and I starting Season 2 tonight, I think.
spargel_gesicht@reddit
Ooh not yet but thanks for the reminder. The cast is stacked!
Fun_Tumbleweed3560@reddit
Just finished it yesterday and loved it
Logintheroad@reddit
Gen X here. It is SO relatable. I know people have mixed feelings b/c it's not exactly like their friend situation, the resemblance is there, minus the luxury. I really enjoyed it.
Duran518@reddit
Me, just started yesterday. Iām on episode 8, of the first season. Enjoying it.
britelyph@reddit
Y'all gotta see the original movie!
Alan Alda, Carol Burnett, Rita Moreno and a young Bess Armstrong! Amazing movie. Funny, emotional, and all the things the current show is, but better. (I haven't seen season 2 yet, so...that may change.)
Comedywriter1@reddit
Good film!
Quirky_Commission_56@reddit
I watched the original with my dad in the movie theater when I was 6 because my mom was out of town for a meeting with the Teacherās Union because she was the local union rep.
britelyph@reddit
I was 12 and went on my own. I LOVE movies and as a tween/teen was seeing many movies in theatres alone.
holdaydogs@reddit
I couldnāt watch the second season. I found all of those people to be insufferable.
Comedywriter1@reddit
I had the same reaction. I enjoyed the first series, but this one mostly left me cold.
YourGuyK@reddit
First season was great. I hope the second seasons keeps the same charm.
Ok-Kick4060@reddit
I love my friends dearly, but not vacation-with-them-four-times-a-year dearly.
innernerdgirl@reddit
I haven't yet because I love the movie so much.
chdude3@reddit
Then don't. I haven't seen the movie, and this series is meh at best.
jvlpdillon@reddit
The series feels like a beach read. Easy, forgettable, and light.
NotePossible6009@reddit
I'm watching season 2 right now
EverythingScrolling@reddit
No, because I love the original film with Alan Alda. I don't need a remake. I'm also not much of a Tina Fey fan.
gchance1@reddit
It's not even a remake, it's more a reimagining. Characters and situations aren't the same other then "couples vacation together every year". It's very good, and Alan Alda makes a cameo in an episode.
EverythingScrolling@reddit
I don't like Tina Fey or Steve Carell.
gchance1@reddit
Then you probably shouldn't be taking part in the thread.
MikeW226@reddit
The original is extra cool just because Alan Alda wrote and directed it... and they shot it during his between-seasons hiatus from MASH.
A movie that feels slightly similar to me is The Big Chill. Great movie also.
EverythingScrolling@reddit
I love The Big Chill.
Perfect_Fennel@reddit
The Big Chill, I remember my parents thinking that was the tits. It really resonated with them, I was too young for it when it came out but I remember overhearing conversations about it my parents had with friends and family.
MrBlahg@reddit
My wife has been watching it and loving it. I watched some bits here and there, really like it. There was a marital dispute that sounded way too real, so kudos to the writing lol
Handbag_Lady@reddit
Iām not going to read more because I havenāt seen season 2 but YES! I loved this so much.
We DO have travel friends, too!
Ashby238@reddit
We are watching the second season now and are really enjoying it.
Cinna-mom@reddit
Loving it!
BucketOBits@reddit
I havenāt seen the Netflix version, but as a respectable member of Gen X I have seen the OG movie.
PahzTakesPhotos@reddit
That's on Netflix as well!
I haven't watched the series and have no such desire.
Classic_Rooster4192@reddit
I binge watched season 2 today! Love it! ā¤ļø
Fickle-Debt8571@reddit
Itās super cute and relatable for us. We are ready to start second season.
Buttrnut_Squash@reddit
Us too! Loved season 1!
Seachica@reddit
I just binged season one. I call it āfiftysomethingā
Buttrnut_Squash@reddit
This is so accurate!
JamMasterJamie@reddit
My wife and I both thought the second season was even better than the first, and we really liked the first season so that's a pretty high compliment. Very relatable show and incredibly funny and earnest at the same time.
froggz01@reddit
Itās relatable in the sense that if any one of the couples in a group of friends gets divorced it throws the entire groups dynamic out of whack. Weāre going through that right now in my group of friends. The ladies support the ladies and the guys are just guys we donāt give a shit either way but we have to support our spouses so weāre stuck in the middle of trying to support our friends without trying to alienate anyone. Itās sucks.
jenna125@reddit
Iāve been watching it. It felt a bit outdated. And this season when they were encouraging Anne to date Mark Brett felt very weird, especially considering what sheād been through with her former husband. It felt very off to have Tina Fey anchor to get out there with a guy who had to ask his momās permission to go out for dinner - I felt like I was on a Reddit thread.
Brief_Cap6512@reddit
I hated the trite story line with Steve C and the younger woman. Does S2 focus a lot on the pregnancy? Or does it actually focus more on the middle aged characters?
polishprince76@reddit
Fwiw, the show is based on an old movie and that older guy/younger woman thing is a big part of it. In both, it was a dumb part of the story. Lol
Moremayhem@reddit
Is this a remake of the Alan Alda/Carol Burnett movie from the early 80ās?
slowtreme@reddit
Based on. Yeah.
Complete-Math9595@reddit
It was relatable; especially Tina Feyās ārevelationā during the marathon. They were all so danged mean and snarky to each other though. Is that normal or are my friends just too polite?
hlmoore96@reddit
I compare it too much to the original and canāt get past that.
kcsews@reddit
It was meh
slowtreme@reddit
I barely made it through the first season. Iām not sure a second is for me.
Shipcaster@reddit
Authentic GenX response.
la_winky@reddit
That show was great!
XXOO1960@reddit
We are on the second season. Really enjoying it.
