Am I the only one that has an undying love for the M1A?

For some reason I’ve been really invested and absolutely love everything about this firearm, I definitely want to purchase one. Has anyone else had a fixation like this with other firearms?
Lampwick@reddit
I have one. It's fun for plinking, if you're into spending 7.62x51 money on plinking. I sold all the scope mount shit the guy I bought it from had. It just doesn't keep a decent zero at glass ranges, and my eyesight is poor enough that any inaccuracy at iron sight ranges is mostly from me, not the rifle. I have an AR-10 clone I pieced together from an 80% lower and PSA parts that shoots more accurately than my M1A ever has.
Dark-ScorpionX@reddit
I do, but I cant have one since Im an Aussie. I got the next best thing though, a Ruger Gunsite Scout.
false-moderate@reddit
A ruger gss is literally a bolt-action .308 scout style rifle. It shares no similarity to a M1A whatsoever. I’m sorry that dumbass as kid fucked yall so bad back in the day..but it’s not the next best thing. Not even close.
Dark-ScorpionX@reddit
Thanks Poindexter! I'm well aware it doesnt share many similarities or lineage with the M1A, but for me, here in Australia it is the next best thing available. Im glad you Yanks can have your Semi-Autos, but dont knock the trusty Bolt action! I love my GSR, and for some reason its profile reminds me of the Mini-14, which was inspired by the M14.
BaronvonBrick@reddit
Oi what caliba you fuckin drugga
false-moderate@reddit
I own several Ruger rifles and several Savage model 10’s. I love bolt actions guns. I just wouldn’t call a kangaroo a wallaby. See what I’m saying?
Dark-ScorpionX@reddit
You're entitled to your opinion. If you find a gun available in australia, that adheres to our shitty laws, that better fits the title of "next best thing" to an M1A, then let me know cause Im all ears.
Honestly If I could I would love to own a Socom 16 or something.
false-moderate@reddit
Well maybe you should lobby for better gun laws. Wild that one dipshit had to ruin it for all of you and you all just got in line…
Old_Prune_4300@reddit
This gentleman does not represent the us gun community, we do not think the citizenry is to blame for regulations passed by lawmakers.
Dark-ScorpionX@reddit
Thanks. I think he might have just had a bad day or something. I did call him poindexter to be honest. Ultimately I dont see how comparing the Ruger GSR to the M14 (as a bolt action alternative) is offensive or anything, but it's all I can get here in Oz unfortunately.
false-moderate@reddit
Do you live in the states? Why haven’t you just given up all your weapons because of columbine, aurora, Lubys, Virginia tech, parkland, pulse, Harvest, Sandy hook, Uvalde? What are you talking about? Oh that’s right…because of the constitution and massive gun lobbyists that protect the second amendment. People decide the outcomes, and in America many would agree that what Austrialia did was authoritarian and stupid.
BeanFiend96@reddit
Yup, I purchased a gunsite as well would have loved to own an M1A or mini 14 back in the 70s or early 90s 🥲
truckensafely@reddit
I had an M1A & hate it because it didn’t like cheap Russian ammo but I have a refurb M1 from WWII & it fires everything & not forget about the bing when mag is empty 🤣
AmeriGun_Sniper@reddit
Would this be considere an M14? I want a gun like this but built as a Mk 14 EBR.
Da_hoodest_hoodrat@reddit
M1A is civilian version. Stay away from springfield if you are going to make the mistake of buying one
AmeriGun_Sniper@reddit
Mistake as in the platform in general or Springfield’s version?
map2photo@reddit
*clip
Salsalito_Turkey@reddit
Mag is appropriate, too. The Garand has an internal magazine.
123flocko@reddit
Made me laugh. We usually correct people who call it a clip. This time around...well...
Gruntman441@reddit
Check out r/M1A
I have a M1A Scout Squad but I don't use it because ammo for it is expensive. If you want it to have really good accuracy, you need to spend a lot of money on modifications and parts when you could get an AR10 instead and don't have to worry about it. Aftermarket parts are expensive as well.
It's like a vintage sports car: the modern options are probably going to be way better and practical but the vibe of this is much cooler. It depends on how much you're willing to invest in the rifle. I'm not saying don't get it, but at least understand what you're getting yourself into.
THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR@reddit
You might be, I sold mine after 4 years and 100 rounds, it was cool but too mid
vostokvanguard@reddit
Yes, they are just so expensive. Definitely a bucket list gun.
benders234423@reddit
No, my dad had one when I was a kid and I absolutely loved thay thing!
bmk2k@reddit
Love mine. I have the SOCOM 16. Runs just fine with the M80 ball ammo from the 80's
Murky-Substance-7393@reddit
I love mine!
earl_the_recker@reddit
I do. But I bought two ruger Mini's instead
NovelApprehensive697@reddit
Love me an M1A! To bad all I’ve ever heard is they are fussy and prissy 😭😂
TacosNGuns@reddit
Wanted one since I was a kid. I had a Jungle GI Joe who carried a realistic M1A. But as an adult, I’m only interested in accuracy and value. M1A doesn’t hold a candle to my AR10. And my AR10 is more accurate than my 308 hunting bolt gun.
ZookeepergameAny4361@reddit
Got one…. Love it…..
ItsBlyatMan@reddit
I still need a light and cheek riser but you're not alone man.
HaroldTheSloth84@reddit
My M1A is one of my favorite rifles. It’s built on a Fulton Armory receiver and has mostly USGI parts. Mine has a chrome lined barrel, and it has been very reliable. I put in some effort to glass bed the stock, because accuracy wasn’t terrific, but it was still sufficient for hunting purposes. I like how these feel and point like traditional rifles. They feel like an extension of my body when I shoot them.
I also have a Garand and Mini-14. Sure, I have AR’s as well, but they just don’t elicit the same level giggles I get shooting an M1-style action.
shooterLV@reddit
Nope. I traded a scout squad and an Arsenal AK to a a friend that offered a diamond membership to a now defunct company out of Pahrump, NV. If you know the story of how Staccato Vegas came to be, I’ll spare you that unwanted history lesson. Point is, I never took a lesson from said defunct company and the guns that were traded ended up getting stolen.

I'd like an M14, complete with giggle switch.
I have an M1 Garand, which is a joy to shoot.
Impressive-Hold7812@reddit
Hated my M14. Carried it 05-06 in Ramadi. Depot refurbishment of TPE (Theater Provided Equipment, as in stockpile, shit units left behind, or foreign returns). Troublesome in a desert environment rife with moondust grit. Unless you wanted to rezero right after, limited takedown for maintenance.
Ran exclusively M80 Ball and M62 Tracer delinked from the same ammo allocation as the M240B for my vehicle.
I liked the Designated Marksman and his Rifle concept as counter-sniper at the platoon level, but wish they gave us civilian AR10s instead.
The subsequent tour, as the force was transitioning to the first contract run of M4s, we kept the best of the M16A4s and retained them for the DMR role instead.
Reasoning being we weren't getting sniped beyond 500yds in Iraq, and in an urban setting, a lot of our engagements fell between 200-300yds where its some dude with the Tabuk Sniper (longer-barreled 7.62x39mm Zastava M70 localized for the Iraqi Army).
I appreciate the 7.62x51mm cartridge, and its slightly hotter .308WIN counterpart. My RFB today is configured the way I wished my M14 was during that tour as a form of therapy.
MArkansas-254@reddit
Nope! There's a lot of us. out here! 🥰
Forward_Young2874@reddit
Dozens of us!
ClassicalSnow@reddit
Cool factor is a 10. Reliability factor is a 6. Accuracy rating past 100y is a 2. However, you can fix most of the issues with money. Lots and lots of money.
mattv959@reddit
As a range toy they are great fun. I wouldn't use it for anything where reliability is a factor though like hunting.
Alex23323@reddit
Washington State included it in its “Assault Weapon” ban.
Nitro-Cellulose@reddit
You are not alone; I love them too
FZ1_Flanker@reddit
I thought they were neat till I was issued one and realized what piles of crap they are lol.
A_Queer_Owl@reddit
yeah, they have aura but they're probably the worst detachable magazine conversion of the garand action you can get.
Tim-0341-81mm@reddit
I’d like to have one.
false-moderate@reddit
If they aren’t set up correctly(do the research I won’t educate you..it’s easily google-able), they are 3moa guns at best. Highly complicated for the goal they are intending to achieve. Sure they are cool as hell looking. I won’t disagree. But there are several platforms for 2/3rd the cost..if not less..on the American market that will achieve the same result if not better. If you want one for the funnsies then go for it. If you saw a garandthumb video and now think they are the meta you are a dumb idiot. Take this as you will. Downvote me all ya want. These are the facts.
HawkPrestigious2600@reddit
Mine really likes 175 sierra match kings and varget… I don’t think I’ve had anything near a 3 moa group. Perhaps it’s a skill issue?
false-moderate@reddit
I’m not saying you can’t get one that shoots well. Im saying just look up the info and 100s of peoples experiences and affidavits and it’s a notoriously inaccurate rifle unless Modified accordingly and shooting higher end ammunition. This isn’t my opinion…
HawkPrestigious2600@reddit
The internets always right
false-moderate@reddit
I don’t expect you to care but I’ve seen it first hand, have exported and shipped these rifles and have worked in the industry.
EnterpriseATO@reddit
Absolutely love mine and always have. Its traditional rifle body naturally fits me well unlike goofy AR platforms.
RepulsiveUse3372@reddit
At one point i had 4 (i got them free through springfield rewards) i kinda wish i kept one but i hardly shot them
