I have a DX4200-9 running dual boot - Zorin OS and Commodore OS Vision - right now, and I love it!

Nice PC, but WIndows Vista being considered "retro" hurts.

It's not right, is it? I mean, my last machine was a Phenom x6 (well, an unlocked x4) and I only switched to Ryzen what... 5 years ago? So I don't really get how this can be retro... :/

Old? I'm still using my phenom II x6 1055T & gtx970 daily but not with windows, Linux Mint Cinnamon.
Runs great with 16gb ram and a 256gb sata ssd. I suppose I should get a newer machine some day lol.

First generation Phenom CPUs released late 2007, Vista itself released late 2006/early 2007, so both are nearly 20 years old, DDR2 hasn’t really been used since around 2009…etc
M_A_V_E_N@reddit
Sadly, Vista was released almost 20 years ago. My back hurts.

Nothing says peak 2008 quite like a Gateway sporting a Vista sticker and LabelFlash support.

I adored my phenom 2 x4 black edition. This thing is coming home with me next week

Prepare to be underwhelmed. It's a first gen Phenom, not Phenom 2. First gen was really slow. To make matters worse, they had a TLB bug and the workarounds take a additional performance hit.

Oh yeah, it's the older weaker brother, this computer will never be fast again by any metrics, it's coming home with me for nostalgia

When I bring home old tech like this, I want to bring it back to stock and run exactly what it was supposed to run. Sometimes I try to push it and other times I try to downstep to a previous windows and go for an “over the top” for that generation cpu.

Hey hey I had one of those as a kid and have one and half now :)
With a Phenom 9750, HD4550, 8GB (at 800MHz) and a 256GB SATA SSD it is actually pretty competent on the modern web with Vista and MyPal 74!

I use mine as a dvd and music media center

A prebuild with a first generation Phenom, nice. Those things were not the most popular at the time. The Core 2 dominated everything.
MasterJeebus@reddit
Nice. I have one of those. I upgraded ram to 8GB along with 512GB SSD drive. Upgraded it to Windows 10 22h2 and added GTX 750 gpu.
