Barn find Cherry BX2

Hello everyone I'm 25 (with PPL license) and I found this airplane on the Facebook marketplace. It's a Cherry BX2, with supposedly a Rotax 912S engine.
The first builder and pilot of this aircraft passed away, and the aircraft no longer flew for about 5 years. Her son asks one of the old friends of her father to sell the aircraft and they request only 5000€ (5800USD). Maybe I can even get it for free.
What do I need to check specifically on this aircraft ? Do you have any experience with one of these ?
I know that the aircraft already did one belly landing but was repaired after that.
What do you think of the current equipment of the aircraft and the actual condition of the aircraft ?
What do I need to check specifically for the Rotax 912S ?
Any piece of information is welcomed.
Have a nice flight !

Too many unknowns. I'd only buy it for parts.

You should pay someone to inspect it…
The fact that you don’t know what look for or ask about should be a red flag to you.
This airplane hasn’t flown in a long time, is in pieces, is rare to my knowledge and might not even have been completed by the previous owner.

I will wask one of my friend (who is a CFI) to come with me to see it. I know how an airplane and an engine work, but maybe there is some specificity for this aircraft that I'm unaware. The friend of the first pilot told me that the airplane have at least 300h. And he even fly in it.

No dude.
A mechanic. One who at least knows about Rotax engines.
CFIs don’t inspect airplanes.

A CFI isn't what you need, you need a mechanic

Oh that thing is good to go. Throw some gas in it and send it! Jk.

That’s not a 912is. It may be a 912uls, but could also be something prior to that. You’ll want to scour the shop it’s in for some logbooks. Has it flown, when last, does the engine have time on it, details about the engine…
Does that thing have the original plans?

Rare homebuilt airplane that has an accident history and has been sitting for years, yikes. Not saying it will never fly again, but the process for getting that airplane from the state it is in currently to an airworthy flying piece of machinery will be both long and expensive.

The airplane flew again after the belly landing. But you're right, it's not the smartest idea, but gosh it's tempting...

If you have to ask reddit, you're already in over your head.
