The first bike is dumb. It has a fixed seat and the pedals are symbolic at best. It won’t fit anyone and if you run out of battery you will be walking instead of pedaling.
Maybe assembled in us all the parts are Chinese made, motors and controllers etc. the frame might be made here but I’d even doubt that. It’s like buying a dell computer it says built in USA but they don’t make any of the parts it’s all from outside of the country!
Yeah, #2 looks like a solid bike - and beyond being a great price for that configuration (15Ah battery, hydraulic brakes, welded on rack, step-through, comfy looking seat) being backed by Costco's return policy is a statement itself.
My dad use to work at a scrap yard for years and they'd get lots of returned/unsold items.. also lots of military stuff like camo nets and such.. one time brought home a rocket launcher
Also a returned bike is a liability for the store to resell. They don't know what happened to it when you had it. So it's a safer bet for the store to eat the money and trash the bike.
This is true at almost all big box stores. I worked in the bike department at a Dicks Sporting Goods and it was policy to cut in half and throw away any return. It was considered a liability that if someone altered the bike and we resold it Dicks could be liable.
We have 3 magnums, 2 of their folding bikes and one step through. They're great. Mostly ended up with them since they were what was being sold locally. They're at least 5-7+ years old and going strong!
Can use either with a setting. Cadence is great for ghost peddling around. Torque is far more energy efficient as it will regulate the power deliverd based on the torque applied. Will feel more like a bike using it.
But seriously, why it needs 2 separate sensors and 3 modes? Isn't it an overkill? Are there any users of this bike here? Would like to know their views on it. If they really use both modes.
Your question was answered above. But also, Having both means some bikes use both. Aventons are one of the most refined ive ridden.
I use cadence when I dont want to pedal much and in my state the throttle isnt legal to use above 20mph. So my throttle shuts off at 20mph. Then I ghost pedal so I can book it.
Torque is also useful for riding slowly/just generally having more control over your speed, like where you might be mixed with a lot of pedestrians or in a group of non ebikes going up a hill for example
I'm fairly confident (but not certain) that it probably just has a torque sensor and it's a controller software that switches between using it as a torque sensor or treating it like a cadence sensor. I honestly wish more bikes did that
Check what kind of cells the battery is made with. If it's made with Samsung, LG or Panasonic cells. Look up both bikes, see what kind of cells the battery is made with and check the warranty coverage too but definitely check if the battery is made with one of those 3 brands cells or if it's made with cheap generic Chinese cells.
I always recommend buying the most affordable (to you) version of a Trek, Specialized or Giant Ebike within reasonable driving distance that you can actually test ride. You really can’t go wrong this way, although it might be hard to pull this off for $1500 admittedly. But if you can go a little higher, you probably could.
Its costco. Can't get a better warranty than this. Ride it and bring it back for any reason within 90 days. Better than your local bike shop or craigslist find.
Until the city or state decides to enforce laws banning them. They are motorcycles that don’t have VINs and good luck getting insurance.
Also, many e-motos of this type and price range have extremely powerful motors and bicycle class components like suspension and brakes. Not a good combination.
They look kinda ok I guess, but honest opinion I like the DIY approach you learn more about Ebike’s and the whole setup plus it is a very fun hobby that actually makes me money via food delivery, also if you have any little boys at home it could serve as a nice project for them learn as while learning a really important lesson over and over that mine at least are getting on one until age of 19 at least children and young teens shouldn’t be on these at all
15ah battery isn't much at All, Amazon and Walmart are your friends. Excellent warranty and return policy. Look @plenty reviews and make sure you have a minimum of 25ah . Congratulations on whatever you choose e-Fam!!!
Sure for a smaller person , Bigger person pedaling they ass off . I don't have the Unknown factors , not enough for me and others I know plus so many other options available with better prices. Thanks 4 sharing
My advice is don't buy anything that doesn't have a local physical service center. The reason being is that a lot of the parts on these bikes are proprietary (and you cannot just buy them yourself) and dealing with some profit motivated call center is a real pita.
There's a chance like my Trek it will never need it (4000+ miles and not a single electrical issue) or like my Rad which constantly needed help.
From bike shop perspective, we do not service bikes (motos) like the Urban, so if you needed parts down the line youre kinda sol. We will work on the Magnums. They're an okish cheap brand - Costco puts most of them together with quality issues, like not being able to true wheels/rotors, ensuring correct caliper alignment, not torquing bolts, and sometimes routing cables incorrectly. If you get it, make sure you stop by the lbs or check it out yourself if youre mechanically inclined.
They're not as easy to obtain parts from, so keep that in mind. And due to liability, at lbs, we only replace electrical/drive components with OEM parts; furthermore, we wouldn't help much in acquiring said parts since its not a partnered brand ... the leg work would be on you. If you want a good warranty and service package, bike, visit an lbs.
If you want to remain guaranteed street legal then they are good bikes, good deal? Not what I’ve seen but Costco is a pretty good place to shop at because of their great warranty and return policies
I just joined Costco out of curiosity and have been shocked by how everything there is expensive and not always the best quality. Not worth the 30 minute drive.
I bought a Magnum and liked it overall, but mine had a bad controller so I took it back. Good build quality for that brand but apparently sucky quality control.
The other bike is a joke, way overpriced for what it offers.
I ordered below bike 2 weeks. Happy with it so far.
Qlife Cityone Electric Bike for Adults, 26" Ebike with 2.1" Tire, 25MPH&22MPH Up to 40 Miles, Built-in Removable Battery, Peak 1200W&750W Motor E-Bikes, Electric Mountain Bicycle.
Many local bike shops are pushing back and only servicing the brands of e-bikes they sell. I don’t think Costco offers a free servicing within the first 30 days of ownership, or a modestly-procedures annual Spring tuneup, etc.
Magnum is commonly sold in ebike repair shops sure it won't be hard to find one that'll service that bike not to mention it's pretty easy to go to there sight and get parts for.
The Magnum is better, but for that price you want a class 3 with a 750W motor that does 30+ MPH. Even if you don't want to go faster than 20MPH, when you hit a hill you will be glad for the extra power. 500W bikes don't do hills. It's always better to get more than you need and grow into it, than less than you need and have to buy again.
idk why this is getting downvoted lol. $1500 for a class 2 ebike with a 500W motor is a very steep price to be justifiable, and that's just a fact. Just shop from companies like Lectric Ebikes, they sell in Best Buy with a free 1-year warranty if you want to pick it up instead of getting it delivered.
Ask your local bike shop if they will / can service the bike when it starts wearing out. Some bike shops won’t touch e-bike brands they don’t sell or aren’t Bosch / Shimano . (I was a bike mechanic for 20 years )
The first is a bike shaped toy that is not very adjustable, could be illegal (or easily modible to be illegal) and is a Unknown Brand Chinese built item built to a specific price point. Its not worth the money. Its a cheap little motorcycle pretending to be a bicycle.
The second is a bit better, in that it seems like an actual bike, but its also a little known brand thats built to a low price point with a Name Brand motor (yay!) but a no name battary (boo!). Brand matters because you can be assured a level of quality and importantly safety on things like motor, battery, and forks. This can be very expensive when things go wrong or you need warranty/customer support.
Check your local bike shop first. See if they will even service this bike. If not, stay away. And they may even have suggestions on a bike in a similar price range. Always better to support local business than a chain.
Tbh I made the mistake of buying a Chinese ebike. So far I love it but as far as repairs go my local shop said hell no so I'm pretty much learning to do everything myself. I find that I've been able to do most minor repairs rather easily such as brake maintenance, bleeding, crank arm swap for better quality, and battery upgrade. Anything else I can just learn or ask someone experienced to help me. There are lots of videos on YouTube yo reference. And it might end up saving me a lot of money of I learn to do it myself rather than paying someone hundreds to do stuff I can do with proper tools and a free afternoon
The first one looks like what Silicon Valley parents buy for their kids to ride to school and around town. Pedals that are only there so they can be legally classified as an electric bike. No actual gears to make pedaling more efficient. Fixed seat height because no one is going to pedal anyway.
The second is an actual electric bike and is technically more useful and legal.
Leaning on Costco's generous return policy you can't go wrong here if you end up not liking it.
Without knowing your intended use cases, the 2nd one is probably the more sensible and versatile ride for local errands. The 1st moped-style bike one is looks heavier for no practical benefit, and while it can possibly carry a passenger the lack of rear wheel guards makes it less ideal to do so.
I’ve looked at the magnum a bunch and I know commuter bikes well. It is okay. There are better value e-bikes from the American DTC brands such as Lectric, Aventon, and Velotric.
I would say its a terrible looking bike. In almost all respects. Maybe more importantly, I wouldn't trust that battery in my home, ever. You can get a real bike for that kind of money.
I would not want the motorcycle version for one reason. You can't pedal them. Seat can't be adjusted. The pedals are mostly there for show. Get a/the e-bike with the adjustable seat.
I vote for the Magnum. That price is really going to be haed to beat for the features. Lots of batteries like to tell you in Amp Hours (Ah), but always use Wh ratings to compare ebike batteries, because not all ebikes use the same voltage, so Ah ratings do not necessarily let you compare one battery to another regarding how much energy is stored; Wh does that. Wh of a battery is Ah x the voltage of the battery. This is a 500 W motor, and a 720 Wh battery. So in principle, you can run it wide open without pedaling (if there is a throttle) for well over one full hour on a charge. Any energy you put into the system pedaling will increase the range from just running the throttle wide open.
I don't know what your budget is, but I just got a Priority Current Plus through the "Costco Next" portal on their website. That's a great bike! You may have to search for "Costco Next" on the Costco website, then you might need to search for "priority bicycles" Have your costco membership # ready). Those also have incredible features for the price. Belt drive instead of chain (longer lasting, less maintenance, no grease), internal hub gearing, available Continuously Variable Transmission (I got that- smooooth shifting, super cool), mid engine (not hub), lights, 750Wh battery on a 500W motor (all you need unless you like going up steep hills at high speed or you weigh 300 lbs). It's well built, and the assembly was probably similar to what you need to do to the ones you are looking at. That one is their top of the line, but all their ebikes look pretty good if you know what you want.
Right now, they are only selling two models, the top of the line current plus (\~$3K with all the trimmings), and one at a similar price point to what you are looking at. That one has all the things that make them very low maintenance (belt, internal gears), etc, but smaller motor and smaller batteries. If I were going to ride a lot of hills, I'd get the Magnum. If I wanted no hassles maintenance-wise, I'd get the entry-level Priority. I see they also sell Jupiters on Costco Next. Don't know about those.
well the first one's an electric moped with a fixed bench seat hopefully its your height (if your like 4'10"), the peddles are for a really mid single speed gear that will be miserable to actually use.
The second one is an actual e bike with gears and an adjustable seat so you can get a proper fit. So if you actually wanna peddle and maybe keep your e bike a little more future proofed (law wise) Id get the second one.
Spend an extra $500 and get a Wired Freedom. It’s a beast and it has huge battery capacity. It’s shipped as a 750W Class 2, but you can unlock it for offroad/private property use with a ton more power. Go on YouTube and a lot of content creators have discount codes for an additional $100 off. It’s a solid bike.
I wouldn't call them bad deals, but I think there are better ones. Check places like Upway to compared prices. I'm seeing lot of name brand ebikes on there for less than these.
Make sure you look at how many miles they have on them. Some are used, but many only have like 11 miles or so on them. I got my Giant Roam E++ on there and couldn't be happier 2 years and over a thousand miles later.
Riding Times dropped the price of the GT33 to $849 after coupon GT33 (the website automatically found/applied it for me). It has a 27ah battery and can go faster than 20 mph (class 3). For an extra $250, you can get another 27ah battery. Unfortunately, it does not have an auto balancer.
Juiced just dropped a new mini bike style like this owned by Lectric now 3 year warranty. Just got mine yesterday blows this thing away 1699.00 right now. It blows Super73 away no joke!
Just rerouted my front brake line around outside of the fork w
a few zip ties it was barely rubbing on the spokes when compressing also pulled it out of the wrap organizer thing so it can free float annoying. Besides that stoked!
I got mine yesterday just back from running a few short errands saving gas already haha things a beast.I’m a big guy the 750w motor pulls up some decent hills.
If fixed on one of the two due to Costco, I'd absolutely go with the Magnum Melody. It's a functional commuter that's actually bike-like. Both for pedaling efficiency if you run out of battery and usability on normal bike racks. Step-thru style is also super easy and comfortable to mount/dismount.
Younger folks and kids right now seem to gravitate to the eMoped/eMoto style bikes. Unfortunately that's causing eMoped bikes getting more attention from local law/code enforcement. While the first one may be up to code, you are more likely to get stopped to verify it.
I had a 101. They are extremely well spec’d for the price. Hydro Tektro brakes, oversized rotors, heavily gusseted frames, Panasonic cells. My wife and I rode that thing 2 up everywhere. It was pretty great and at that price I’d buy it again.
Look up the laws and regulations relating to E bikes in your state and municipality. State and local governments are enacting a patchwork of laws and regulations. Age restrictions, use restrictions, helmet usage, insurance, registration, license. All varying. It's possible if you live in an city with suburbs and ride from one city to the next you'll have different laws to comply with.
This right here! It could be a good bike for a year or 2, but eventually something will need to be repaired. A good bike can be repaired for decades unless the frame gets damaged, but some of these brands have uncommon designs or use parts that are not readily available. If you or your local shop can’t fix it, then you’re out of luck.
I think the best value on an E bike from Costco is on the priority current plus through Costco next. That’s the one I’m shooting for but I’ve been waiting to see if they will ever list it on sale. It’s already about $700 less through Costco next and is a pretty awesome bike from what I can tell.

Always better to support local business than a chain.
just my .02$

Knight_Watch@reddit
The magnum is probably fine. The other ones, maybe not. Look at the dealer map. Fewer dealers generally is not a good sign.
VariousAd5939@reddit
You're way better off spending that money on a Kingbull.
mdjak1@reddit
The first one looks like what Silicon Valley parents buy for their kids to ride to school and around town. Pedals that are only there so they can be legally classified as an electric bike. No actual gears to make pedaling more efficient. Fixed seat height because no one is going to pedal anyway.
The second is an actual electric bike and is technically more useful and legal.
jwpi31415@reddit
Leaning on Costco's generous return policy you can't go wrong here if you end up not liking it.
Without knowing your intended use cases, the 2nd one is probably the more sensible and versatile ride for local errands. The 1st moped-style bike one is looks heavier for no practical benefit, and while it can possibly carry a passenger the lack of rear wheel guards makes it less ideal to do so.
GeorgesOfTheJungle@reddit
I’ve looked at the magnum a bunch and I know commuter bikes well. It is okay. There are better value e-bikes from the American DTC brands such as Lectric, Aventon, and Velotric.
Mr_poopy_butthole007@reddit
I’ve got a 750 w hub motor ebike basically same style from Amazon for 500$ it’s in my page if you scroll through
Songbird623birdchest@reddit
I got the jupiter ebike from cosco w . 10 out of 10 would rexommend
unicyclegamer@reddit
I like the second one
steel-Rodney@reddit
I would say its a terrible looking bike. In almost all respects. Maybe more importantly, I wouldn't trust that battery in my home, ever. You can get a real bike for that kind of money.
PuzzleheadedArt3384@reddit
Just go to a bike shop and buy one for the same price that has been professionally assembled and is ready to ride.
ntech620@reddit
I would not want the motorcycle version for one reason. You can't pedal them. Seat can't be adjusted. The pedals are mostly there for show. Get a/the e-bike with the adjustable seat.
SalvadorFolly@reddit
Most bicycle shops won't work om them.
ChuckFarkley@reddit
Don't know about those.
billnator@reddit
can you find parts for it if shit hits the fan?
VoteStrong@reddit
Too expensive. Get a Bull King ebike. Half the price and better specs
queen_ravenx@reddit
well the first one's an electric moped with a fixed bench seat hopefully its your height (if your like 4'10"), the peddles are for a really mid single speed gear that will be miserable to actually use.
The second one is an actual e bike with gears and an adjustable seat so you can get a proper fit. So if you actually wanna peddle and maybe keep your e bike a little more future proofed (law wise) Id get the second one.

Great advice thank you! Ya I was thinking the first one looked a little kiddy
Due-Ad7893@reddit
The mini-bike style is far more likely to attract attention from LEOs and, of course, not really suitable for anyone of average or greater height.
iH8MotherTeresa@reddit
It's not suitable for anyone who wants a bike. These things have pedals to skirt laws, not pedal.
JuJuMcJu@reddit
This man/woman/person speaks the truth. I think they’re gonna come down hard on e-motos soon enough.
Top-Watercress5948@reddit
Spend an extra $500 and get a Wired Freedom. It’s a beast and it has huge battery capacity. It’s shipped as a 750W Class 2, but you can unlock it for offroad/private property use with a ton more power. Go on YouTube and a lot of content creators have discount codes for an additional $100 off. It’s a solid bike.
Quality_Qontrol@reddit
Who cares, get what you want, if you don’t like it then return it. It’s Costco!
ToeCutter1965@reddit
Not a bike at all. It is a motorized vehicle.
ToeCutter1965@reddit
The 2nd one appears to be a bike, so not bad.
good_tunes@reddit
BlueMageNeedsFood@reddit
Specs-wise, not really for the price
glo363@reddit
I wouldn't call them bad deals, but I think there are better ones. Check places like Upway to compared prices. I'm seeing lot of name brand ebikes on there for less than these.
Make sure you look at how many miles they have on them. Some are used, but many only have like 11 miles or so on them. I got my Giant Roam E++ on there and couldn't be happier 2 years and over a thousand miles later.
RichGuarantee7482@reddit
Riding Times dropped the price of the GT33 to $849 after coupon GT33 (the website automatically found/applied it for me). It has a 27ah battery and can go faster than 20 mph (class 3). For an extra $250, you can get another 27ah battery. Unfortunately, it does not have an auto balancer.
Most-Equipment7603@reddit
Juiced just dropped a new mini bike style like this owned by Lectric now 3 year warranty. Just got mine yesterday blows this thing away 1699.00 right now. It blows Super73 away no joke!
thisissux@reddit
Just got mine too. I bought the Costco moped bike in the picture and it in no way compares.
The juiced is WAY better for $200 more
Most-Equipment7603@reddit
Just rerouted my front brake line around outside of the fork w a few zip ties it was barely rubbing on the spokes when compressing also pulled it out of the wrap organizer thing so it can free float annoying. Besides that stoked!
Most-Equipment7603@reddit
I got mine yesterday just back from running a few short errands saving gas already haha things a beast.I’m a big guy the 750w motor pulls up some decent hills.
Hardwarethewolf@reddit
Can second the Lectric recommendation, I’ve had my Xpedition 2.0 for about 6 months and it’s perfect

I just got my XP750 this week. Love it. And two shops in my area are cranking up to carry them. Wow .
knucles668@reddit
And they have that super one coming out on the fall.
RichGuarantee7482@reddit
Wasnt it $2500 last year? It's really amazing how prices are falling for ebikes.
The bike is overpriced, but you get the costco return policy which is super nice.
RedGobboRebel@reddit
If fixed on one of the two due to Costco, I'd absolutely go with the Magnum Melody. It's a functional commuter that's actually bike-like. Both for pedaling efficiency if you run out of battery and usability on normal bike racks. Step-thru style is also super easy and comfortable to mount/dismount.
Younger folks and kids right now seem to gravitate to the eMoped/eMoto style bikes. Unfortunately that's causing eMoped bikes getting more attention from local law/code enforcement. While the first one may be up to code, you are more likely to get stopped to verify it.
RichardTheWord@reddit
The one with the umbrella looks cool
peedubb@reddit
That first one is marked down from its original price of like $2300
EM_Doc_18@reddit
The first one is great if you want your child to pretend to be on a bike and then die in a collision with a car.
fugaziiv@reddit
I had a 101. They are extremely well spec’d for the price. Hydro Tektro brakes, oversized rotors, heavily gusseted frames, Panasonic cells. My wife and I rode that thing 2 up everywhere. It was pretty great and at that price I’d buy it again.
Z08Z28@reddit
Look up the laws and regulations relating to E bikes in your state and municipality. State and local governments are enacting a patchwork of laws and regulations. Age restrictions, use restrictions, helmet usage, insurance, registration, license. All varying. It's possible if you live in an city with suburbs and ride from one city to the next you'll have different laws to comply with.
BusinessCasualBee@reddit
Get the one that’s a bike not the douche mobile
mayorlittlefinger@reddit
Ask your local bike shop if they are ok servicing that brand
WoofusTheDog@reddit
This right here! It could be a good bike for a year or 2, but eventually something will need to be repaired. A good bike can be repaired for decades unless the frame gets damaged, but some of these brands have uncommon designs or use parts that are not readily available. If you or your local shop can’t fix it, then you’re out of luck.
JoemamatheIIIjr@reddit
i mean, depending how much you got to spend but bad speeds, good brands.
PitifulDisaster3688@reddit
Only does 20mpg and not serviceable
shmiona@reddit
Ride1up Vorsa is basically the same as the 2nd bike with a bigger motor and bigger wheels for the same price

Takes the picture by a local bike shop. Ask them if they will work on them. You will need service.
aqua_seafoam@reddit
Just buy something from a bike shop so you can get it serviced when need be
stingyboy@reddit
I think the best value on an E bike from Costco is on the priority current plus through Costco next. That’s the one I’m shooting for but I’ve been waiting to see if they will ever list it on sale. It’s already about $700 less through Costco next and is a pretty awesome bike from what I can tell.
DookieDanny@reddit
Look into lectric brand bikes.
WilliamBontrager@reddit
Id have to see the specs but at least the urban has better tires than most.
Imaginary_Trust_7019@reddit
It's Costco, so if you don't feel like it's worth the squeeze you can always return it. I spend a lot more than that on my (albeit name brand) e-bike.
Icy-Strength-5319@reddit
He'll no
AdBig2355@reddit
The urban 101 is just an emoto and will be horrible to pedel.
For 1500 you could get an ebike from a more established budget brand. Lectric, Aventon.
PedalPusherJ@reddit
It's a decent moped style e bike... tired one at a ebike expo.
Almost got one but I decided on a different style.
ZippierUser@reddit
No. Besides, a store like that usually does not have the people that fully know what they are doing
