Sad-Background-7447@reddit
Idk 😶😐 I think it's DOA it has to be dirt cheap for me to even look at a streaming device
dustarma@reddit
SoC choice is gonna be so important here to get good streaming latency.
I hope they go with Snapdragon
justgord@reddit
Why not just have a click on plastic game console controller case you slot your smartphone into ?
dustarma@reddit
I would assume this is for people who prefer a larger display.
FollowingFeisty5321@reddit
This will have to be very cheap like sub-$200 to be worth it over using a clip for pairing your phone with a controller or the cheap Android handhelds that'll run Steam Link.
Johnny_Oro@reddit
You could easily make a $100 streaming machine. Cheapest 1200p portable monitor is $74 on Amazon. The SOC could use quad core A53 found in $15 Raspi Zero 2. That SBC has half the RAM capacity and its slower than LPDDR4 too, but the whole thing is sold at a good profit margin for low volume buyers, so the prices would likely end up the same. So does the afromentioned monitor, sold at a margin And a pair of hall effect analog modules is about $10 at amazon, should be way less in high volume straight from the manufacturer. And wifi 6 is pretty old and really cheap at this point, wifi 6 dongles are $10 in the commercial market, the components are way cheaper.
sammothxc@reddit
I’ve tried game streaming on RPi zero 2, and it was so awful
Johnny_Oro@reddit
Yeah it's only A53 with low bandwidth LPDDR2. LPDDR4 was a huge jump in performance, with two 32-bit bus per channel. And these days A55 core CPUs arent much more pricey.
siazdghw@reddit
I agree. This is essentially another Logitech G Cloud device. That sold (poorly) for $300 and now is $200 and it still isn't that popular. Except the G Cloud was cloud gaming focused first and PC streaming as an afterthought, while this seems to be the opposite.
If it was OLED and had quality TMR/HE sensors then yeah maybe like $300 but if it's bargin bin parts then it needs to be $200.
nikolapc@reddit
My Z1e ally is a great streaming and play non demanding games device. Got it for 500 EUR, seems like a steal now. But I do wish I could stream from the switch it's a much lighter device.
XTornado@reddit
Yeah the main point of not doing just that as you did, apart from costs, is that is heavy compared with a devices which focus is streaming only.
nikolapc@reddit
Not heavy at all when you hold it. I just whipped it out today to play some streamed Forza h, it was surprisingly light.
dovahshy15@reddit
Depending on the SoC used, this would be way more expensive than those chinese handhelds like the R36s.
RageMuffin69@reddit
The AYN Odin 2 interested me as a streaming handheld since battery life of pc handhelds like the Rog aren’t where I want them to be, neither is the price. So a moonlight/apollo streaming only handheld would be cool.
DerpSenpai@reddit
it needs to be 150$ at best
EdgiiLord@reddit
So like a PlayStation Portal? Man, I'd rather get one of those controller cases for my phone.
iSnortedAPencilOnce@reddit
I got a Backbone controller and the ribbon cable inside it malfunctioned, so now the left side controls don't work. Beware.
loinmin@reddit
I've been waiting for something like this specifically for Streaming my PC locally, and I don't want a steam deck or the alternative, yes I can sue my phone but it's just too small, I had a Logitech gcloud but it only had wifi 5 and the delay was disgusting, compared to WiFi 6, I just wish this had a better looking dpad lol
UpsetKoalaBear@reddit
The worst part is the technology has improved massively in order to be able to stream locally.
People quite literally play VR games with wireless streaming and they have full 6 degrees of movement and are close to perfectly fine.
Yet, I find it incredibly frustrating that something as basic as streaming a 2D game from my PC to a handheld is something that is borked or half assed in some way.
Yes, Moonlight/Sunshine exists but it’s absurd to me that you have to spend an hour or so configuring it so it works properly and as expected.
JSS-Studios@reddit
If it's actually a decent price (£100 - £200), I might buy one and turn it into some other weird thing, like a simple handheld emulation device.
FollowingFeisty5321@reddit
You can get much better emulation devices for that price -

superkickstart@reddit
From your home pc right? Not from a data center right?
77ilham77@reddit
For now, yes.
JSS-Studios@reddit
That "for now" worries me.
77ilham77@reddit
Whatever the future holds, allegedly you'll be happy.
TheRealSeeThruHead@reddit
Hmmm, why though. Android is better at streaming games with Artemis than Linux is
secretqwerty10@reddit
what's android based on?
ea_man@reddit
Hemm no, Linux got freesync, Android no.
TheRealSeeThruHead@reddit
I and freesync works with game streaming?
ea_man@reddit
It's not much tested used but yes it works, I use it on my laptop while on my Android tablet I don't have it.
Anyway it ofc runs 100% when you are doing native games / retrogames, that alone is a big upgrade.
Various-Welder5544@reddit
This doesn't meet android minimum specs by the looks of it.
reddit_equals_censor@reddit
screw this dystopian pure evil nightmare hardware!
sammothxc@reddit
This is for local streaming, not cloud gaming
NetJnkie@reddit
Huh? This is nice. If I'm home and using my MSI Claw 8AI then I'm streaming from my desktop. Way more power and makes the battery on the handheld last forever. I only play games on the Claw itself when I'm away from home.
From-UoM@reddit
Local streaming using your own hardware exists. And this will Sunshine and Moonlight. The apps litteraly made for local streaming.
Various-Welder5544@reddit
$150 and below and all is forgiven
provocateur133@reddit
I always wanted one of those original Nvidia Shields, the Android based controller with a screen. Playing native android games and streaming from your PC. Glad to see the minimum hardware concept is still alive!
certainlystormy@reddit
oh god 1gb sounds pretty low even for lightweight streaming lol. like a single frame of the screen's data is 5.5% of its ram at that point
Weird_Tower76@reddit
A raw frame with no compression at 8bit color using RGB @ 1920x1200 is roughly 6.912 MB
certainlystormy@reddit
oh shit i did my math wrong lol. point stands tho
BuchMaister@reddit
If you cut out most of the things you don't need, manage your memory well and use lightweight version of software, 1GB can be enough.
certainlystormy@reddit
if its an 8 bit display*, i'm assuming as such because 8 bit is standard
