Plant lovers! What are your recommended indoor and outdoor plants?

I love my prayer plant and begonia. My dracendia bores me, I feel a need for something else indoors too. Outdoors, I concentrate on food because it's so much better than the supermarket....

I love having parlour palms. They are so hearty. I have one in my living room which is north facing and hardly gets any sun all year. It's somehow doing beautifully. Every few days I just empty a glass of water in it and its absolutely healthy and lush.

Ive had various ones over the past 15 years or so. My first one lived in my tiny cubicle at work with no natural light whatsoever. I would empty a bit of my bottled water in to it every once in a while. I never kept track. It's now huge and lives with my parents lol. My current one again gets almost zero natural light and I only remember to water it every week or so. I think they thrive on neglect tbh. They must like only a bit of light and not to be over watered based on my experience. Maybe you're treating them too good 😆

Phalaenopsis orchids are surprisingly easy when you know the basics (bright, indirect light, water when the roots turn silver, ensure pot has drainage and ventilation).

Monsteras are nice. They tolerate being neglected pretty well and have forgiven me for forgetting to water them 😅

If you have a nice sunny window, consider a snake plant. They do best in the sun as they're desert plants. Also I'm a big fan of the fishbone cactus, it makes amazing flowers that only flower for 1 night and smell amazing. The plant also looks very funky. Zz plants can get quite big. I have a Zz raven which is almost black instead of the usual bright green.

Snake plants? They're low light tolerant. But that doesn't mean they'll thrive. They'll become thin and leggy with too little light. Mine is in a south facing window and it's massive and very happy.

Mine were in a se facing conservatory and started to struggle. Moved it to a non-direct sun and its doing better

I've got a couple of Hoyas that have survived my sporadic attention for about 4 years and are very happy, the flowers smell beautiful and last for a long time

I love calatheas for indoor plants - also a fab choice if you have pets as they’re non toxic, something to check for if you have any pets OP!

Spider plants make babies & don't mind if you have a few weeks if no watering, plus you could repot the offshoots & give away as presents. If you have south facing windows you might be able to grow some citrus, if that suits your tastes. Or an avocado or banana tree!

This would be my suggestion. Aka...Devils Ivy. Literally grows a new leaf each time you water it. Grows impossibly long even in a small pot. And you can just snip bits off and start a new one.

Fatsia Japonica. Can grow it inside and out. Big, glossy leaves, grows quickly, difficult to kill ( I had one in a pot in a London garden which survived a summer without me watering it)

Tradescantia inside. Lots of different colour and leaf shape options and depending on how you cultivate it, you can either have a long trailing plant or a dense bunch of beautiful green and purple leaves.

Cestrum nocturnum - night-blooming "jasmine": might be hardy in your part of London - it copes outside until you get down to about 0 degrees. Smells wonderful. You can keep it indoor, but it's often semi-deciduous if so, so you'll have a day or two of sweeping up the leaves. Grows up to six foot plus, but you can cut it back hard, and keep it at s couple of feet if you prefer. Doesn't need supporting - it's shrubby, not a climbers. Pollinators adore it.
