Hey all. Obligatory not a trucker. Just wanted to let you all know that I was in the Rio grande valley for an appointment and flying out I got picked up at a checkpoint. Have a us citizen wife and have a green card application ongoing but my visa was expired. Ended up being taken to the CBP detention site where we were treated like animals. I was there for 8 days and there were others who were there for up to 30 days. Later ended up getting transferred to ICE, and finally got released after a 4 week ordeal. Met almost 10 truckers who got picked up delivering a payload many of whom had asylum applications or marriage green card applications ongoing. I know truckers come from a wide variety of countries and a wide variety of immigration statuses. Many of them ended up getting released later on. Please take my experience as a lesson and please don't deliver any payloads to the Rio grande valley.

Half these dudes voted for this
Revival-Waters@reddit
Hell, yes, I did!
oickles@reddit
What has improved for you since?
Revival-Waters@reddit
Rates are going up as illegals drivers are busted.
Thousands and thousands of illegals or invalid CDLs have been pulled. Also makes the road safer.
I personally several people hit by illegal immigrants who had fake insurance and information and fled so they were SOL.
Also, one thing corporations do to supress wages is bring in masses of cheap labor to drive down wages and worsen working conditions.
So stopping the influx of millions and millions of illegal immigrants that provide cheap labor will improve the workforce and working conditions.
Also, banning DEI (systemic racism) at the federal and institutional level has been incredibly beneficial for our country. Systemic racism at any level is bad.
Not to mention banning the federal funding of trans surgeries and medication in minors, and putting pressure on hospitals to stop harming youth with those things, is a huge win for humanity...
There's lots more, I could go on...
oickles@reddit
What does DEI mean? Do you actually know that it helped White Americans too? Under qualified people for jobs who weren't smart enough or literate got into good jobs because of DEI. If I'm correct, half of the nation's government assistance and DEI dependency are white americans. Who exactly are you trying to hurt?
Also Millions? Man if rates go up then shipping costs go up and people already under financial strain would order less products then?
I thought tbat there was 0 immigration into the country. AFAIk, there hasnt been a recent incident in almost 2 years. With that being said, how many illegals are here and working in the trucking sector? Do you know? Who will replace the jobs that the illegals got snatched from?
It's funny that you mention trans people but they're less than 2% of our populations. There are more priests and pastors who hurt children more than there could ever be any gay or trans people on any scale who would.
You mention corporate wages but the wages have been the same and min wage have been the same in most pro-trump states. The prices of everything has gone up, but the wages stay the same.
Revival-Waters@reddit
DEI is systemic racism that forces the federal government and institutions to promove people based on their skin color or gender.
oickles@reddit
It stands for diversity, equity and inclusion. Do you know why we needed DEI in the first place? Because for a long time, white americans redlined people out of jobs, housing areas, opportunities to move forward based on their skin color, gender and religion.
OwnSea3297@reddit
True then foreigners came and started redlining black people out of jobs and housing areas under the disguise of “DEI”
oickles@reddit
Source? Im not finding this
OwnSea3297@reddit
I don’t need a source not my fault you live under a rock. From Compton/LA to NYC Black Americans have been pushed out of these historical black cities due to recent mass immigration. They tried it in Chicago but Trump got elected and cleaned up all those black apartment buildings that were taken over by illegals during the Biden administration.
MurphyPandorasLawBox@reddit
You made the claim, you have the burden of proof.
OwnSea3297@reddit
This isn’t a court room peckerwood
oickles@reddit
No source = no argument
Revival-Waters@reddit
You can't correct racism in the past by practicing racism in the present.
If that logic were accepted, then 20 or 30 years from now, people who believe they were discriminated against under policies such as DEI could claim the right to implement discriminatory policies that benefit themselves. The result is an endless cycle of grievance and preferential treatment rather than a society that judges people as individuals.
oickles@reddit
Why are you looking 20-30 years back when Louisiana, Texas, Alabama Tennessee just wiped out entire black voting districts? Are you jumping for joy when you see your country destroyed? The only risk to your country is you. Who and how were you opposed by DEI. Tell us, I'd love to know how you are a victim of someone wanting to have an equal opportunity to work the same job, go to the same school, and have the same life as you.
DRWildside1@reddit
Why should a company be forced to hire people not smart enough or qualified for the job? You want the worst person doing the job just because of their color, sex or disabilities. The next time you need a doctor or a violet, maybe a ER nurse. I hope for your sake they are a DEI hire. So they dont offend you.
starjammer69@reddit
Your first paragraph is a big part of why DEI is bad. Under qualified people who weren’t smart enough or literate got jobs they aren’t qualified for and those people that were smart and qualified lost out. If half the people it’s helping are white people, as you say, then it’s not really diversity. So what made those people diverse enough that they needed to be equitably included?
oickles@reddit
Because we're treating job loss as if it were 100% full in the first place. Yes. It did help under-qualified people but, hes targeting people of color and those who are different. The logic on paper sounds good but, the motive and intentions of the heart says otherwise. This man doesnt like seeing people who are simply different than him, work in the same job as he does. Simple
starjammer69@reddit
Or at least that’s your flawed logic telling you he’s targeting people of color. Because “orange man” bad…. which is the intention of your heart. You didn’t answer my question about all the white people DEI “helped” instead now you’re saying only people of color are unqualified. Quite the turn around. I’m pretty sure “this man” was tired of the racism in the system known as DEI, formerly known as affirmative action (or the quota system). Which says you have to hire a certain amount of colored people, a certain amount of women and now a certain amount of LGBTQMNOP. Which I can tell you why that whole idea backfired horribly if you want. If you hire someone for any reason other than merit (ability to do the job correctly) then you are wrong. Plain and simple.
oickles@reddit
Im not dodging your answers. It's getting late and I definitely want to continue this tomorrow. Yes, you could argue that DEI helped everyone ik the long run because it did. I dont think it's a bad thing that people with disabilities like veterns, white people, black people, uneducated people want DEI to help them. Im simply pointing out in his argument how him thinking that he can hurt a population of a few can have broader consequences. We can go into the history of affirmative action but the way this will go from here will be this: it helped everyone in some way or form. More people joined the workforce, things became cheaper, products and things got moved around more. It's not a bad thing to have, only morons who support trump and have never been outside of a rural area thinks this is a good way. If they hired off merit, wouldnt more people be displaced? Including white americans who have the skillsets and just need alittle patience?
starjammer69@reddit
Why do you consistently think in terms of race with the whole including white people? Why doesn’t race matter so much to you? That’s the problem. Stop placing value on race. It does not have any. The only value for the workforce is the ability to do the job well. A disabled veteran is covered under the ADA. People of color and women are covered under the civil rights act of 1964. With those two laws you can’t discriminate. DEI on the other hand says you have to hire someone in those categories regardless of abilities.
oickles@reddit
We can discuss this tomorrow. Save this point and ping me later
seekerofinfo7@reddit
The DEI thing was supposed to fix the problem of WASPs dominating the corporate world, but it ended up turning into systemic racism in and of itself. It also destroys productivity within companies because it replaces merit with newfound racial privilige. Its neo-racism and its cancer. What's going to happen if the status quo stays the same in the HR industry with DEI. What will that look like in 20 years? Youll probably have blind pygmy trannies getting paid to sit inside self driving trucks
MurphyPandorasLawBox@reddit
Buddy, it’s ok to simply say that you don’t like people who aren’t like you. That was a lot of words to say you’re an asshole.
Timmy98789@reddit
DEI includes disabled veterans.
oickles@reddit
"Have you said thank you even once?"
Timmy98789@reddit
Damnit, that's where I went wrong.
greedybanker3@reddit
less illegals.
oickles@reddit
That's not a counter-arguement
greedybanker3@reddit
its not an argument. you asked a question. i gave an answer. you asked about me and i answered about me. nothing to argue.
oickles@reddit
So what does less illegals = ? Who will fill in the job spaces that illegals are getting taken from? If you're willing to be on the farms, planting crops for farmers and getting dirty then I'll support you
greedybanker3@reddit
Americans. either way you asked what improved for me. i answered. less illegals.
oickles@reddit
Really? How many Americans are lined up? How many illegals are there?
greedybanker3@reddit
dont care. about 100 million illegals. so less is good.
oickles@reddit
You're saying that 1/3 of the US population is illegal??? Are you fucking DENSE? You might as well say "everyone that's not white" because black and Hispanic populations make up 50% of the US population.
There's a word for this: Genocide. That's what you just advocated for
greedybanker3@reddit
official numbers say at least 100million yes. genocide is what im against. so yes. less illegals. also fun fact there are more Guatemalans in America than in Guatemala.
oickles@reddit
Source? The US has NOWHERE near 100 million illegals man
greedybanker3@reddit
dont care what you believe. 100 or 100 million. less is better. none is best.
radical_taint@reddit
You seem to want a lower class of people to do the “dirty work”. You’re a fucking racist and you don’t even know it.
dblink@reddit
Yes it is. Less illegals is a net benefit for the country, and for truckers.
Vaguechicanery@reddit
Rates have gone up and industry wide there's a correction beginning. Rates have not been near what they should be because of an over supply of trucks from multiple avenues, which include overseas and illegal operations as well as relief loans that are coming due, and high fuel prices have tightened things as well. Brokers are actively complaining about capacity and cost to move freight.
seekerofinfo7@reddit
Diesel needs to go down and we good
oickles@reddit
Never going back down
Vaguechicanery@reddit
If you've been paying attention to this industry long enough, you know that everything is subject to change, and especially fuel prices. In the last 10 years it's been as high as 7 bucks in places and as low as 2 bucks in others at different times. Obviously it is, but we keep fucking around over there so it's gonna take a while.
oickles@reddit
We're in new territory buddy

Civil-Avocado9053@reddit (OP)
I swear. Most truckers I met ended up later getting released as the judge said that they clearly didn't need to be locked up. These private companies running the detention facilities are being paid 2-300 per person per day by the government. That's your own taxpayer money being spent on keeping people who have never committed a crime in worse than prison conditions.
greedybanker3@reddit
i mean if you dont like it you can always leave. you obviously hate our country. so go home.
theboywthagreenscarf@reddit

Captain_Wag@reddit
Yeah...why would the government be paying people for having undocumented workers? That makes no sense.
seekerofinfo7@reddit
Step 1. Detain immigrants
Step 2. ????
Step 3. Profit
Tbr though its probably the total yearly budget for ICE divided bt 365 divided by average number of illegals detained to get that is figure.
Unless he can prove that JailCo industries is getting $300 just to hold illegal immigrants prisoner. Im waiting.for the proof

Yes. Look up "The GEO Group" and "CoreCivic" for the two largest private prison corporations.
SalesAndMarketing202@reddit
That's literally how it works? I don't understand what part you're doubting. The detention facilities are run by contractors.
OhMyGoat@reddit

GabtsbyForaDay@reddit
That’s my thing… how is it people can have all the time to do something and never finish. Had some good friends who were trying to go through the dream act, were 22 when trump first took office and blamed him for not finishing the process… like man you have had 4 years after high school and didn’t complete it. And every one of my friends who are mexican, their parents don’t speak english fully if even 50%. While being here for over 20 years. If i moved to italy or japan and had kids and told someone i have lived there that long but didn’t know the language they would be insulted greatly and i justly would be treated like a second class citizen for acting like that.
Timmy98789@reddit
The whole language issue is the lack of immersion into society. Sticking to only their own is the limiting factor.
StolenRage@reddit
Many times, it is easier said than done. Often times, I believe the bureaucrats work slow on purpose just to have something to hold over these people that are trying to move through the system legally.
JRSSR@reddit
US citizens hate the governmental bureaucracy and the time and money that gets wasted just as much as anyone else... Government processes are always slow, ask any veteran. But what does that have to do with immigrants not assimilating into American culture and not learning the language? That was the entire point of the comment you responded to. The United States is a culture and society, and not just an economic zone for everyone in the world to exploit.
CanIHaveAppleJuice@reddit
You know, the exploitation by corporate entities (deemed “individuals” by scotus so they can pour mountains of cash into elections to shape laws that shield their profits) and by the obscenely wealthy who earn un-taxable billions from the ever increasing productivity of working Americans, are a problem exponentially more damaging than immigrants (who are a key ingredient in the recipe of corporate profit taking anyway).
There’s that meme with the suit, sitting in front of his giant pile of cookies, telling the worker across the table, with one cookie, that the immigrant (sitting between them) is “going to steal your cookie.”
You are a good shill for the rich, effectively angered by an immigration problem that on whole benefits the corporate wealthy, so that you fight for the interests of the wealthy and against your own.
Sad.
greedybanker3@reddit
obama and biden were just rubber stamping green cards. no excuse to have not finished the process.
atticthump@reddit
That's not even close to accurate. Obama actually deported more people in his first term than Trump did, in fact I'm pretty sure Obama holds the record for most deportations in a single year.
NerderBirder@reddit
Don’t talk to him with facts, they hate those.
dstrezzd@reddit
What I hate is people still believing that presidents are real and actually do anything. "Obama bombed kids" "Trump bombed Iran" "Biden fucked the economy"
It's all a puppet show script being played out for the masses to ooh and aah at so we don't collectivize and fuck the corrupted system.
SalesAndMarketing202@reddit

It doesn't matter who is president when you knowingly didn't do what you were supposed to do to easily prevent putting yourself through self induced grief. Blame Trump, Biden, orkylaforky the peon all you want because in four years, the next idiot is in line to push the paperwork and find new ways to make the legal citizenship life miserable by having to pay for the babies you poop out on our soil we can't deport with your ass back to the country who doesn't even slap you on the wrist before you're hopping the next train for our open border.

Cali giving CDLs to actual dangerous illegals, and Texas locking up immigrants who have the right to be here. This is one of the few countries built solely by immigrants. The world is doomed.
dstrezzd@reddit
You can call an illegal an immigrant but it doesn't change what they are
MEDIOCRE-JACKASS@reddit
If his visa is expired but hes contributing and not being a nuisance, just as every U.S citizen is supposed to do, then to hell with the Visa. Illegal or not. There is a reason I specified and distinguished between "Dangerous" and "The right to be here" truckers that cali gives illegal cdls to, often crash and kill. As seen recently in Florida. If they've had a Visa and have a good record and obviously aren't a problem, then at that point the government is causing the individual problems for the express purpose of ego. North America was built by immigrants. I'm white. I'm technically an immigrant, as are you, unless you are legitimately Native American. Canada and the United States were built by immigrants. Where do you think Cajun food comes from? African immigrants for instance. Where do you think chickens come from? Asia. Many common things in the U.S wouldn't exist here if not for immigrants traveling here. I'm grateful they did.
dstrezzd@reddit
"Some illegals are bad b-b-but muh spicy food!" You're using nonarguments that would convince a kindergartner or someone on their knees with white guilt and 0 understanding of history. I'm neither of those. Immigration laws are black and white for every nonwhite country in the world, you either follow them or you get kicked out, and there's absolutely 0 reason white countries should be any different. Care to actually answer why you disagree? Cajun food, chicken (brought by Europeans) and "immigrants built this country" (white Christians) get you nowhere.
MEDIOCRE-JACKASS@reddit
Chickens came from the jungle fowl which are native to asia. Without the asian jungle fowl being taken from asia to other countries we wouldn't have chickens, which would be ashame since they are wonderful sustainable sources of nutrient dense eggs, and the chicken itself once it is past its ages of laying. I'm a chicken farmer so I look at more than just later stages like Europeans bringing them here. Before that, Roman's took dorking chickens to the British and so on. Anyways, it should be a case by case basis with a process. Its about reasonable vs unreasonable. If they have a good record and contribute (taxes, working) and can communicate suffiently, it shouldn't be as simple as treating them like garbage and tossing them back out without an apology. Judges have the discretion to wave fines and use donated funds to pay fines on behalf of a defendant. This shouldn't be any different. Now absolutely there are too many illegals that cause problems. But cases like this are not the same as those. This is an example of a working man who has earned the right to exist in the country, being mistreated because of technicalities. If one has paid taxes and is working, they should just be granted permanent residency, wouldn't that make sense? Also... don't we want people here who actually pay taxes? Again, visa or not. Its just paperwork. Do they ACTUALLY CONTRIBUTE? I know many people who have been residents in the U.S from birth and contribute less to the country than many blue collar illegals. Now, those illegals that go around hurting people and causing problems, yeah just get rid of em we dont need more danger.
obsolete_broccoli@reddit

They are an immigrant. You don’t go around calling people 'legals’, do you?

ICE has gotten out of hand. The expired visa is actually a legitimate reason for dealing with “illegal” immigrants except here your wife is a US citizen and you probably entered the US legally. You had a visa, you were supposed to be here. Shit happens, visa expires, a month of bullshit ensues. You were a truck driver, not a human or drug trafficker, not an undercover terrorist. The handling of the expired visa was a little too extreme.
If you had entered illegally the job of ICE is to return you back to where you came from. It’s supposed to be national security or something but to the officers enforcing this it becomes legalized racism. And even then I’m struggling to figure out what is going on with ICE in Minnesota.
Renee Good labeled a rioter, driving with the flow of traffic away from immigration control, shot three times. Colorado Springs, CO birth location and white skin. Alex Pretti, white man born in Park Ridge, Illinois. Beat and shot during an anti-ICE protest in Minneapolis, MN.
Reuben Ray Martinez. Born in San Antonio, TX. Citizen from birth. Shot through his window in his car for looking Mexican, he was ethnically Mexican, but he was born in the US. This happened in Texas.
Marimar Martinez was also an American citizen with a Mexican appearance shot five times in Chicago for looking Mexican. She survived the injuries.
ICE is out of hand. They need to placed in front of a firing squad. If they need to detain and deport dangerous illegal immigrants that is fine. If they start shooting Americans because they look like Mexicans and that’s all that was required, they’re no longer a legal defense organization and they need to be shot.

ok. we dont know the intricacies of immigration laws. and you dont know the basics of immigration or reddit. because you are illegally in the country and are posting about immigration in the TRUCKERS sub. also if you hate this country get out.
Captain_Wag@reddit
How bout you stick to your own sub? There's a thought.
seekerofinfo7@reddit
My spouse has a GC and we have lived in the US and abroad for years and we have never even come close to having a document expire.
I couldn't imagine living in a country like, say, Vietnam, and neglecting to renew my residence permit. How is that even possible
seekerofinfo7@reddit
Most of reddit is bots manufacturing fake consensus. Most people want immigration las enforced. Inb4 fake downvotes
unloader86@reddit
Talking about bots and you can't even spell laws correctly? Okay lol
4DAttackHummingbird@reddit
I promise my downvote is real. ✌️
greedybanker3@reddit
all i asked is why he is in the country illegally and i just started gathering downvotes. its insane. also the guys answer was "fuck your country " why is he even here?
ConsciousAwareness69@reddit
Why not just go back to your country of origin when you’re clearly not wanted here.
TrulyTae@reddit
Immigration should be banned globally the way you sound
FatCrusher9000@reddit
By the way it was being handled past few decades yes, it should and mass REmigration should start. Once that is handled we can go back to normal, common sense, fully vetted migration of those who are worth and safe to import to the country.
seekerofinfo7@reddit
We need to shut down all immigration until we restore law and order.
seekerofinfo7@reddit
No not globally. Just in the United states
greedybanker3@reddit
i think globally everyone should stay in their country a couple years.
Civil-Avocado9053@reddit (OP)
Lmao. Cry harder
jdizzle82@reddit
Only one crying is you mijo
crudeshag@reddit
Lol eat a bag of dicks
jennoford@reddit
Well if a driver has a visa that is not expired and they are keeping up with their documents why would they need to avoid the border? As a citizen we are constantly having to keep our own documents straight so why as a non citizen do you think you don’t? Very little sympathy other than the treatment you got while detained as that ain’t right. But you’re fortunate you were not deported and are still working as a driver. What was the lesson you learned btw? Avoid the border? Nothing about keeping your paperwork up to date? smh
Calm_Check_4188@reddit
You do realize the trucking companies knowingly look the other way when they hire drivers who are here illegally and have no business behind driving eighty thousand when they can't read our signs and are a danger to the community they go through? I get ICE is bullshit, but I don't see anyone complaining about it coming up with anything better than the hot air deflating from a fizzling balloon because they obviously had a reason to bring you in or are you here illegally and were trying to pull a fast one on border patrol? The point is, if you aren't here illegally, you have nothing to fear if they ask you what you're hauling and why you're here because until people get a better idea to combat the government made illegal billion dollar enterprise, you might as well blow up a balloon and suck in the helium.
TruckerSob@reddit
guy in the country with an expired visa surprised that he gets held by ice!??? this country is a joke for letting you go.
wild-wiesel@reddit
Should’ve been in longer.
PM_ME_YOUR_QUORUMS@reddit
that's rough, especially with a green card app already in motion. the thing is for guys actually driving commercial routes down there it's way more complicated than just "don't go" since a lot of freight runs through the valley. i've heard from a few drivers that the checkpoint situation has gotten way more aggressive in the last couple years, and even people with everything technically in order are getting hassled or held up for hours while they verify stuff. the real issue is the detention conditions you're describing sound legitimately bad, and if there's a legit application pending it shouldn't take weeks to sort out. sucks you got caught in that. hope the green card comes through soon and this whole thing gets resolved for you.
melovemelongtimee@reddit
Can I get a witness!?!?
HowlingWolven@reddit
Oooof.
Stay atop your immigration paperwork, hombre. Especially nowadays. :/
Civil-Avocado9053@reddit (OP)
Yea. Unfortunate situation. People living in RGV had been traveling back and forth her whole life all of a sudden got picked up. Terrible conditions people are living in. Glad I got out as quickly as I did.
Pure_Issue_3315@reddit
You were in the wrong. Absolutely zero accountability
seekerofinfo7@reddit
Not a very reddit comment but you got no business on our roads. Go home and drive a truck
Civil-Avocado9053@reddit (OP)
Not a trucker yo
seekerofinfo7@reddit
Wait so your wife is driving the rig and youre the passenger? What country did she order you from?
Civil-Avocado9053@reddit (OP)
Order me from? What am I an Amazon package?
MoistExcellence@reddit
No, because they're here legally.
HoodieGalore@reddit
After four weeks and 8 days you get released and come to reddit? You been locked up since mid-April?
jdizzle82@reddit
We've reached peak reddit when this is on a TRUCKER sub. Stop ruining every sub.
derpmcturd@reddit
lol
seekerofinfo7@reddit
If india/Russia/wherever had decent low to moderate skill jobs, you can bet they wouldnt hire foreigners to fill those roles. American citizens need to learn to be protectionist of our jobs, especially something like logistics.
Unironically, if anyone is out there crashing into minivans and school busses it should be the people who grew up here.
It does seem like there are a lot more Chinese guys driving truck now. I guess they pick up badic english faster than punjabs
Vaguechicanery@reddit
So you're saying don't haul freight near the border if you're illegal... Okie dokie. Next up: the oven is hot when you turn it on
deezkeys098@reddit
I think you in the wrong sub. We have seen truck stops actually have parking and we are getting more miles a week than in the last 5 years ever since they been locking illegals up and not letting them run cheap freight
