You have a wand in your hand and thus you can rewrite your country's history in. How would you change it? What would your country look like today?

This is what I'd do:
I would have ensured that the naval construction efforts continued uninterrupted. That way, when the Republic was founded in 1923, we would already have had a developed shipyard infrastructure.
Although I am against coups, I would not have prevented the 1960 Coup. I believe that the overthrow of a controversial government by force, even if only once in history, would have served as a lasting warning to future politicians. Much like the psychological burden imposed upon later Ottoman sultans by the deposition of Osman II. At the same time, I think that the left-wing officers involved in the 1960 Coup and the 1961 Constitution contributed to diversifying Turkish politics and creating, at least temporarily, a politicized society in which the left remained intellectually and socially active. However, I would have prevented the ex\*\*cution of the deposed Prime Minister Menderes and his ministers. I do not think they deserved e\*\*cution, and I believe those e\*\*cutions later became propaganda material for the Turkish right.
On the other hand, I would have ensured the election of Muhsin Batur as president in 1980 and prevented the 1980 Coup altogether.
I would have prevented Stalin from demanding the Turkish Straits, Kars, and Ardahan, and I would also have prevented Turkey from joining NATO. Instead, during the 1960s (Cuban Missile Crisis never happens), I would have ensured that Turkey developed n\*\*lear and maintained around 10–15 n\*kes in its military inventory up to the present day. I would also have prevented Turkey from ever applying for to EU.
Although I have deep respect for Atatürk, I would not have made him live much longer. Many young Turks say that if Atatürk had lived twenty more years, Turkey would have become like Switzerland, but I think what made Atatürk so valuable in the eyes of the Turkish people was precisely the fact that he died relatively early. I do not believe an Ottoman general born in the 1880 generation could have contributed much to the Turkey of the 1950s. At the same time, I have a feeling that if Atatürk had lived longer, he might have begun making irrational decisions in old age. However, I would have ensured that either Atatürk or his sister Makbule Hanım had children, so that Atatürk’s lineage and family would still have living representatives in modern Turkey.
I would have created four or five lakes in Central Anatolia, each around 4,000 square kilometers in size.
In the 1961 Constitution enacted after the 1960 Coup, I would have introduced a 6% electoral threshold, I would also have organized Senate elections according to a first-past-the-post district system.
After 1980, I would have made Turkey adopt an export-oriented growth model and focus on manufacturing in a way similar to South Korea or China, while expanding abroad through its companies. I would have allocated a massive budget for semiconductor and chip production. This would have been far more beneficial than giving government funds to construction companies and building mosques in the Balkans.
I would have ensured that Turkey had game studios capable of producing story-driven, internationally acclaimed games on the level of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and The Last of Us. At least one such studio. I am not talking about market-oriented video games, but truly narrative-driven works with exceptional fiction and storytelling quality. In addition, I would have ensured that Turkey produced at least one or two unforgettable, high-budget films comparable to Snowpiercer (2013) or Se7en — gripping films remembered for their powerful storytelling.
I would have ensured that Erdoğan became a football player.
***RESULT***
By 2026, Turkey is a low-inflation West Asian country with a GDP per capita around $20,000, having achieved both domestic and foreign independence. A secular and democratic republic. Economically stable. Its military does possess sufficient deterrence and remain defense-oriented.
The Republican People’s Party and the Justice Party (1961) would dominate politics as two poles. Governments change, but there is no deep political polarization among the public.
Erdoğan became a footballer, playing for Rizespor and Fenerbahçe, and serving as a striker for the Turkish national team. After retiring in 1989, he would got married to a Carmen Tănase (Romanian actress) and settled in Antalya with her.
After retirement, he had worked for a while as a football manager and television sports commentator.
In the 2010s, he became one of the presenters of the troll football talk show Beyaz Futbol, alongside Rasim Ozan Kütahyalı and Ahmet Çakar.
Journalists have interviewed him and his wife Carmen Tănase Erdoğan in their villa in Antalya; the interview montage include scenes of Erdoğan walking shirtless on the beach with sunglasses. Having bought himself a house on the Greek islands, Erdoğan closely followed the 2019–20 Greek Football League season and shared selfies on his Instagram account hugging Mitsotakis during post match celebrations. His wife’s relatives left comments in Romanian accompanied by heart emojis.
The education system haven't been corrupted by the bureaucracy. Young people study in good schools, and most don't think about leaving the country. Since unemployment and inflation are not be major issues, people are able to earn and spend comfortably. Peace and stability prevail throughout the country, and the public looks toward the future with hope.
