Should I pick Intel or Ryzen CPU?

I am considering building a PC, and right now I am thinking on what CPU I should get. Right now, my current PC is an Intel CPU... and I've used Intel for my entire life so obviously I'm more familiar with Intel over AMD CPUs. I did some research on this and found that Intel is better at multitasking and video editing/streaming, whereas Ryzen is better at gaming. And although I use my computer to play video games, I don't play a lot of games nowadays... but when I do, it's usually AAA games such as GTA 5, red dead redemption 2, those types of games. But primarily, I use my computer just to browse the internet and doomscroll, watch youtube. So I was thinking of getting an Intel CPU since that's what I am familiar with + it is superior at multitasking compared to Ryzen so if I do play video games, I can surf the internet at the same time. However, I'm not an expert at this PC building stuff... so I decided to get some advice from the experts.

I recently built an AMD 9700x system and compared to my14700k it just has so many minor issues. Stuff like usb connectivity and waking from sleep. I will switch back to Intel for me next build.

Well, for the other reason's you stated, general browsing, yt, doomscolling, it's not going to really make a difference, and is hardly considered multitasking by 2026 standards. What Intel is better value for right now, is multi-threaded workloads like video rendering and code comp. So you're back on the gaming performance perspective, and for that, the X3d ryzen chips excel at.

OP also doesnt play CPU intensive games from what im guessing. OP can save the x3d price diff and put it more on the gpu (if it can push up to another tier ofc) and have better game experience in their AAA titles. I would go ryzen as well since its lower tdp in general.

AMD Ryzen x3d Chip to get peak performance in AAA Games. 9800x3d or 9850x3d will hold for several years to come. Any other than that: price value comparison according to your budget.

I think both brands will be fine for your type of usage, and you absolutely shouldn't spend $300+ on one of the top CPUs. A mid level CPU in the $150-200 range (sometimes even a bit less) will be enough for you.

I dont really agree with perceptions you have. I got an old computer from 2008 with an AMD cpu, is it bad for multi tasking everyday stuff? No. Even when it comes to cpu demanding stuff like chess solvers or poker solvers, itll do the job. Where that system falls behind is actually in RAM. You wouldnt guess it from the name, but cpu doesnt really matter for the everyday user and for a gamer its really a matter cpu-gpu pairing, and high demand of games where there are many instances of ai, sports games, some action games etc. Overall, Intel cpus are known to be a bit better. Overall, AMD cpus are known to a bit better at value/price. Theres also the matter of buying both the cpu and gpu from AMD. Buying from the same company obviously comes with a tiny bit of boost. So i would look at what games you want to play, look for min/recommended hardware and go from there. Also plan for the future

The 3d cache will help your fps in games and ryzens chips themselves are no slouch when it comes to multitasking. I stream on a 7950x3d and it handles everything. Obs, tracking software, game, discord, 39 chrome tabs and desktop assistant. Runs like clockwork.

Ryzen x3d CPUs are vastly superior to all Intels for gaming if you can afford them. And unless you have some ultra high end productivity demands, you can work more than fine on them too.

Intel used to be the best for power efficiency. > it is superior at multitasking The multitasking you are talking about in practice only means heavy, multi core loads that you are probably not doing like video editing, zipping large files, compiling software etc. Stuff like watching a video on one tab, while editing some excel or paying the bills on another doesn't matter.

Today best value Intel 270k Plus. its good for gaming but great for productivity only around $300. what people will complain about here (most are AMD ryzen fans) its "dead" platform. Meaning next CPU you will have to also change motherboard. I don't see this as a issue because if you change CPU in 2-3 years current motherboard features will be also outdated and worth changing. My colleague is game dev working from home has 270k Plus recently built new PC company paid for it. He says no issues at all but he only plays Path of Exile 2 in spare time. Not big gamer. you should pick the best one under your price point, this heavily varies depending on your location as well. find the best AMD model, and find the best Intel model. look up comparison, voila.

For general use like you describe be, Ryzen will be just as good as Intel, but the X3D Ryzen chips would be better at gaming than Intel. I'd go with Ryzen, unless you're getting into things like video editing etc that could actually take advantage of Intel's better multitasking/productivity performance.
