A Russian drone just hit a residential building in Romania, injuring two. What do you think EU/NATO should do in response?

We already saw the official reactions β expelling a diplomat and preparing the 21st sanctions package. I am a bit skeptical of these slow institutional responses.
No-Narwhal-60@reddit
I demand everyone who wants Article 5 to be triggered to volunteer for the frontlines
PomegranateOk2600@reddit
Sure, and in case your country will be bombarded we will just send some food supplies and helmets, and maybe 200 people to do some logistics. This isnt how it works dude.
erkomap@reddit
"bombarded" is a hard word to use for 1 incident
Not saying it's right or anything, but let's be real here lmao
PomegranateOk2600@reddit
since the beginning of the war 47 drones fell on the Romanian / NATO / EU land, how many more should hit us before I can use the term bombarded?
P-l-Staker@reddit
It's not about numbers. It's about the intention. Armed conflicts often spill into bordering countries just like you're witnessing there.
PomegranateOk2600@reddit
yes and a strong power block protects it's borders and territory, to make sure it's people feel safe. All of you speak with usual western cowardice that everyone has in the west since the end of the great war. A proof that the reason why Eu is a failed project is because nobody inside the union has any kind of balls. We just talk politics and diplomacy when everyone around the Union is talking in a language of power and domination.
Sincerely, EU is a project that proved it deserves to end and fail, and for Europe to fall back into anarchy and total war again.
P-l-Staker@reddit
As I told you in another post, you need to understand what "protecting borders and territory" really means. Because a full-on armed conflict that you're asking for will not do any of that.
Or maybe... just maybe we understand the horrors of real war and do not wish to inflict that shit upon ourselves and our children? It's very easy to beat the drums of war from the comfort of your sofa, bud. You're more than welcome to go fight in Ukraine and get a taste of what war is really like. Or just look up one of the thousands of documentaries that show how it is to be stuck fighting a seemingly endless war for years.
Spoiler alert: you wouldn't like it.
PomegranateOk2600@reddit
I donβt want to fight for Ukraine but for EU
Acrobatic_Quiet_3706@reddit
These fucking Russians are just testing how far they can push it before NATO reacts. They've violated NATO airspace 10 times this year, and now this incident happens. It's only going to get worse. We need to act before someone gets killed.

PomegranateOk2600@reddit
why should we fight in the Ukrainean army when we should fight against Russia as an european army? I'm not fighting in any foreign army
No-Narwhal-60@reddit
And there goes the courage π ey, Ukrainian army is a european one. They defend european values, forgot?
PomegranateOk2600@reddit
i'm speaking about an european army as in European Union army, because russian army is also an european army in case you forgot Russia is also in Europe.
Didudidudadu737@reddit
Just like US was testing with ME, then Venezuela, then Cuba but the aim is EU Greenland?
No-Narwhal-60@reddit
You can do whatever you want. I wont ask anyone else to fight my battles, including you and your countryman
PomegranateOk2600@reddit
I don't know where you from, probably outside EU. But when and EU country is in danger I expect everyone to fight as one with full force together. Not with half measures.
Because if we can't count on each other why we even try to make it work, let's just dissolve EU and everyone does what they want. The next week we will just invite the chinese and russians to build some bases here and push further how much they want.
P-l-Staker@reddit
I don't disagree with you, but you need to understand the concept of a "proportionate response". Romania getting actively invaded a-la-Ukraine is one thing. Rogue drone going off course and striking a Romanian border town by accident is another.
PomegranateOk2600@reddit
yes and the proportionate response now is to close Ukraine's air space and shot down everything that is flying there at least. Because it was proved that Russia keeps launching drones and stuff inside EU / NATO land. It was said by the americans: We will defend every inch of NATO soil, I guess Romanian soil being bombarded doesn't count here.
P-l-Staker@reddit
Why the hell would we intervene in another country's sovereign airspace? What the hell would that even achieve? π
No-Narwhal-60@reddit
I live in a EU country. In case you did not know, EU is a trade union (you probably meant Nato).
PomegranateOk2600@reddit
then you skipped all the updates of the Union since 1992 when the EU was founded. EU is not a trade union.
Mutual defence clause (Article 42.7 TEU) If a Member State is the victim of armed aggression on its territory, the other Member States shall have towards it an obligation of aid and assistance by all the means in their power, in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. This shall not prejudice the specific character of the security and defence policy of certain Member States. Commitments and cooperation in this area shall be consistent with commitments under the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, which, for those States which are members of it, remains the foundation of their collective defence and the forum for its implementation.

So after a Ukrainian missile killed two polish farmers or after a Ukrainian drone crashed nearby a student dormitory in Croatia the EU should have declared war on them? I dont think we should have. Those events were just incidents and especially because of that we as the EU should do everything in our power to resolve the conflict with diplomacy. Everyday it goes on it will only get worse
PomegranateOk2600@reddit
Carl von Clausewitz: "War is a mere continuation of policy by other means"
Then go and ask Croatia and Poland why they didn't activate the article, don't ask me about their decision, i'm talking only about what Romania should do. And it should maybe activate article 5
Acrobatic_Quiet_3706@reddit
fuck this guys, russia's actions must be avenged
Didudidudadu737@reddit
Do you have the same opinion for what Israel and USA are doing? Do you support sanctions and avenge operations?
Acrobatic_Quiet_3706@reddit
No, because invading a sovereign country for territorial gain is a fundamentally different violation of international law than a regional proxy conflict.
Didudidudadu737@reddit
So you never heard of Gaza, West Bank, Golan heights or this is some double standard?
No-Narwhal-60@reddit
Brother, it was most likely the result of EW. What excactly would be the point to crash a Geran into a random apartment building in Romania? Not saying its okay it happened but when a Ukrainian missile killed two Polish farmers we also just took it as what it was - a accident.
PomegranateOk2600@reddit
we are bombarded every month by some russian drone and they continuously enter the EU space with drones, rockets or airplanes. But you only heard about this incident because it nearly killed people. Drones fall in me county each month.
P-l-Staker@reddit
It's very easy to cry for war from the comfort of your sofa, mate. That's the point they're trying to make.
P-l-Staker@reddit

Butterpye@reddit
You realise article 5 doesn't always mean declaration of war, right? The war in Ukraine and Russia is spilling over, telling us we should just accept our fate instead of defending ourselves, is pretty disrespectful. Romania is having a government meltdown, the last thing we need is to be ignored by our allies when it comes to defending our country. There should be a joint effort to make a cheap and safe method of shooting down drones. NATO should come together and help guarantee the safety of all member countries, otherwise why did we even join? What's the point of NATO without Article 5?
No-Narwhal-60@reddit
With that I agree, Nato should support bordering states shooting down drones when they enter their airspace.
Butterpye@reddit
The reason the drone was not shot down is because when it was detected, it was already in a populated area. Our military said it couldn't open fire because it only had lethal munitions available. It's very likely Article 5 isn't invoked, but that doesn't mean we should sleep until the next time it happens. We should start being proactive about these threats.
MrSmileyZ@reddit
It's tad early for Article 5 imo, so I voted for shooting down drones approaching NATO, but I'd much prefer shooting down any military vessel approaching NATO borders... Russia has been terrorising everyone for too long, and if NATO doesn't want to engage in active war, they can use Swiss doctrine of shooting everyone who approaches down (I haven't heard of incidents involving Ukrainian vessels.
Competitive-Read1543@reddit
Im ready
imborahey@reddit
What have you been waiting for the past 4 years? Nothing is stopping you from joining the UA army
Competitive-Read1543@reddit
do they have a front attacking Russia directly?
imborahey@reddit
You don't want to defend Ukraine, you want to attack Russia instead?
And yes, the Ukrainians have made multiple incursions into Russian territory towards Belgorod. All of them were failures in the long run because Ukraine doesn't have the manpower to push anywhere, and that's where you'd come in.
Go, Competitive-Read1543, take your place in the Ukrainian Army and push those evil Ruskies back!!!1!
Competitive-Read1543@reddit
sry, i posted on another comment. but id like to open up a front for ST Petersburg, and then a pincer movement from Ukraine in the south towards Moscow. Russia is completely exhausted as it is, this is the moment to strike and destroy them one and for all
Acrobatic_Quiet_3706@reddit
Is nothing stopping him? If he joins the Ukrainian army, he can't go home because he will be arrested
imborahey@reddit
It's not like he'd come back alive
Teabx@reddit
No no, he meant the reddit frontlines.
Big_Confidence_951@reddit
I agree fully with your demand. People on the internet just write because it's not real but if you really want it then apply for the military now before you can even read article 5 or want war.
Big_Confidence_951@reddit
the people that want war: Please be the first to take up arms and go to the front line. Or if not you then send your brothers, uncles, friends and sisters mothers and aunts.
Mysterious-Put1459@reddit
How do you have internet in Moscow?
Big_Confidence_951@reddit
I'm in the EU right now not Moscow what nonsense
Mysterious-Put1459@reddit
Of course the pro-Putinist lives in the EU
Big_Confidence_951@reddit
I don't even mean that. I mean violence is not good. I don't care about what putin does. I'm a buddhist lol
Mysterious-Put1459@reddit
What kind of a Buddhist is urging people to go and fight on the frontlines instead of urging the aggressor to stop their war on Europe?
Big_Confidence_951@reddit
You missed the meaning of it, my friend. I recall from Jesus Christ saying: "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone". It points toward a responsibility and to show that writing on the internet is not the same as actually enforcing the thing in real life.
PainOk1877@reddit
notice how they always cheer for Putin and Russia but from Germany,Sweden,Austria or France. lol go live in Russia and go worship Putin. You can also make apologies to Kadyrov on livestreams.

CypriotGreek@reddit
I demand that everyone calling for Article 5 or for NATO to start actively shooting down drones near the border volunteer themselves for the front lines first.
It's very easy to demand escalation on the internet when war is not your reality and when you're sitting hundreds or thousands of kilometres away from the consequences. It's a completely different thing when you're the one expected to fight, die, or watch your country deal with the fallout.
Personally, I'd support massively strengthening air defences on NATO's eastern flank. In fact, I'd support upgrading our air defences regardless of this incident. But realistically, the EU and NATO will probably do what they usually do: sanctions, diplomacy, condemnations, and little else.
The people screaming for immediate escalation are usually the same people who never expect to personally pay the price for it.
caesarj12@reddit
I would move to secure Ukraines sky with EU/Nato military equipment manned by EU/Nato operators.
Also where do you draw the line? What happens when the get more bold and send drones into the Baltic countries? As you might have discovered during your early life, you dont deal with a bully by avoiding conflict. If he hits you hit back harder.
