Perhaps an Atmos executive would or 10 should should be in prison for murder..
How much longer are we going to let them get rich while they just kill is.

Sucks you're getting downvoted because I agree. It's pretty amazing to me how anyone will believe the corporation at face value, ESPECIALLY this early on. They will do anything, blame anyone, before they take accountability. That's just how corporations work.
Honestly, you're probably getting downvoted by atmos employees lmao

This is a moronic comment. It’s like blaming gasoline for every car accident. The article clearly states that a contractor at the apartment building hit the gas line. Not an Atmos contractor. With the additional description of the drilling rig and the initial discussions with the City about development, it’s far more likely that developers or owners were doing soil borings and hit a gas line.
Using your logic, we should never build apartment buildings, have developers, or build new buildings. Because they “get rich while they just kill us”.

I’m sorry is it the gas station that is exploding and killing people if not your analogy is terrible.
I hope it’s not you or someone you care about the next time an atmos pipeline explodes and kill people. One will explode again bc we won’t ever make them work on the problem.
woahwoahwoah28@reddit
Bro. If you want to compare this to a gas station blowing up, you should probably include a Zoolander-style gasoline fight before hand.
No one at Atmos caused this to happen. A contractor, who failed to follow any regulation pertaining to the gas line, did.
James-the-Bond-one@reddit
Was that construction crew working for Atmos?
sportsarestressful@reddit
The fire department specified it was not a crew working for atmos
John_Johnson_The_4th@reddit
"Atmos Energy later confirmed to NBCDFW that the fire department informed them at 12:51 p.m. that a construction crew damaged a natural gas pipeline near the building."
It was a construction crew, not Atmos energy, and not an executive, but hey don't let facts get in the way of your witch-hunt 🙄

Someone messed up big time.

Gas lines are regulated by the Texas railroad commission. Atmos maintains and manages all the gas lines and uses 3rd party companies who are unionized and specialized in fixing or relocating. One method for relocating gas lines is called directional drilling, which a truck was seen on site.
TwiztedImage@reddit
Only up to the meter; after that, it's the property owner's responsibility. I'm sure you know that, but others reading may not be aware.
crazy_daug@reddit
I don’t know nothing about gas lines and how they work, but how easy/hard is it to accidentally hit a gas line?
bonbonrocks@reddit
Several years ago a gas line got hit at the end of my street because the Atmos map was incorrect. Sometimes all those failsafes don't work.
StormForeign@reddit
If the gas company is called before digging starts they will come out and mark where the gas lines are with those little yellow flags. One media outlet said today that Atmos had not been called. No idea if that's accurate.
icansmellcolors@reddit
Capitalism strikes again.
You can't waste time calling the gas company when you've got a good chance of hitting nothing and getting the job done quickly.
Snobolski@reddit
They'll have to follow the trail at this point. Did the crew call 811? Did they wait for the lines to be marked before digging? Did the locator mark the lines properly? Were the maps/diagrams that showed the location of this line accurate? If all the above is yes, was the crew digging in the right spot or just sending it to get the job done?

Fuck the mayor. We need accountability and prevention; not prayers. What is the city going to do to prevent tragedies like this from happening again?
Jernbek35@reddit
I’m sorry I didn’t know the mayor was part of the drilling crew.
Bigfartz69420@reddit
it would be nice if the mayor could dispel or confirm the rumor that it was city workers who did it
Jernbek35@reddit
I’m going to assume it was contracted workers for the city but it’ll all come out in the investigation I’m sure.
Aromatic_Location@reddit
I don't disagree with you, but we have to find out what happened first. Then the government can do nothing about it.
liberal_texan@reddit
We can't let your gathering of "facts" get in the way of our ~~witch hunt~~ search for accountability. /s
Snobolski@reddit
I love when people use a tragedy to show the world they don't really understand how city government works. Or the state government for that matter.
Ok_Mousse4534@reddit
What does this comment accomplish?
unknown1310P1@reddit
Not to sound like an ass here but if the construction crew would of been more careful about where they're digging, the gas line wouldn't of been hit. I'm not sure a mayor of a city ran by a council would have anything to do with that. Tbh, the council couldn't of prevented it, better training and a gas company marking lines better might have though.
The_Dotted_Leg@reddit
This isn’t the first explosion like this that killed people in Dallas.
sandefurian@reddit
Or the world. And guess what, people keep dying in car accidents too 🤯
FantasticForce6895@reddit
Yeah, the mayor’s only authority is to convene extra city council meetings. The city manager has the most control in Dallas.

This makes me so sad
