Do you ever feel guilty eating meat? 🥩

I keep going through phases of feeling so guilty for eating meat, but any time I try to eat vegetarian/ Vegan food I find it boring and tasteless. I also hate when you are eating meat and you experience bits of gristle and bone. I’ve noticed I tend to think of the animals being unalived too when I’m trying to eat their products which also doesn’t help.
OMITN@reddit
No.
And I grew up as the child of an serious animal rights advocating vegetarian/vegan.
I don’t turn myself inside out with gratitude (that modern obsession with being thankful does my head in) but I am careful not to waste the life that was given for me to eat.
And I am kind to all animals I encounter - I’ll do my best not to kill a fly or spider.

Exactly.
I often feel sad if I'm eating something that never used to have a face, though.
Fucking cheese salad sandwich, whack some animal in it...

This isn't TikTok, you can use adult words here.
Wishmaster891@reddit
I did think that was an odd choice of word. Is it an actual word?
Jirachi720@reddit
No. TikTok doesn't allow the words death/dead/died etc. so they will change it to "unalived", even a few YouTubers have also followed this trend incase they get demonetised. Frankly, I think it's ridiculous.
BungadinRidesAgain@reddit
Oh well, this is how languages change and develop. Not a big deal.
Ninjataye@reddit
If anything it plays down the seriousness of it. Seeing comments relating to a person who committed suicide by saying they unalived themselves just sounds so wrong
petiweb5@reddit
WTAF is this word. Am I getting old, or I am just simply not braindead?

No, the animal is already dead and my contribution is so small its virtually none existent. I don't want everyone to feel this way but it doesn't stop the fact that its the truth on an individualistic level. The animal I'm eating doesn't exist, I haven't done the killing.
VolcanicBear@reddit
I don't really like the conditions animals are kept in, but I'm also pretty confident I could kill something if I needed to for food. I feel the odd pang of guilt, but not enough to change my behaviour.
Regarding ethics, I personally respect veganism more than vegetarianism. Dairy animals are kept in shit conditions as well.
If you're finding meat free food bland and tasteless, you're doing it wrong though. Fake meat is shit.
Kieran293@reddit
Fake meat is only shit if you don’t know how to cook. Same how meat is only shit if you don’t know how to cook.
Many chefs suggest learning to cook vegetarian/vegan meals so you can get great tastes and textures without meat as a cheat code.
NinjafoxVCB@reddit
Out of interest, what is it about the conditions you don't like in the UK?
Genuinely asking as we have some of the highest animal welfare legislation in the world.
No_Coyote2234@reddit
I feel quilty if I dont eat the meat
-info-sec-@reddit
Nope.. beef last night, BBQ the night before..
Do not ever ever ever feel bad.
ambabeeee@reddit
Yes but I feel just as bad drinking cows milk so I've largely switched to oat milk and have reduced my meat intake. That's better than nothing!
CranberryCheese1997@reddit
Nope. No guilt whatsoever.
However, vegan/vegetarian food is only as bad as the person making the food. I have a couple of vegan friends. Honestly their food is just as nice us meat eaters. But they don't try and pretend like their food is meat. They just make food without meat in it and it tastes lovely. I personally love meat too much too much to ever willingly give it up. But vegan food not capable of being tasty isn't the reason. Vegan food is bad when it's trying to be something it's not. Like a fake steak ks obviously not going to taste as good as a real steak. But when it's just honest food not pretending to be something it isn't, vegan food can be great.
Black_flamingo@reddit
I was a vegan/veggie for years but changed for health reasons, and yes I always feel guilty when I eat meat.
I will say that going veggie forces you to learn to cook.
Logically_Open@reddit
I've never even thought about it once. It's completely healthy and normal, and vegetarians suffer much more than other people in the long term
infieldcookie@reddit
How do vegetarians suffer more than meat eaters…?
Kieran293@reddit
Because we have to deal with idiots who think we will suddenly evaporate due to a lack of meat.
Jack_In_Black89@reddit
No. Im an omnivore, with a digestive system designed for meat and vegetables.
I am however an ethical individual, and try to always make sure the animal Im eating has been reared humanely eg free range.
TapeDeckSlick@reddit
Genuinely not even once
AdhesivenessGlum1143@reddit
Yes, that’s why I am vegetarian now. I’d say that if you put a bit more effort to build flavour vegetarian food can be really good. It can be easy to get stuck eating essentially just sides but you can do a lot with beans and make food that feels “meaty” without actually emulating meat. Ofc nothing wrong with fake meat but often it’s not for me.
Luton_Enjoyer@reddit
"Unalived"?
Overall-Error4057@reddit
I'm veggie, but I buy chicken for my ferret & cats (well cats eat normal cat food). These animals can't physically survive of a veggie diet compared to other pets. I feel a bit guilty, though I'm not consuming it.
I feel horrible seeing all the meat waste posted on some subs here though since they died for no reason, only to be thrown to the trash (due to expiry dates)
FigKombucha@reddit
I did feel guilty about eating meat, so I stopped and have been vegetarian for 11 years now, with 8 of those years fully plant-based.
There's a massive array of both vegetarian and vegan food, and it doesn't have to be be boring and tasteless. What kinds have you tried? What does your diet look like right now?
DatGuy82772@reddit
Could literally make the exact same argument about veg considering they are also living.
evenifihateit@reddit
I don't eat meat and haven't for more than 35 years
If you don't like the vegetarian 'meat substitutes' don't eat them. I rarely do. Vegetarian food is just any food that isn't meat or fish- there is an awful lot of non meat food out there that isn't something trying to be like meat
EatingCoooolo@reddit
Sucking that marrow out of those bones are so yummy, I rarely eat a meal without animal in it.
derpina_royale@reddit
I did for a while but i stopped because i have terrible ibs with gluten, soy and legumes so really struggle to digest meat alternatives. End of the day i didnt choose to be born and im not having kids so thats my contribution to less suffering/overconsumption. Every other part of my life im pretty concious about the eco system but im not going to make myself even more chronically ill when lifes hard enough as it is.
Zealousideal_View47@reddit
Sometimes I do, but a) I really like meat and b) I’m autistic and have a limited diet anyway, and although I’m trying to introduce more fruit and veg etc I would lose a lot of my safe foods if I stopped eating meat. There are some vegan/veggie alternatives I enjoy and will choose over meat sometimes
BollockOff@reddit
Nope. I could easily watch a heard of cows while eating a burger.
GREENGRAVY_@reddit
Business idea.
Kvark33@reddit
No, I will typically try and source good quality meat as to avoid gristle and bone.
Ethically, I don't think about it. It is what it is and have hunted animals for thousands of years. Some meat comes from slaughter houses, other has been sourced through hunting i.e venison which is needed to improve animal welfare and support the ecosystem.
Vivid_Employment8635@reddit
Nope. Plants are living things too, something usually has to die for you to be able to eat, that’s just how things are.
__sunmoonstars__@reddit
Sounds like before anything you need to learn to cook better veggie food. There is no reason that it should be boring and is great to add to any repertoire.
Sometimes I want to stop eating meat, but I don’t eat much anyway. I never want to stop eating fish though, that brings me a LOT of joy.
purehallion@reddit
never
SauconyAlts@reddit
I do like eating meat however I try and be conscious of where it comes from. I did go veggie for about 3 or 4 months in the summer last year, I didnt find it bland as it all depends on the spices and herbs etc that you use and the different cooking methods
plant-strong@reddit
No, because as soon as I was able to make my own decisions around food I stopped eating it.
smiley6125@reddit
No but I do feel guilty about wasting it.
UnrivalledPG@reddit
No , I don't . No matter how much vegetarian food I can eat , there is no satiety and I starve very quickly.
Cold_Timely@reddit
Get a grip
Crafty_Manner2487@reddit
I used to be like that and just accepted I hate meat and hate the way we get meat too!
I found transitioning really hard to start with and ate what felt like really bland food but now I think the food is so much more flavoursome cos the flavour of flesh that I jTed isn’t there anymore for me!
I would say look for some flavoursome recipes try different things first before going back to your usuals alongside what you eat.
Even my carnivore husband asks me for my southern fried tofu !
Virtual_Opinion_8630@reddit
not guilty but mindful
I don't eat it daily and I'm not sure I'd want to either
Far_wide@reddit
Nope.
I don't know what on earth meat you're eating with so much gristle and bone, have you been at the Chinese supermarket? Get a pack of chicken breast. Or salmon fillets if that's any better for you.
