Bro thinks honor wa s a thing like ever. As soon as a slightly dishonorable way wa sinvented which you could use to kill your enemies it was used. Warfare is about making the enemy dead before you are. Those who were "honorable" found an early grave.
MrBingly@reddit
Just one of many examples: Samurai literally faced off in one on one duels. Their battlefields were just a bunch of duels happening at the same time.
Honor has absolutely existed in warfare. It definitely isn't all the time, but it is common throughout history.
wasted-degrees@reddit
The only unfair fight is the one you lose.
JustChillin3456@reddit
“We soon tire of living only for ourselves. It necessarily follows that we also need to die for something. That something used to be called a "noble cause." To die for a noble cause was thought the most glorious, heroic, or honorable way to die. But there are no noble causes today.”
HingleMcCringle_@reddit
I dont believe that. I belive there are still evils in the world that you could die standing against. Ask Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
They didnt die a warrior's death per se, but they were honorable people until their end, in my eyes. They were fighting for a noble cause.
JustChillin3456@reddit
They died to protect random foreigners who don’t give af about them ? Foreigners who devalue the wages of myself and friends / family ?
Iron-Fist@reddit
People used to basically never be exposed to top 1% charisma combined with top 1% rhetorical techniques. This meant that anyone with enough personality to get 500k followers on tic tok in the year 850 ad could walk into a village or town and basically convince every single person there to follow their world view.
All of the "noble causes" were just people getting absolutely taken by charisma and rhetoric because they had zero defence against it. One minute you'd be farming in France the next you'd be rage baited into invading Syria (which you did not know existed and still don't know anything about).
Similar thing happened when ex-Soviet babushkas got taken for their shares in state companies in the 90s; they had no immunization to marketing or sales techniques.

Ah, yes. The famously heterosexual Yukio Mishima
Ma_Bowls@reddit
That's almost as good as the time Mishima gave a speech trying to convince some soldiers to overthrow the government and got heckled so badly he committed seppuku.
WinstonDaPuggy98@reddit
Yukio Mishima is my favorite queer person of color because if I referred to him as that he’d probably try to fucking murder me

This is the type of sublime ragebait I wish could be mailed directly to whatever afterlife he’s in

There are plenty of noble causes. There aren’t any noble states and there probably never was. Yukoto Mushrooma is a fraud
JustChillin3456@reddit
No noble state ? Bro a state doenst have to be noble for you to die to protect your loved ones
hairyballsinmybutt@reddit
What a sanctimonious tit.

Were you meant to achieve something here?

analthunderbird@reddit
The “noble causes” in the past aren’t that much different from what people fight for today, they’re just glorified/romanticized as they become history.
ElectroMagnetsYo@reddit
How convenient for him
“Yeah bro I’d totally die for what’s right, but everyone is fake and gay now anyway so might as well live haha lucky me”
Will512@reddit
I mean he died in a coup to reinstate the emperor which had a 0% chance of success and he almost certainly knew it. So he did put his money where his mouth is at the end of the day.

War is Le epic and based! Unless it’s my home getting invaded and destroyed and friends and family being raped, killed or enslaved
WarlordHelmsman@reddit
There are definitely people that enjoyed warfare at all points of human history
TheMysticGraveLord@reddit
Ernst Junger enjoyed fightin in ww1.
ojqANDodbZ1Or1CEX5sf@reddit
And most of them were the nobles who weren't at risk as much as the common folk

It's called being a dick and a psychopath
Electrical-Help5512@reddit
People crave a purpose, people crave community and status. The military, much like cults, offers all this. Depending on what you're asked to do I don't think it makes you a psycho to enjoy these things. It's deeply engrained in us.
Stlr_Mn@reddit
All those things are true for the military, not for being in the military during war. People who enjoy being deployed in a combat zone are regarded as what they are, crazy by rank and file boots.
mr_D4RK@reddit
Is your think about it, every person in the contract military regardless of country is someone who willingly joined it, fully realising that he will be killing other people at some point. The only reasoning for that would be a pointed finger with the notion "they bad, kill". That order coming from, possibly, the most rich and corrupt people in the country soldier is from.
Obviously, all that is sweetened by copious amounts of propaganda, so it doesn't look that bad, but the only thing that separates average tin soldier from average inmate doing time for murder is the uniform.
Darkblue57@reddit
Fair to say that probably most people in the military haven’t actually killed anyone directly.
Silver-Dream99@reddit
Yes, rapists

Bread thinks of hungry men or whatever
ur_moms_boy-toy@reddit
If you want a "warrior society", private duels are better for that than war. There's nothing honourable in torching a village, dropping a nuke on a city, raping innocent women, or even just shooting a clueless soldier with a rifle from a great distance. Fighting an equal, one on one, that's honourable. And it has to be with melee weapons only. Anything that can kill from a distance is gay.
Messmer-Impaler-148@reddit
Anon has never felt the thrill of murdering other human being in cold blood with no remorse
Cabra42@reddit
Yeah? Got a story you wanna share there, bud?
yourstruly912@reddit
War can be quite enjoyable if you have top armor, a huge warhorse and several servants carrying your stuff. Otherwise...
rooshavik@reddit
In modern wars this is true and it will always be true till we hit a great reset
kardfogK@reddit
All war is pointless but I would never ever say that about ukraine, only because people might think I support russia
Icy_Many3242@reddit
"Nobody has ever gained lands from war." Wait till you read about the Crusades and its consequences 1,000 years later.

You gotta train up that literacy son. He's saying Redditors thinks this and he himself considers that to be wrong.

"Frankly, I had enjoyed the war." - Adrian Carton de Wiart
Shoddy-Warning4838@reddit
It's pretty easy strawman when you take it to the extreme, but obviously most people don't enjoy war, for example. Honor and warrior culture didn't apply to the peasants recruited to go with a pitchfork and die, it applied only to nobles that had proper armor, training and weapons who rarely got seriously injured and were playing a medieval version of the purge.
JCampenish@reddit
Anon has no need to concern himself with being drafted as he has evolved away all vestigial muscle tone beyond that which is needed to transport himself from his gaming chair to the kitchen, and occasional, but increasingly optional, trips to the bathroom.
alecbz@reddit
It makes no difference what men think of war. War endures. As well ask men what they think of stone. War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner. That is the way it was and will be. That way and not some other way.
leastemployableman@reddit
Anons are born for games. Nothing else. Every 4-channer knows that gaming is nobler than a job . He knows too that the worth or merit of a game is not inherent in the game itself, but rather the gamer girls that which are in his lobby

Maybe there was glory in the Middle Ages, when mercenaries made their living fighting wars, but when guns and conscription appeared, the idea that war is "honorable" and "heroic" shattered into a propaganda slogan.
Dragon-Porn-Expert@reddit

“War is glorious and a cornerstone of civilization and provides us with all of the paragons of our culture.”
Same dude:
“Oh I could never join the military because I’d beat the shit out of the drill sergeant the first time he got in my face.”
Aforementioned dude weighs 300lbs, still lives with his mom, and has never seen a woman naked in person.
