I somehow made an exact replica of the butter noodles they offer for picky children at restaurants

It's not bad I just wasn't expecting to grapple with Cheesecake Factory flashbacks tonight

TIL I'm the only person who struggles with achieving al dente
Hello_Gorgeous1985@reddit
You know that they put the cook time on the bag of noodles, right?
SFDessert@reddit
Maybe it's because I live in a town that's 7000+ ft in elevation, but those instructions always seem wrong to me. I always gotta add a few minutes to whatever they recommend.
It kinda seems like since I've moved here most of the recommended cooking time on things are slightly off.
Ionovarcis@reddit
No maybe, the elevation is 100% it, cooking is different at higher altitudes - I think it’s something about the air density?
SFDessert@reddit
I had heard it affects baking a lot, but I don't bake so I didn't think much of it. It definitely seems to affect everything from my experience.
DemonicBoi13@reddit
Exact opposite, it affects boiling, baking should be mostly unaffected. Come on now, boiling point being affected by altitude is taught in school.
Rokronroff@reddit
Air pressure. Water boils at a lower temperature than at sea level.
MooPig48@reddit
I always hover and sample repeatedly once it starts getting somewhat close to the recommended time. Usually 2 minutes out or so. That leaves no room for error
mothzilla@reddit
LPT: knock a minute off the cook time on the packet.
CallMeVe@reddit
Your pfp is accurate

Sample tastes before removing from the heat!
Pristine_Egg3831@reddit
I always grab one out, run in under cold water so I don't burn my mouth, then bite.
ChefArtorias@reddit
I throw a noodle on a plate and wait like five seconds. Texture could change if you cool it too much, but you're probably not doing that.
MooPig48@reddit
I just grab it on a fork and blow
Pristine_Egg3831@reddit
Hnn maybe I am. I just want to know that it's not still chewy, is my test
ItsOKtoFuckingSwear@reddit
The boxes cooking times are always quite accurate. You should taste your pasta about two minutes before the suggested cook time and then check again when your timer goes off. Also make sure it’s at a boil and not a simmer.
Comfortable-Tea-5259@reddit
Okay daddy
leaf-green-spring@reddit (OP)
Paternity test came back negative, sorry
Past-Statement8663@reddit
Maury said so!! 💀
trevor11004@reddit
Looks terribly bland, I’ve never understood how people can be happy eating this sort of thing. I’d rather use my limited calories for the day on something that tastes good
YirDaSellsAvon@reddit
That's penne pasta. Not "noodles".
Why can Americans not tell the difference between pasta and noodles?
And no, they are NOT the same thing. They are NOT interchangeable terms
JonasHalle@reddit
They are neither indeed. Noodle is an umbrella term that includes everything from rice noodles to pasta.
dont_mind_me_987@reddit
Noodle is not an umberella term, wtf u talking about? Noodle is asian, while pasta is italian
NessTheGamer@reddit
It’s kinda hilarious how both the Tomato and Pasta are both cultural imports to Italy
tobotic@reddit
The idea that Marco Polo brought noodles to Italy is hilariously wrong given that pasta had been eaten in Italy for more than a thousand years before he was even born. Pasta is Italian; they didn't import it.
Basil on the other hand.
NotoldyetMaggot@reddit
Spaghetti noodles beg your finest pardon, they identify as noodles. Also as pasta, because the two intermix.
JonasHalle@reddit
I'm talking about reality.

djbow@reddit
I see Penne pasta, where are the noodles?
Future_Cake@reddit
In America, noodles and pasta are (very close to) synonyms.
One might be preferred over the other for certain use-cases, but neither is ever incorrect for foods.
tobotic@reddit
You mean bathing bucatini?
Future_Cake@reddit
Well...maybe the blurring only goes in one direction on the Italian-to-Asian boiled dried grain paste spectrum?
These are all fine amd common usages:
buttered noodles = buttered pasta
elbow noodles = elbow pasta = elbow macaroni
pesto noodles = pesto pasta
noodles with spaghetti sauce = pasta with spaghetti sauce
...BUT, when it comes to say a Thai or Chinese dish...you typically wouldn't hear anyone talking about "stir-fried pasta". Only "stir-fried noodles".
So maybe all pasta is noodles, but not all noodles are pasta!
In any case, the OP was using perfectly good AmEng terminology here :D
SlipperyGibbet@reddit
But I'm never calling them pool noodles ever again
Future_Cake@reddit
Hehe :)
joelham01@reddit
Load that up with some parm and oh boy
tobotic@reddit
That's essentially all Alfredo is.
sumayawshimenetka1@reddit
What's your take on grated parmesan cheese?
leaf-green-spring@reddit (OP)
I always saw it more as a type of dust than food
sumayawshimenetka1@reddit
Noted. Butter is more than enough anyway.

Butter noodles of the Holy Roman Empire variety
dij123@reddit
That genuinely looks unbelievable
leaf-green-spring@reddit (OP)
Yay
KoreKhthonia@reddit
Did you do anything different or special that made the noodles better or more restaurant-quality? Sounds like you rinsed them partway thru cooking(?), which would remove some starches, and subbed a margarine-based spreadable product for butter per se.
Asking bc I run in ND circles and buttered plain noodles is a very common safe food, I'd love to pass it on to anyone who could use the recipe. (If there is one. Sometimes something turns out slightly better than usual, and you have no idea why TF that could be.)
UncleDuude@reddit
I still like this sometimes, especially after a long day cooking for other people
Octo_Pasta@reddit
Nice pasta
ItsOKtoFuckingSwear@reddit
Yea I know that recipe is a tough one. With all two ingredients in it.

You have to leave a little pasta water in the pan and add cold butter and stir like a mad man to emulsify it!
Capt_Hawkeye_Pierce@reddit
Real answer is a lil bit of pasta water.
Calamityranny@reddit
It looks so smooth and so clean, so appetizing goddd I want noodles

A go to when feeding other peoples kids. Everybody can get down with a bowl of buttered noodles. Extra fun when you use lasagna noodles.
