Linux Kernel 7.0 Brings Out-of-the-Box Support of Intel ARC B50 to Linux Mint

As someone may have tried, it was pretty difficult to deal with Intel B50 on Linux Mint. I read that Ubuntu and other distros had better support, but today I updated Linux Mint 22.3 to Kernel 7.0 and BOOM! - everything works :)
FYI, on Linux, Intel drivers are usually not installed separately (as with NVIDIA), but are included in the Kernel.

linux users used to build kernels for fun, now a bunch of you can't even install a kernel and tell people to use shit distros

Is that really so bad though? The goal should be to bring linux to the mainstream, and that does mean less people proportionally will be building the kernel for fun.

Its not a problem of the users, but the kernel is a hassle to build and install, unlike the BSDs.

If you want a bleeding edge gpu support you should probably run something modern with fast paced updates - arch or based on arch

Why not good old Debian?

I tried going debian on my most recent computer, but all the software was so out of date I couldn't do it. I think debian is fine for something like a general server, or a laptop you won't play any games on, but I can't justify it for a gaming computer or AI server.

FYI, on Linux, all drives are usually not installed separately and included in the Kernel, NVIDIA is the strange case here, causing enough troubles since many years: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/vbvxiv/10_years_ago_today_linus_torvalds_to_nvidia_fu_you/
But with a good distro even NVIDIA is working well.

You could try an up to date distro, CachyOS is great and optimized for gaming / performance out of the box.
ForsookComparison@reddit
Can't you also add a future kernel from Debian backports?
10F1@reddit
But then you're stuck with old packages anyway.
