43/50 unrelenting positivity for Maryland.

This is our newest unrelenting positivity post.
The state in question is the great state of Maryland.
To all our foreign friends give a shout ask questions send praise. To our Americans do the same.
Ask questions, share stories, make jokes. Just remember not to be a jerk.
Recall the famous phrase my grandma invented “if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything that isn’t redemptively funny.”
Stay tuned for 44/50 after this one. Only a few more.
The states are in random order based on my whim at the moment. Today’s whim is Catholicism and The Wire.

These dudes crack me up every time I see this, especially dude #2 with the confident nod.
Gallahadion@reddit
First guy's moment of self-awareness is one of the funniest parts of this video.
kobayashi_maru_fail@reddit
And when he looks at confident nodding dude like “WTF? No! Did you not just share my revelation? What’s wrong with you?!”
glowybutterfly@reddit
I think about this frequently.

Old Bay is S tier seasoning mix. It's just so damn good, so I understand why Marylanders are so staunchly loyal about it. Crab cakes, Natty Boh, and a visit to Camden Yards is a great day in my book.

They were the first state to establish an official state sport, and it's... jousting. And I just really enjoy that that's a thing.

WHOOOO MARYLAND
GandalfTheGrey46@reddit
The British pronounce it “Marry Land” which always cracks me up.
Morgenacht@reddit
Smoothest roads in the union.
Excellent, drool worthy crab…
Terrapins. (Hey Testudo!)
DonAmechesBonerToe@reddit
Cal Ripken running around Camden Yards is an indelible memory
BrainFartTheFirst@reddit
They have a really cool flag and great crab cakes!
DustyScharole@reddit
I have never lived in a state where they were more proud of their flag. Texas comes close, but I've seen dudes at the gym wearing MD flag socks, shorts, and hoodies with a matching water bottle and phone case.

MARYLAND REPRESENT!!

There's lots of gorgeous scenery. One of my faves was section B of the Billy Goat Trail off the C & O Canal, which itself has a lot of beautiful parts & tons of history. Also kayaking in Jug Bay with very reasonably priced rentals available.
The "Washington" Folk Festival is actually held in Maryland's Glen Echo Park. I saw dozens of awesome acts there over the years.
Crab omolettes can be heavenly, if made with fresh meat. Some places use the previous day's unsold crab cakes, which isn't as good.

Small state that has beaches, great cities, rolling hills, harbors, and gorgeous mountains.
Antietam battlefield is a hidden gem. Out west you’ll find some great skiing, hiking, and hunting. Central Maryland is business central with great jobs. Want quaint fishing towns and some of the best seafood you can find? Hug the bay. Ocean vacation and deep sea fishing? Cross the Bay Bridge.

Monocacy Battleground is also a lovely walk & has a very interesting visitor's center. It's not one of the best known battles, since it was over pretty fast & the Union lost. But it delayed the progress of the CSA troops, enough for the defenses around DC to be reinforced.

Check out “the horse you came in on” in Charm city which is one of the oldest bars if not the oldest in the US. Poe even frequented it.

I'm so glad to hear it's still open! Last time i was in Fell's Point, I saw a lot of my favorite pubs had closed.
mydogisatortoise@reddit
They have crabs
claudiatiedemann@reddit
I went to school in Ellicott City, MD, which has a really picturesque historic downtown and is home to the oldest surviving train station in the U.S. Maryland also has some great beaches!

The flag should be top 5 in any list. The commitment to the Old Bay bit is really something.
And if you've ever got the opportunity visit the Baltimore Basilica, it's truly a stunning, beautiful building, whether you're Catholic or not. Lucked my way into a private tour, it was a highlight of the trip.
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
The basilica is amazing.

Great legal protections for LGBT+ citizens! Very diverse in most parts of the state - in people and geography. So green. If you don't like the weather, wait a day, you'll get something new.

The best thing about Maryland is that it's where I live, along with all of my favorite people. Plus all my stuff is there.

Annapolis is such a frustratingly pretty downtown area it actually makes me kind of mad

Maryland has one of the most badass looking flags in the country.
Crab with Old Bay seasoning is amazing, top-tier food.

Back when I was a student at UMD I was visiting a friend who lived in DC on Lamont St NW. A bunch of us were heading there in different cars to hang out. Parking was tough and I ended up finding a spot on Warder St NW. I called my friend who was driving another car and arriving slightly after me. I informed him that Lamont was packed and to try Warder for parking.
He arrived much later and said "I couldn't find a street called Water St."

The Baltimore Aquarium is incredible and Old Bay seasoning is good too.
ReferenceCreative510@reddit
While in Chattanooga, I saw their aquarium and was like "that's really fuckin familiar!"
animeguru@reddit
They're second only to our amazing flag.
Vert354@reddit
Y'all love your flag so much, it warms the heart.
relikter@reddit
Mr. Trash Wheel and the whole Trash Wheel family are great. Old Bay is delicious.
wormbreath@reddit
I don’t eat shellfish and have never eaten a crab, but I do like old bay! I also always think of row houses when I think Maryland, specifically Baltimore.
I’ve been to Maryland but just in like Chevy chase and other dc adjacent areas. So idk if that counts
HeirophantGreen@reddit
Another one of those fun states that confuse non-native English speakers about how to pronounce it.
Roar-Lions-Roar@reddit
I love downtown Annapolis and the brick streets. Not the biggest state Capitol by any means, but a great town.
