Blast from the past reference just popped into my head..."Face!"

In High School (early 90's) whenever we dissed someone we would look at that person and yell out "Face!" like "In your face!". Sometimes we would even put the palm of our hand up to the dissed person's face for extra juice while saying it. I forgot ALL about that until like 3 minutes ago, lol. Did other people in different places do that as well is what I'm wondering. I'm in Texas.

We definitely had face in the 80s in California.
What about moded?
lumberjackname@reddit
I thought it was “moted” as in demoted.
iill_communication@reddit
We said “Face” but the hand to the face was “Talk to the Hand”
lesh17@reddit
That was one of the three things I can remember we said all the time back then:
1) "Face!"
2) "Psych!"
3) "Thinkfast!" (usually followed by throwing a ball or something at them)
egret_society@reddit
That happens to me all the time.
Not

I just read in the NYT this morning about “mog” and I thought, “Oh, that’s just the new version of moded.” As in, “Ooooh, you just got moded.” As in outdone, told off, or given a proper verbal beatdown or insult amongst your social peers.

Northern New Jersey here and we said it.
Von_Quixote@reddit
Oh, yeeah, I remember that! That’s what the jocks would say when they experienced a sense of dominance.
truce_m3@reddit
We would sometimes toss in a little "Face you out!" to let'em know they REALLY got got.
Ms_Anne-Thrope@reddit
We said it mid 80's in Illinois as well.
Suspicious_Art9118@reddit
Wow, I have never heard of this. Was in college in the Midwest US from 91-95. Must have been a high school thing
MurkyMitzy@reddit
I was in high school 91-95 in Michigan and this wasn't a thing here

I hit the game winning jumper on the dirt court right by the corn field early 80s backwoods of Va. and said …. Face…..deroy didn’t like me calling him out like that so I had to make a quick & decisive, move through the path out of there!
underscore197@reddit

Phenomenal_Kat_@reddit
OMG I did forget about that!!!
hermexhermex@reddit
Face! was huge, and made no sense, how did we all forget.

FriendlyConfines23@reddit
Grew up in the Chicago suburbs- yep. We said that.
Happy-Philosopher188@reddit
I'm just wondering how stuff like that traveled. Yes, we said it, thousands of miles away from you.
Realistic-Potato-474@reddit
HA! I just said this over the weekend at my granddaughter’s volleyball tourney in Long Beach after I saw some girl take a serve right in the kisser. 😂 My daughter looked at me and just shook her head.

"Talk to the hand, cuz' the face don't understand." One of the stupidest things I'd ever heard.
alectos@reddit
Ours was “Talk to the hand cuz my face don’t give a damn”
WaterwingsDavid@reddit
My one friend's teenaged son would say this back in the 90s. I kinda agree that its stupid.
ErikaAnneReads@reddit
Omg northern Ontario we did that. Where did it come from????
SXTY82@reddit
Mid 80s "Face!" hit different. It started with "Facial". You would hear someone behind you shout 'Facial' and next thing you know they were grabbing your head with both hands from behind. Dragging their hands across your face. Their fingers covered in the ink for a ball point pen. That lasted a couple weeks before was shut down. By the end they would just shout "FACE!"
In the end, about half a dozen kids got in school suspension for 3 weeks. They all had to spend the entire day in a class room together where they did the assignments they would have done in class. They were not allowed to talk in that room. No questions. Just do the work you were assigned. There will be new work tomorrow.

itsagasgasgas@reddit
Delaware/Maryland- We would put the palm towards our own face while saying “FACE!”
OUBoyWonder@reddit (OP)
Yes! That move as well, lol!
MissApocalypse2021@reddit
Hah! I haven't heard that, probably since then! I'm in Portland, OR
RevToy@reddit
Yep, it was a thing at my high school in NE Portland in the early 90s
Aegis-Heptapod-9732@reddit
This was super popular at my junior high in Southern California in the late 70s. It was often accompanied by this weird face wiping gesture too. And at some point it got modified to “face-a-roni”.
Terptoy24@reddit
Yup just like that in Maryland Hand to face as Saying FACE!!!
simikoi@reddit
We also said "Face!" But we would put our hand in front of our own face and make a fist like we were grabbing something. As far as I knew it was a reference to the hand gesture the referee makes in football when calling the foul for a facemask grab.
