Longhorn Backyard Amphitheater

My family and I were thinking about going to the string cheese show on Sunday afternoon. We are driving from OKC to potentially spend the weekend in Dallas and go to the show, but are now having second thoughts. On Sunday we saw the high is 92 and sunny and the show is at 4pm. Obviously my wife and I can handle the heat, but we were going to bring our 14 month old and just hang out on the back lawn. We are worried that if we end up going we could just have driven three hours to have a pretty miserable time. So I have some questions for you guys! What is the venue like? Is there shade? Are they strict on things like blankets or small snacks for baby? I did see they have some pretty strict rules for those kind of things on their website, but do they truly enforce them? How busy does it get on the back lawn? Is anyone else going to be bringing their kids? Any tips or tricks would be appreciated. Thank you!

Unfortunately, can't give you much insight since the amphitheater is brand new and has only had a couple warmup shows. I think the availability of shade will depend on your ticket. The renderings seem to have shaded cover in the back GA lawn section, but not in the seats. I would check the FAQ at the bottom of that page for your question about what's allowed in. If your ticket gets you access inside the Ballroom, that is worth a look around at the historic displays. It's a cool and unique historic venue. Here is a local writeup about the amphitheater.
There isn't much around the Longhorn and the adjacent area (The Cedars) is still a mix of new builds and old industrial. 4 Corners Brewery has a good selection of beer and a great burger. Same with Lee Harvey's, which is more a dive environment but with good outside seating. Autonomous Society is a good nanobrewery. Seegar's Deli is a new arrival with good sandwiches.

FYI hearing word that the show is moving indoors.

Thanks for the update! Definitely won’t be bringing the kiddo then.

I went there for a concert in the evening and don’t remember there being any man-made shade. Vaguely recall the trees mentioned but with a 14 month old, I’d be prepared for the worst. Gate security was fairly lax but you never know.
Also, the area around there is under massive construction (and dusty) as of last month.

I have an extra ticket for sale if anyone needs one!

I’d call them and ask. The staff is very friendly and understanding. If you play your cards right you may be able to access the indoor ballroom for some relief from the heat. The only trees are on stage left. There are some grandstands up, but no shade yet (as of last time I was down there). Also some tables with umbrellas but I don’t know if they will be out, or if they are first come first serve.

It feels like Houston in Dallas right now. The humidity has been so high! Right now my phone says it is 92 and the "feels like" is 97.

Thank you! Being from OKC I understand the heat plus humidity which is why I’m questioning it.

I went to the Toadies. Very little shade options. Mostly backyard style, there's a few tables with umbrellas towards the side/middle, but I'm not sure if they were reserved or not. There's bleacher style seats in the farthest section of the backyard, also with no shade. It's a really cool venue and we got lucky with great weather.

Also edited to add - trust the FAQs on what you can bring in. I don't believe you can bring things like blankets.
