Payless Shoes...though I don't recall the 'source' part. Would always get my shoes from here.

if we were really being fancy we dyed our dress shoes to match our dresses 😂
a_solid_6@reddit
Being in someone's wedding and them telling you what color to have your shoes dyed 😂
Also remember those little shoe clips that you could switch out on your dress shoes to change up the style lol
avalonfaith@reddit
Wow. This, I remember. I also remember it being ShowSouce, but the dying of those neutral "pumps" for "fancy" events is something that I have not even once thought about doing as an adult.
DateCard@reddit
I was obsessed with the color swatches for the Dyeables!
ohmygoditspurple@reddit
This place ended up getting really expensive for what it was.
Darkest_Rahl@reddit
I still shop there (Southern Ontario, Canada). Do you guys not have any where you are?
Grandeftw@reddit
I remember kids in school looking at my kmart or Payless shoes and be like ProWings? Teach me how to fly mother fucker
Usual-Bag-3605@reddit
What in the Mandela Effect is this?! I definitely don't remember source being at the end of the shoe on the building.
DefinitionSuperb1110@reddit
Google Image search shows a multitude of examples of this version of the store signage.
This isn't a Mandela Effect case, this is you having a poor memory.
Usual-Bag-3605@reddit
I'm gonna hold your hand when I say this: All MEs are a result of poor memory. Otherwise, folks who lived in South Africa would also remember Mandela dying in prison.
DefinitionSuperb1110@reddit
Generally with the ME there isn't a staggering amount of evidence that proves the person making the claim to be wrong.
Usual-Bag-3605@reddit
I bet you're super fun a parties 😂
Prestigious_Egg_6207@reddit
Ah, the standard troll answer when they can’t think of a real comeback
DateCard@reddit
It was definitely Payless Shoe Source. I still refer to its full name, just like Ross will always be Ross Dress For Less.
mackyoh@reddit
“Burlington Coat Factory It’s More than Just Coats” was burned into my neurons
Usual-Bag-3605@reddit
Oh I don't disagree. As I said elsewhere, I remember the ads having source in it, just not the storefronts. Funny how memory works 🤷
FriedBreakfast@reddit
I also remember source being at the end, although I never could figure out why it was there.
MinivanPops@reddit
There was a portal at the back of every store, where shoes would bubble up
_ism_@reddit
i don't remember it on the storefronts, but i do remember some ad audio with the word "shoesource" and i remember trying to stay that out loud and saying "sue shores" and it was funny for a kid i guess
Usual-Bag-3605@reddit
Exactly. I remember the name in ads having source, but not the storefronts.
krissym99@reddit
Payless, Kmart, Caldor, Jamesway...all of my clothes and shoes came from those places. Eventually I saved up some babysitting money to buy a pair of jeans from Contempo Casuals and thought I was just the coolest.
mackyoh@reddit
Contempo, Wet Seal, Dhalias (catalogue for me) Pacific Sunwear, Piercing Pagoda
Bradley’s, Ames, Woolworths to take another step back.
gesis@reddit
Payless, KMart, and Zayre here.
avalonfaith@reddit
Holy shit. Contempo!!!! Wow.
Funkdamentalist@reddit
Byway, Zellers
KawaiiMaxine@reddit
I got bullied like hell for my champions from Payless, now champions are a name brand
TetraLoach@reddit
I remember getting dragged in 4th grade for wearing ProWings when everyone else had Dopemans or Pumps. (Yes, I'm old AF)
Also, my shoes would straight fall apart after about two months, but it would be another six before my parents would buy me a new pair. I can still feel the loose sole just flapping away.
TeeTownRaggie@reddit
I remember it as store not source.
sleigh_all_day@reddit
I got a pair of Steve Madden knockoffs. Kept getting compliments anyway. I actually miss this store.
sleepy_unicorn40@reddit
This store helped keep shoes on me (as a kid) and my kids until they closed down. I wish they would reopen like ToysRUs.
fanofoddthings@reddit
Had real sturdy boots. I miss them.
a_solid_6@reddit
I remember the "source" but I think they took it off the signs in the latter years of I'm not mistaken.
Man, I miss being able to nab a cute pair of shoes for $12. When their prices started going up, I was like "whoa, who do you think you are? JC Penny?"
avalonfaith@reddit
They are certainly not 🎶where fashion comes to life🎵

Josephthebear@reddit
We all did our little walk to make sure they fit 😂
a_solid_6@reddit
And to make sure all the lights work 😂
Slow_Maximum9332@reddit
Don't forget mom pressing down to feel where my toes were in the shoe.
Horror_Garbage_9888@reddit
Needed to make sure they made me run faster
OregonTripleBeam@reddit
I still remember the smell of the inside of those stores. A combination of pleather and KMart-sourced purfume.
roxylikeahurricane@reddit
Dear lord that was just quite the olfactory memory unlocked
al_rey503@reddit
I love that smell. I came to find out when I was older and has a job unloading containers from all over the world I can tell you for fact that smell is how the air smells in china. All Chinese containers reek of this scent when you crack them open, India also has a scent as well as the Middle East. Payless also smells like Khols, Mervyns, and all 99 cent stores.
WayneS1980@reddit
You could pay more, but why?
OutlandishnessBig527@reddit
“First the month” vibes
Cael_NaMaor@reddit
Did you see that show where they took Payless Shoes & set up a shop in ritzy shopping neighborhood & charged an extra couple hundred on the shoes & sold several. Filming the whole time. Had a bunch of jackasses commenting on the quality.
blove135@reddit
I remember getting made fun of because I got my shoes from here.
One-Earth9294@reddit
My dad was this place's #1 customer. I never saw brand name SHIT as a kid lol.
TheREALBaldRider@reddit
I got a lot of shoes there when I was a kid. Can’t remember the last time I saw one
