Where do you guys store your build logs?

I do my own work for the most part and generally my system is a disaster, I just end up with papers somewhere in my desk and random notes in my phone. What do y'all use right now? Anything you'd change about what you do?
basicKitsch@reddit
What do you need to track? Is the new gas tank in or not lol? Fender repaired?
Is that turbo header on or off the car?
If I needed to track things like costs I'd just put them in a binder. Or any of the million note taking apps.
Just know you're like the twentieth ai slop app fisher that's posted here in the past few months.

I just like keeping track of stuff like this. Having a system specifically for a thing I’m trying to do tends to help me in the way my head works. I don’t remember things like when I actually did oil changes and shit, so dedicated apps or tools help me a lot more than general notes. Sorry I come off like I did, I know my profile suggests I’m trying to milk the sub.
basicKitsch@reddit
I didn't even look at your profile. This shit is rampant.
And there are billions of note keeping apps with decades of support

Jesus, it's that bad?
I know there are tons of record apps like this. It's like every dev's first project because it's easy as hell lol
basicKitsch@reddit
notion, kanban, agile, ms project, todoist, anylist, "notes" on any platform, excel... three ring binders. what are you trying to solve that doesn't exist?
note taking, recording keeping, project management solutions have existed in any and all flavors since the dawn of time.
Antique_Offices@reddit (OP)
I've tried many variations of the app solutions to no success. I end up forgetting they exist or I try to cram more into those apps to get value out of them and just give up. Physical notes have been an issue because I just lose them. I have pretty bad ADHD, so I suspect having a big binder would actually be the best solution for me.
basicKitsch@reddit
same. across all accounts.
doubly same. an actual file cabinet and binders for the house, projects, special records is literally the best solution for me. even with paperless-ngx sitting idly on my server
Wide_Development2759@reddit
I thought about creating mobile app for this but there's probably some generic ones out there already.
Antique_Offices@reddit (OP)
Yeah I don’t doubt there are

Damn, I think this might even suit me well for work. Thanks!
LifeWithAdd@reddit
Incoming post about some dumb app OP is making.
Minuuven@reddit
I used a 3 ring binder for receipts and notes.
navlgazer9@reddit
Stacy David’s build notebook is very handy .
Healthy_Pain9582@reddit
I have a book that I write everything in except how much it cost
Ironrogue@reddit
I just have scribbles in a notebook…I'd like to soon make a story board for the shows...
texan01@reddit
Build? Logs? What is this sorcery you speak of?
I just keep the paper in a folder or in my head.
jayfactor@reddit
Excel sheet, keep it simple
keboh@reddit
I make a binder. All my receipts go there, and I usually keep some paper to write notes.
Clegko@reddit
I'm also a software developer, so I forked an app called "May" on Github and modified it for my own use. https://github.com/dannymcc/may
It's a pretty awesome app even as it stands, tbh.
Antique_Offices@reddit (OP)
That's really neat! The name origin is great too. Might have to check it out, I've already got several persistent Docker containers on my home server anyway
Clegko@reddit
I named mine Willman, just to keep the trend going.
EC_CO@reddit
I have 2 3-ring binders, a build thread on a vehicle specific forum and a Google drive with gigs of photos.
Jack_ButterKnobbs@reddit
I keep an excel/Google sheets for my builds so I can keep track of what they cost. I have a little note book for one of my builds but thats just a diary to write down my thoughts and think through the process on. Im also trying to keep a photo log so I can print them out and keep them in an album book like my grandpa has for his 69 chevelle when he restored it.
GoonDawg666@reddit
My plans exactly for my papaws 92 k1500 I’m going thru. Take a couple pics here and there for a binder to bring to car shows, and a big google spreadsheet with parts tab, helpful links tab, electrical tab, build steps tab, etc.
Antique_Offices@reddit (OP)
I love the photo album idea. I suppose my issue is just getting more disciplined in organization, then. Thanks for sharing!
HydraulicTractor@reddit
Spreadsheet on google sheets.
zenwren@reddit
If I kept accurate accounting I wouldn't be able to justify working on old junk.
