It may be because I'm part Japanese myself but I've always admired the guy. His writing is good, but beyond that, he truly felt that modern Japan was so awful that his own life was not worth living anymore. But he was also so charismatic that every one of the people that accompanied him to the military base that he knew he would not be able to take over were going to commit sudoku with him, but he talked every single one of them out of it because despite his pessimism, he convinced them that they all had something to live for.
His suicide was also botched too. His attendant who was chosen to deliver the final blow and take off his head failed and after thee botched strikes his other friend had to step in and finish off the job
The first wound is a cut across the mid section to disembowel yourself.
For those who are dishonorable enough this is the only thing they do. A slow painful death.
For those who have a second. Another man is on standby to deliver a decapitating strike to end the severe pain.
The self-inflicted wound will result in death, just not an instantaneous one. It's excruciatingly painful which is why the Kaishakunin is there...to ensure there's no prolonged suffering. Unfortunately, Morita became distracted by Mishima's Chad-like features and couldn't get the job done.
Baka! Your calloused hands from gooning to your Yamato speciman of a boss has made your hands dummy thick and the katana keeps slipping from your hands!
Suicide by cop is when you aggravate cops with the intent for them to kill you.
Medically Assisted suicide is going to doctors where it's legal and ask them to provide medical assisted suicide
bro there was literal professions with specialized tools to get the job done thru history. this aint an anime where you swing a sword and the head comes off.

He wanted to fail with the coup, that was the point. A beautiful death. He spent more time on the preparation for the suicide "in the event the coup fails" than the "attempt" at the coup.
His death is pretty based bar the assistant failing to botch of his head.
He wanted to leave a mark on japan and let everyone know about overwhelming US influence, he did succeed in a way since okinawa returned to japan and the japan self defence force is actually much more powerful now compared to its prime, although there are definitely a bunch of other factors, but mishima brought huge attention to it.
Also, he clearly never intended to actually successfully stage a coup, he just wanted to die gloriously, and he died at the peak of his career. He died on his own terms
>He wanted to leave a mark on japan and let everyone know about overwhelming US influence
I'm pretty sure everyone already knew about US influence after we nuked them twice and abolished their empire.
Duh but a lot of the japan higher ups were in cahoots with the us military administration at the time. Japan was basically a glorified colony at that point in time
