VIMS

Hello! Before I ask my question, I want to state a disclaimer: I am NOT asking if this college is for me or if I'm should become a Marine Biologist!
I am asking if anybody has any advice on the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) is a good college, and if it is worth my time?
I am 23 and am NOT made of money. If there are other Marine Science/Biology programs that will give me better results, then I'd like to know before even applying and wasting my time/money. I am mainly considering VIMS because it is the closest and has very interesting programs. (For context on how close it is, I am going to be living in Western Kentucky when I would be considering starting classes [which would be next year]).

The curator of fishes at, let’s say, a big Oceanography Institution used to organise the Society for Ichthyology and herpetology meetings.
He told me that they had a VIMS or no-VIMS option on the accommodation choices, because the VIMS guys were so wild! So people could choose whether they were up for that.
That’s my helpful info.

VIMS isn't a college, VIMS is a graduate school run by the College of William and Mary. It's well funded and has a ton of cool opportunities, i found it to be an excellent campus that had a great community. However, it's primarily a graduate program that offers an undergraduate program, not a full blown college in of itself. You'll still have to take classes in williamsburg at main campus. If you have a bachelor's degree and are interested in a specific lab at VIMS that's a different issue and you should contact PIs directly. But if you're looking for an undergraduate degree in marine science, you need to look at their parent university, the College of William and Mary. W&M is a highly ranked university and a very good school, but it's not cheap out of state.
So, a few clear questions:
1) What kind of marine science do you want to do?
2) What kind of educational background do you have?
3) What kind of degree do you want and what kind of job are you interested in pursuing?
