Seniors Headlines

Do you ever see an article or commercial that is related to the senior citizen demographic, and still not think that it applies to you yet?
In my mind, I’m still 20- or 30- something, but as a 1966 release I’m turning 60 in a couple of months.
Dang it, maybe the commercial *is* relevant to me.

GenX has had the boomers ahead of us as the old and dusty, entitled, greedy, hoarders of resources to think of as seniors. But since those a-holes are starting to drop off we step into the roles of the elders.
But we can still do so with our characteristic sarcasm, humour and fuckit attitude.

I don’t quite qualify as a senior citizen yet, but that damned AARP has been hounding me since I turned 45. Piss off AARP, let me have what little bit of time is left before I’m forced to join your cult!
Possible_Shoulder_50@reddit
Always. Those AARP, Medicare Part D, life insurance. I always think that, I’ve seen these same commercials for decades and think to myself “surely the people they’re targeting in these commercials are dead”. Then I realize I’M that demographic now. Then cry myself to sleep 😂😂😂

Happy fire horse birthday! I’m constantly taking note of ‘this is me - the old version’. I think about my eventual death constantly, with awe and curiosity (and a sprinkle of terror). Inside I feel the same so it’s more like I’m marveling at the weirdness of it all.
TreasonalDepression@reddit
It’s weird being the same age as old people.
Historical_Bath_9854@reddit
Right!?! My dad likes to remind me that I am also old🤬

Yes I watch the ME TV Channel with older shows and all the commercials are for senior citizens and I realize that I'm not that far off from being a senior citizen.
Mountain_Exchange768@reddit
Yes.
But then in reality I just cut our phone bill by $40 a month (two lines) by getting us a senior discount.
Cold_Chemistry_1579@reddit
I took my daughter to a water park. The cashier asked me if I wanted a “senior” ticket a kid’s ticket. For a split second I was going to be pissed, then I saw it was a $5 discount so eff it I will take the senior ticket (the ticket was for 55+, so not too offended) My AARP auto insurance rate is awesome too. Mature, not old

I'm also a 1966 release. I totally don't see myself as anywhere near elderly I'm still in decent shape and strong. But adjusting to how other ppl see me is ...unsettling... I don't know how I got here to old lady land. I hate here, but the alternative
Fudloe@reddit
The saying goes "You're only as old as you feel", so you're 20. Period.
Besides, we're Gen-X! When did we evey buy into anything because of an ad campaign?
Fuck 'em. Go be 20!
worstpartyever@reddit
You’re 20 until your knees and back remind you that you’re not.
Fudloe@reddit
I was constantly hurt when I was 20, between the drinking, crappy roofing job, skating and wrecking my mountain bike. (All of which I still do... minus the drinking and roofing, of course).
Nah, you're 20 til you surrender! NEVER SURRENDER!

As long as I’m working and still taking care of my sons I don’t consider myself a senior citizen. It’s more of a lifestyle than an age in my opinion.
newwriter365@reddit
I’m vintage ‘65, and don’t think of myself as a senior citizen. The ticket booth staff at the movie theater disagree.
Headlines about senior citizens don’t resonate with me as I’m still working and also expecting to be screwed by social security “running out of money” just as I retire, and most articles about senior citizens tend to be about retirees.
Ray_The_Engineer@reddit
Yep, also a '66 model. Every time I look in the mirror, it shocks me that I'm not 32 years old or whatever. I guess previous generations went through the same thing, but I don't really remember my parents and grandparents talking about it.
BogusNom@reddit
Uhuh 66 model. Apparently I can get a "seniors" card in August. I love a discount but bl00dy hell. I don't have to like it. 😃
Emotional_Mess261@reddit
My trigger is how far back I have to scroll to get to 1968 Feels like it should still be 2
Dead-Lazlo@reddit
Went to a new credit union to get some rate info the other day. Talk to a rep, go over the details, and then he says "as a senior, you're also eligible for..."
wat
Oh, I guess I am. Was so rattled I didn't even hear the details. 😛
blackcain@reddit
The first time someone told me I was eligible for senior citizen discount I was taken aback
Secret_Agent_Blues@reddit
Ha! I’m not going down so easy either @op!
StatisticianFine9368@reddit
Most definitely
SaltyBlackBroad@reddit
I turned 60 last year. I'm not in denial, but senior citizens discounts don't even cross my mind.
kost1035@reddit
I have an AARP card .... I want my discount dammit
