Is bear spray less effective against humans than pepper spray?

Seems like the large fog is great for scaring off a bear, but is it too diluted compared to handheld pepper spray on human eyes/nose?
Seems like people recover pretty quickly when hit with bear spray in videos of incidents, yet they're in obvious distress when hit with pepper spray directly?

Yes and no. Some bear sprays actually have less capsicum than self defense sprays because, obviously, bears can't go get some treatment after being sprayed. Also bears aren't likely to want to come at you if you spray them because they're not rapists of crazy exs.
The benefit of bear spray is always distance. It's more effective at making distance. The formula also has to be Canada and other countries friendly.
So short answer it's brand dependent. But you can get regular pepper spray with higher concentrations than bear spray.
Also pepper sprays are just one type. CS and other gases are sometimes more effective on some people.

Actually the main reason bear spray can be weaker than regular pepper spray is because bears sense of smell is thousands of times more sensitive than people's sense of smell. Its doesn't actually take a potent solution to deter them.

I mean, if there happened to be a rapist of my crazy ex, i don't think i'd really care either way.
Alternative_Low9003@reddit
I'm sorry that happened to your crazy ex.
Logicaluser19@reddit
I read that bear spray was less potent than pepper spray because bears are more sensitive to it. I don't know if its true though.
degoba@reddit
Not true.
Logicaluser19@reddit
Ok, I just searched and read about 10 different articles that state that bear spray is chemically weaker than pepper spray. Can you you tell me why its not true?
"Bear spray is similar to pepper spray but is not the same thing. Though they both contain the same active ingredient — oleoresin capsicum, bear spray contains a much lower concentration.
A typical pepper spray used for self defense will have an oleoresin capsicum (OC) concentration of about 10% or higher. A typical bear spray has a oleoresin concentration of about 1 – 2 %."

Give him the smack down lol. Seeing it more and more people don’t have the slightest clue what they’re talking about. Even funnier that I learn this because you see a lot of people having bear spray like it’s some super weapon but 1/100 customers actually intend to use it against bears vs personal defense. The PD version turns out to be better? That’s funny.

I'm calling you a tard for this comment specifically. "gIvE hIm tHe smAcKdOwN" 🤤 as this person is so obviously clueless of what they're talking about lmao and at the same time you're talking about how people don't have the slightest clue about what they're talking about 🤣 get a grip. Look in the mirror. You look super dumb and smug here. Bad combination. Y'all need to learn that you can't just read an article (or 10 even, apparently) and think you know what you're talking about. There is so much bullshit online that you need media literacy and you need to have the ability and the desire to determine what sources are reputable. It's sad that I need to explain this. And even more sad that I'm explaining this to someone who is being so smug and criticizing others for not knowing what they're talking about.

Do people still recommend "wasp spray"?
The original "self defense expert" that people reference for that was a high school gym teacher that was recommending female students carry wasp spray, and got interviewed on a local TV new channel...then people started citing him as an expert.

I suppose doing your own research is worthless when you don't have the sense to determine what sources are reputable or to be trusted. Nice try though.
Torch99999@reddit
Which has nothing to do with wasp spray.
Cheap_Blacksmith66@reddit
Nothings more reputable than a website selling their own personal defense products providing comment on a product with information they pulled straight out of their own ass.
Cheap_Blacksmith66@reddit
I’m not an expert, but gotta imagine that ends in permanent blinding or death?
Alternative_Low9003@reddit
Lmao you guys are genuinely tarded.

Way to smell your own farts on a 5 year old post 2 seconds into googling, you’ve several sources contradicting your link. Seems you fell for the ole salesman’s embellishment. You linked a company that’s selling a product that are a. Pulling things out of their ass or b. Selling a product outside of regulatory bounds. While they may sell something more concentrated, as outline in the provided links, it’s either a lie or illegal according to the epa just as the person I was responding to stated. The main difference in bear mace is distance and dispersal cloud vs concentration. The human will be a more concentrated amount effective at a shorter distance and the bear mace produces a larger cloud at a longer distance but weaker active ingredient. ✌️
Comments with cited work. The EPA regulates bear spray by act of congress.

The fact that you got down voted and ridiculed for being right is a perfect example of reddit as a whole 😂
Alternative_Low9003@reddit
It's crazy how common this belief is. Y'all just hear shit and spread it as if it's true lmao bear mace is definitely not less concentrated in general. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard and it's crazy that you wouldn't hear that and think "does this actually make sense?" And do more research before spreading misinformation online.
Aggravating_Cap_4045@reddit
No bear spray is a lot worse.
Alternative_Low9003@reddit
Somebody got down voted to like negative 7 for saying this 😂 this is reddit. It's crazy that people take this shit seriously. All the tards get up voted because the tards want the tards to be right so they feel less tarded.
