Do cops commonly ask to swear to God that you did nothing wrong ?

No, that was very unusual. But it's an old expression that became common and has since lost its meaning. It has no legal basis and is meaningless to many people. While some people still let it slip out of habit, it's been replaced in many official settings. For example in many courts swearing in a witness with "*Do you promise to tell the truth so help you God?*" is now "*Do you under penalty of perjury promise to tell the truth?*". I've heard both versions when serving jury duty. Another example is our *American Pledge of Allegiance* in its original form had no mention of God. Some religious types had the political muscle to insert God into it in the 1950's. But I refused to say the Pledge, which is voluntary, with the God part in it. I'd leave out the "*Under God*" words and got in trouble for it in school. That was a very long time ago and I won that argument. As for the officer giving that lady a ticket, there are some possibilities. **1**, she did nothing wrong and the officer was mistaken in what he saw and couldn't let it go. **2**, she had the phone in her left hand and the officer misspoke, then got caught and tongue-tied in his error and surprise at the woman without one hand. Whatever the truth is the "right hand" error is so out there there was no possibility of a conviction. So the case turned out the way it should have. Oh and I'm not a cop but in that situation on the side of the road I'd have let her go and wished her a nice day. No ticket, not even a warning.
