Upgrade to5070 or 9070?

To start I have a i7-8700k, 1070, liquid cpu cool, 32 ram and 750w
Have been running this pc for almost 10 years now with no issues and thinking about upgrading my gpu cause the newer games are catching up with all this upscaling and raytracing stuff. I run on 1080p and don’t play a lot of raytracing games anyways which is making me lean toward the 9070 as it has slightly more raw power. But the dlss looks a lot cleaner on the 5070 and raytracing will be far better for the future. Any thoughts?

with that CPU it won't matter

if you never user upscaling go 9070, if you do use 5070
dlss is leagues better than fsr in visual quality and performance gains. but if you’re someone who only runs games at native resolution the 9070 has a little more raw power

FSR 4 is great but the downside is you have to deal with Nvidia paying developers to block its implementation.

it’s also just not nearly as good. coming from someone who’s used fsr4 and dlss 4.5. it’s just not nearly as good

Well either GPU will be held back by that CPU so in the end it doesnt really matter but, the 9070 is a far bit faster than a 5070 in a handful of modern games and the 16gbs make it something worth considering for sure, though it should be said DLSS is currently still better than FSR4

Don't play a lot of ray tracing or can't play ray tracing games.
Also any of those GPU's will be overkill for 1080p, DLSS or upscaling tech is not typically used for 1080p either. With a 1080p monitor your CPU will be bottlenecking both of those GPU's as well. If you're upgrading GPU you should start with the monitor and aim for a resolution/graphics setting, say 1440p high settings 144hz+. Then you could upgrade your CPU / Mobo down the line with a 14th gen i5 or similar as they are still compatible with DDR4 to keep costs down.
I'd upgrade GPU with the intention of upgrading monitor unless you go for a card like a 5060 ti / 9060 xt which are also capable of 1440p at this point. A better monitor will also make your games look better than a graphics card.

For the price of a 5070 you can buy a 9070XT.
I would go 9070(XT), since I dont want to support a brand that cooperates with Palantir.

The Nvidia drivers have more CPU overhead, so keep that in mind.
I have a had both Nvidia and AMD cards. Currently I have a 4090. If we’re in your shoes I would go with the 9070/XT.

If you want to "future proof" the 5070 is better over all for you, as you said it will have better raytracing for longer. It also will hgae better software compatibility and less driver issues, Dlss and FG will genuinely make everything much better on the long run. Yes the 12gb of vram can be an issue long term but if the thing of vram compression is true then there will be no need to worry about that(we dont know if it'll be available soon or if at all really).
The 9070 excels in raw power and more vram. Fsr is getting better and frame gen too and u cam actually use lossless scaling and it'll work well for a lot of years tbh.
From what you said i think the 5070 will be better for you over all, and you will enjoy it more than you would a 9070.
