What's the most outlandish lie you've known someone to put on a work, volunteering, educational or other application?

I had a friend who put on his successful university application (to LSE) that he was captain of the cricket team. In fact, he confirmed to me that he'd never been in the cricket team. He'd probably never played an actual game of cricket. Pretending to just be in the team wouldn't be enough I suppose.

Recent applicant said that he had worked for a company, as their credit controller, for 3 years. They obviously hadn't read the role as it was for the same company, doing the exact role. He hadn't worked for us before.

I know of at least 2 people who said they were qualified but actually weren't. 1 was let go immediately when it came out, the other was allowed to do his nvq.... would you believe he wasn't an ideal employee ¿

My mate made a fake CV using all his sisters grades as he couldn't remember his own.

Came across someone professionally who had put LSE as their university on their cv and linkedin. Very much giving the impression they had attended LSE in london, and had done a full degree. Whereas in reality they had done a university of london online distance foundation course from abroad and had never set foot in the uk before. And when questioned replied that the modules were the same and LSE is part of UoL so its the same..

Well you could put on your CV that you were store manager at Toys r us, no one could prove it 😉

That is a good point that I’d never thought of.

My high school and the first three places I worked all no longer exist, there’s no way to prove or disprove anything.

TLDR - don't lie on your CV if you're hopping between UK telcos, we all know eachother.
I was at EE, and my manager asked me to look at a few CVs and choose 2 I liked. One of the CVs was from a guy I had worked with in another telco, and it sounded like he had basically launched Google, among other impressive achievements. There was also his version of what happened at the other telco. My version - my manager at that telco came to me and basically complained that why hadn't we alerted him about this guy's incompetence before the probation period had expired? I emailed an ex-colleague and verified that he hadn't done any of what he was claiming at that telco. Result - CV rejected. He still turned up in another role, just one of those guys who get contracts with BS and then asks people for the answers after they get the job.

A good few years back their was a story on my local car forum of a guy who'd waxed lyrical on his CV about being the guy who made the forum and was hands on in the day to day running of it and all the responsibilities that came with it. Was apparently trying to show leadership qualities, would of probably been a good interview had one of the panel been the person who actually built the forum and was a silent moderator so knew what everyone did as a back end person
