Cpu for less fps drops
Posted by FixCompetitive5556@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 20 comments
I currently use 5700g and 5070 i play on 1440p i play mostly Triple A games and notice there is so much fps drops even if i lower the settings the fps dont even increase, so im wondering if its a cpu problem? And if it is the cpu is it worth it to upgrade to 5700x? i can swap my 5700g and just add a little. Thank you in advance

RYZEN 5 5500X3D IT IS?? HAHA

I had a 5700g sold it and got a used 5800x for the same amount. It was very much worth the upgrade. If you don't need 8 cores then the 5500x3d off AliExpress is under $190 after taxes and import fees if you use the discount coupon. It is much better than the 5700x or 5800x regarding your fps drops

9070 instead of 5070 and then it would be good, lower CPU overhead, faster, more vram etc etc.

if im only going to be adding a little will 5700x be good?
EllipsoidBP@reddit
no, if the PC is mainly for gaming, you should aim for an X3D CPU. Those have much higher 1% lows, which is exactly what you want for your stutter issue. Another commenter recommended 5500X3D, which shouldn't be far from the price of a 5700X, yet give you a much better experience in gaming.

Not if you can get a 5800x3d as another commenter said. A 5700x is good but in not too long you’ll be looking at the same issues, stuttering and so on. If you want to make it to AM6 and skip AM5, a 5800x3d will likely carry you the entire way.

yes buy 5700x

5500x3d is on ali express for $180 right now. It'll take a min to come in but would be a big upgrade. Otherwise on ebay you can get 5700x3d used for around $350 if you want the two extra cores.
EllipsoidBP@reddit
That's a very good option. Seems to be around the price of a 5700x, and much faster than that in games.

I just checked for this myself. Didn't realize they were so reasonably priced. This is the way to go IMO.
Nagol567@reddit
It will immediately be bought out and resisted on ebay for 380-420 I bet.
9okm@reddit
Hold out for now. The 5800X3D is almost certainly going to be re-released. That's what you want.
EllipsoidBP@reddit
Indeed, 5800X3D is the absolute top dog of AM4 when it comes to gaming. You might want to keep your eyes on its re-release OP.
Nagol567@reddit
The 5500x3d is like 10% less performance for half the price. It should also last you until AM6 if the Ryzen 11000 series is the last AM5 chip... however with ram prices if the 13000 series hits AM5 its gonna be a painful last couple of years with either CPU
FixCompetitive5556@reddit (OP)
how much is that?
Cbeckstrand@reddit
Around $320 is the estimated MSRP but it will likely be almost impossible to get one at that.
Urdnot_Flexx@reddit
What is your RAM? That could also be a cause for stutters in certain situations. Also, the 5700g is an APU with only 16mb of L3 cache. You’re practically getting 5500 levels of 1% lows. I believe even switching to a 5600 will result in better performance in gaming.

32gb 2666 i think
9okm@reddit
All the more reason to wait for X3D, which isn't as impacted by slow memory.
