What do you think about putting trackers in your expensive guns?

I’m thinking about putting gps trackers inside my more expensive rifles, either inside the pistol grip or possibly the battery tube of a sopmod stock.
Has anyone done this before? Do you have any recommendations?

Most crimes aren’t random, they’re usually committed by people who knew the victim….set better boundaries and tighten the loop.

Most guns are stolen completely randomly out of vehicles or somewhat targeted residential house or storage unit burglaries. You are correct that many of the residential burgs are by someone with prior knowledge of the victim’s residence; IE junky son/nephew or their associates, roofers/painters/cleaning person, etc.

I have a p320 fcu that's in a flux raider. I put an airtag on it so I know if it becomes self aware and is trying to murder me

GPS tag? You paying $15/mo for service and running an antenna out of it? No? Then it's some half-assed AirTag shenanigans.
Most PDs won't even try to get a warrant based off AirTag location data because it's so inconsistent. So that's worthless "feel good" behavior. For your kid's bicycle that you're worried about another kid taking, fine. You can go retrieve it from that little shit when they leave it in the yard. For a stolen gun that's going to be inside a structure? That's not exactly a self-help activity you can do cleanly.

I've got one in the polymer stock of a $99 break-action 12ga I keep in the truck. I'll giggle like a schoolgirl should a crook catch a federal felony over that POS.

If your firearm is stolen, you’ve fucked up. Keep it secret, keep it safe.
If the SHTF and the world as we know it has ended, it would be cool to use the AirTag to kill the thief and use them as a loot drop (or more likely get killed trying), but how long are Apple’s servers going to keep running after the Russo-Sino invasion?
Also, I know if I stole a long gun, first thing I’d do is tear through it to look for any hidden goodies, and that AirTag would end up in a random car’s trunk real quick 🤷🏻♂️

I keep a tag in my NVG/thermal case, and in my most used rifle bag.
I can set the tags to notify if they move, something I do when I have to leave them in a hotel room.
But for my own privacy, I don't want the rifle or NVG to be tracked in the event I forget to remove them.
Plus, I typically don't travel with more than one or two rifles, so a single tracker for the rifle bag is enough.

Just me personally, but I keep my expensive guns locked up in an expensive safe bolted into a concrete floor.
