How I screwed up my first claim and what I do different now

got rear-ended at a dock last year, low speed, no big deal I thought. Didn't take photos, didn't get the other guy's info written down proper, just exchanged a couple texts. Two weeks later his story changed and I had nothing. Took forever to sort out and my downtime stretched way longer than it should have. Now I keep it simple: photos of everything before I move an inch, names and numbers written down, and I call it in the same day even if it looks minor. The downtime is what actually costs you, not the dent. What's everyone else doing to keep claims from dragging?

A 5 minute accident can turn into a 5 week headache without proof.
