What chocolate or sweets are pure trash but somehow still popular?

Saw this over in the AskReddit and thought it was perfect for here
Sufficient-Network83@reddit
Hersheys. Tasted it for the first time a while back in the UK, horrid.
Few_Total_919@reddit
Hersheys huge in US, cant imagine will ever be popular in the UK, way too sweet
Jaded_Telephone8938@reddit
Sweet?! What hersheys are you eating it tastes like straight up post drunken vomit stomach acid burning your throat. Rancid chocolate.
Few_Total_919@reddit
I was trying not to get too passionate regarding my dislike of this product but I will happily go with your description
NinjafoxVCB@reddit
It's not a case of people being passionate in their choice of words, it literally has Butyric acid which is a make up of vomit
IntrepidMaybe8579@reddit
Its not even that. Theres a pukey throat sting aftertaste too
floreal999@reddit
Butyric acid
Jaded_Telephone8938@reddit
It's a vile confectionery
tcpukl@reddit
That's American though.
Ok_Net4562@reddit
People at work always leave sweets n choc on our helpdesk when they come back from holiday. Thanks to the gannits in my office, you're lucky if they even last half hour before theyre all gone. Hersheys on the other hand, sit there for days even weeks! Vile. Taste like sick.
LakesTrees221116@reddit
That’s exactly what I thought when I tried them - they tasted and smelled of vomit! 🤮
Ill-Appointment6494@reddit
Please don’t blame us for the that. The US are crap at making chocolate and sweets. So much so they’re ruining ours as well.
Several_Hospital_129@reddit
I never knew what real chocolate 🍫 tasted like until I lived in England 🏴. Now I can't bear the thought of rain eating Hershey.
atworkorpooping@reddit
Someone once said "Hershey's Kisses" sounds like another word for genital warts and it has put me off trying them
Ok_Net4562@reddit
They look like piles too
Recent-Climate6942@reddit
Cadburys daily milk. Texture like wax, mostly oil, hardly any chocolate left in the thing.
FCSadsquatch@reddit
You're buying the wrong one, it's dairy you're after, not daily.
Panele-paslaptis@reddit
Ben&Jerry’s ice cream. It’s too sweet, dense/ non creamy and really quite unpleasant.
GainsAndPastries@reddit (OP)
Haven’t had that for over 10 years, used to love Phish Food and Baked Alaska
C0nnectionTerminat3d@reddit
Any sort of pick and mix chocolate; white mice, nibbles, jazzies etc. It’s so waxy and weirdly textured, chocolate shouldn’t crumble.
ohnaka12@reddit
The entire supply of Jazzies need shooting into the sun. Shocking.
kylehyde84@reddit
Absolute guilty pleasure of mine but they are pure shite ill agree
thisissockwormadness@reddit
Tried a white mice when I was a kid and nearly threw up. Fucking revolting.
skewiffcorn@reddit
I loved all these as a kid but find them sooo bad now 😅
wroclad@reddit
Tic Tacs.
They've like eating broken teeth.
PlacidBlocks@reddit
Tony's Chocolonlely.
I understand their message but Jesus Christ the chocolate tastes terrible and people on Reddit love to rant and eave about how nice it is compared to Galaxy or Cadburys...
kitty4196@reddit
It really does taste like cheap advent calendar chocolate to me
WonkyGaze@reddit
Yeah, like cheap Easter eggs and Christmas.
RaspberryJammm@reddit
The dark does. The milk is nice though.
CappriGirl@reddit
Oh gosh I thought it was just me. Really average 🍫
DiscoDoberman@reddit
That's what it looks like it tastes like.
It has that same shade of cheap chocolate brown.
Acceptable-Sentence@reddit
The best bit about it is that’s impossible to break off comparable chunks so always decends into arguements from the kids
Justboy__@reddit
Do you not use the opportunity to teach them about communism or whatever the lesson is?
Acceptable-Sentence@reddit
I do, I rule with an iron fist and tell them they can have what they are given or fuck all it’s up to them
Sidian@reddit
'Um, but did you know that the chunks represent-' I don't gie a FUCK. Terrible stuff.
GlitchingGecko@reddit
I've tried it several times to try and understand the hype, and agree, it's awful.
Galaxy is still pretty good. M&S own brand is good too.
StephanieLillibet@reddit
Yes, I was the devil incarnate for saying Tony's chocolate is horrible and greasy. I'd rather get a bar of galaxy or milka.
phatboi23@reddit
i go for the aldi 80+% chocolate, as it slaps the tits off any of the fancy brands imo.
also because i like dark chocolate.
_LazyBrewer@reddit
Parma voilets
Yes lets make a sweet that tastes like ur nan 🤣
Rude-Possibility4682@reddit
Fruit gums and fruit pastilles. They tasted much better when they didn't have natural flavours.
MonkeysMonolith@reddit
I bought fruit pastilles yesterday, They were great!
hurricane279@reddit
LOL
wreckinballbob@reddit
Same with Tizer, when it was nothing but chemical goodness, it was delicious. When they changed it to natural flavours and colours it was minging.
Accurate_Engine_8089@reddit
🤣
Dry-Letterhead-2902@reddit
Jelly babies
this_charming_bells@reddit
Jelly babies are like crack to me. I can't go near them or I'll demolish the whole bag in minutes. Love them
Dry-Letterhead-2902@reddit
You can have my share of jelly babies
Snoo2185@reddit
The Haribo ones are the best for sure
JustAnotherFEDev@reddit
The white ones (lemonade?) are ace. When I used to buy my kid and myself them for movie night, she always had to look through the packaging to count the white ones and then she'd choose that bag. Sometimes it backfired as she'd miscounted and I ended up with more, much to her disappointment.
Obviously being a good dad, I scoffed um dead quick and spent half the night mentioning I had the most 😂
e-pancake@reddit
white is pineapple I believe, absolutely top tier
JustAnotherFEDev@reddit
TIL. When you said pineapple, I thought "nah", finally got round to Googling it and I'm shocked, truly shocked. I've had 2 bags of Supermix this week, too. Gonna grab another later, just to make sure, in the interests of science and all that 😅
HMP729G@reddit
Yup - I love the Roulette Haribo. White (pineapple) is clearly the best
JustAnotherFEDev@reddit
Absolutely the best, but I feel like they don't taste like pineapple. I genuinely thought they were lemonade 😂
UKMegaGeek@reddit
As a diabetic, I use Maynards Jelly Babies to treat a hypoglycaemic episode (blood sugar goes too low), so to me, they are tasty medicine!
Dry-Letterhead-2902@reddit
There is certainly worse medicine and i have blood sugar issues and have eaten some diabolical things when its dropped so i would also opt for jelly babies if i had them around lol
bsnimunf@reddit
I agree haribo is normaly trash but the jelly babies are better.
LopsidedLegs@reddit
Rather partial to the Lidl ones.
DryCartographer3818@reddit
Oreo’s and all associated Oreo flavoured products. Tastes like baked mud! How does anyone enjoy them? Not technically chocolate or sweets though
MrRedDoctor@reddit
Flake. It's absolutely shit chocolate. It has no quality, no matter the metric you're measuring.
But I love it and keep on buying it myself.
Negative-Associate38@reddit
Also pretty much guaranteed to spray you with shards of chocolate which instantly melt even in the midst of winter.
DiscoDoberman@reddit
All these caramelized biscuit products that are suddenly everywhere.
It's just horribly sweet.
And I love sugar.
This is just like sugar + sugar.
It would work well in small amounts with a really creamy vanilla ice-cream, but otherwise it's doing nothing for me.
Negative-Associate38@reddit
It's like salted caramel but worse somehow.
namur17056@reddit
Parma violets
Nimble_Natu177@reddit
Sour Patch Kids, whatever changes they made to the UK recipe makes them taste so bland compared to their American counterparts that are just as easy to get here.
Unprounounceable@reddit
I also hate that while the US version is vegetarian, the UK ones have gelatin for some reason.
Nimble_Natu177@reddit
What a strange thing to not carry over, must be some logistical related reason behind the ingredients perhaps.
Mediocre_mum26@reddit
The blue raspberry ones are nice!
abyssal-isopod86@reddit
Dubai chocolate - tastes like disappointment
tcpukl@reddit
That's not even British though.
GlitchingGecko@reddit
Depends where you get it. Some of them are delicious, as long as you like pistachio.
If you don't, then they're going to suck regardless.
UrMomDotCom666@reddit
My dad's friend lives in Dubai and he brought the original ones over when he visited. They were so bad and just tasted like sugar, not pistachio or even chocolate. Looks like the worse dubai chocolate is the one actually from dubai lol.
flyingmooset@reddit
Also a euphemism….
jwf91@reddit
I love the SEO cover up conspiracy
MrRedDoctor@reddit
Depends which one. The M&S Big Daddy and Waitrose one are good
MrBrexitBall@reddit
Bounty or Liquorice all sorts. I still remember receiving a bounty bar on the last day of my school year as a reward for high attendance, was disgusted.
omnishambles1995@reddit
Liquorice Allsorts are waiting to greet us in hell
Fun_Budget7641@reddit
Yeah they suck.
TemporaryLucky3637@reddit
The bobbly ones are elite 🤌🏻
omnishambles1995@reddit
They taste like Bonjela to me
Pure-Dead-Brilliant@reddit
I love Liquorice Allsorts. I hope Bertie Bassett is there to greet me as I enter the after life.

Cadbury’s chocolate

God, I fucking love Squashies, all variety's.
Prestigious-Rough-27@reddit
Noooo the bubblegum Squashies were to die for!
SimpleTennis517@reddit
Marshmallows
Jonny7421@reddit
Cadbury, Nestle, McVities. I would rather pay a little more for quality and enjoy it. I eat less which is healthier.
Fine_Cress_649@reddit
My most controversial take as a Scot - tunnocks tea cakes.
Tunnocks caramel wafers are S tier but the teacakes taste like melted polystyrene
HighlandsBen@reddit
As an immigrant, I'll have the teacakes you don't want. The caramel wafers are okay I guess, but always give me a lurking thought that I've just got a stale overgrown KitKat.
vientianna@reddit
As someone who’s eaten three of them already today
……..
alphahydra@reddit
I quite like the taste, but the shape and constriction make them awkward and unpleasant to eat.
A thin, hard shell covering semi-liquid marshmallowy stuff. Biting into it makes the shell fracture in multiple places and forces the non-solid contents out onto your hands and/or face. The dome shape forces large bites which exacerbates the breakdown of the thing in your hand, and the shape and size are perfectly engineered to make a mess of your face.
asjonesy99@reddit
It’s nice to be able to have a marshmallow-like thing as a vegetarian though
Anlizu2@reddit
Have you tried M&S vegan mallows?
asjonesy99@reddit
Yes but a bit expensive and end up eating them in one sitting! At least tea cakes will last a few days lol
Befuddled_fish@reddit
This was hard to hear
bladefiddler@reddit
Agreed, teacakes can do one. Caramel logs are the goat though - all the goodness of a wafer with added coconut goodness!
thatguysaidearlier@reddit
I always feel like the biscuit part is stale.
If that was a proper crisp bit of shortbread...
ImScaredSoIMadeThis@reddit
This is a hot take! Totally disagree, I think buying wafers from the international section for a quarter of the price are normally much nicer than Tunnock's.
The tea cakes though are banging. Like eating a sweet chocolate covered cloud
dairylee@reddit
Perfect for dunking in a cuppa
Coffee_beardo@reddit
100% agree, but have you tried putting one in the freezer?
Auselessbus@reddit
Yes! I feel like I am always alone when I say I don’t like their tea cakes.
Altruistic_Hall9559@reddit
Cadbury, apparently the brand isn't even considered to be chocolate anymore in some countries.
Head_Priority5152@reddit
Personally haribo. Massively overrated. I think there's much nicer jelly sweets.
uniquelyRelevant16@reddit
Parma violets
LakesTrees221116@reddit
Disgusting things! 🤮
Kid_Kimura@reddit
When I first tried them I thought it was a prank. Cannot fathom how they are even considered edible.
ImScaredSoIMadeThis@reddit
Absolutely vile things
fbruk@reddit
Boggin things.
DDWildflower@reddit
Blackjacks
Cheese-n-Opinion@reddit
Jammie Dodgers.
The biscuit is dry and the jam is bland and gummy. I strongly suspect a lot of people who think they like Jammie Dodgers are actually thinking of Fox's Jam n' Creams.
LadyMirkwood@reddit
Drumstick lollies are nowhere as good as they used to be.
SceneDifferent1041@reddit
Those Violet things.... Who has ever asked for those?
LadyMirkwood@reddit
They always make me think of talcum powder
Icy_Reply_7830@reddit
Me, I LOVE them 💜
SceneDifferent1041@reddit
You are a wild person. I fear you.
JeffBroccoli@reddit
I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone buy and eat a Mars Bar
LadyMirkwood@reddit
The trick with mars bars is to freeze them and eat them in slices.
Prestigious-Rough-27@reddit
With you on this! Far too much nougat. Very sickly.
WraithOfEvaBraun@reddit
I just ate one 😆 I've had a thing for them lately and I'm not even sure why because like almost all chocolate now it's not good
LadyDisdain89@reddit
My da.
Offered me a Mars Bar a few months ago and I felt like I’d went back in time
DiscoDoberman@reddit
Cadburys Chocolate Fingers.
Unpopular opinion but their other chocolate is OK.
However I bought some Chocolate Fingers recently and they just tasted very sweet.
LadyMirkwood@reddit
I can't have gluten and Schar do their own version.
The biscuit is much nicer than the Cadbury ones and the chocolate is darker and bitter. They are really nice
bsnimunf@reddit
Try the Aldi ones. Once you've head those you will come crawling back to Cadburys with apologies.
Jaycei@reddit
Nerds!
PianoMiddle346@reddit
We don't say trash for a start, not unless someone is pathetically trying to ape yanks. Rubbish is the word. Cheers 😂
Chibi_Panda2@reddit
Cadburys chocolate used to be amazing but is rubbish now, give me galaxy or milka any day
d-a-s-a-l-i@reddit
Quality Street - When opening the box/bag it just smells like cheap sugar.
Yesterday I watched a video with Macaulay Culkin tasting UK snacks for LADbible. When he opened the bag he said "smells like diabetes" .... 100% correct.
Mediocre_mum26@reddit
Yep, the staple of Christmas sweets has seriously tanked over the last 5 years or so. Especially when they ditched the foil wrapping.
d-a-s-a-l-i@reddit
I’m “new” to the UK and the first time I have gotten a box of Quality street was probably late 2020.
dianthuspetals@reddit
After years of not having anything like Quality Street, Roses etc. I recently discovered M&S’s Big Mix. Really delicious and far better than any of the other tins/boxes out there.
GainsAndPastries@reddit (OP)
Must say you’re spot on here, had a tin at Christmas that was completely tasteless, not sure what has happened to the product
Nuthetes@reddit
Cadbury's is utter shite now. Just completely ruined since the yanks took it over.
Wait-Whos-Joe@reddit
Brain lickers - god i used to love them as a kid
2014R1@reddit
Cadburys is not what it used to be
Dry-Letterhead-2902@reddit
HARIBO
PrimaryFace_733@reddit
As a German who hates gummy bears, this simultaneously validates and deeply offends me.
bsnimunf@reddit
Why do they make them so bland?
Dry-Letterhead-2902@reddit
Theyre too hard and bland vegan gummy sweets are way better (im not vegan they just are)
Cold_Table8497@reddit
I had a single liquorice allsort last night. Absolutely vile! WTF happened to them?
No wonder my wife said I could have them. The, still nearly full, bag is now in the bin.
wheatamix@reddit
Pretty much any American sweets or chocolate can firmly get it the bin. The novelty of imported American food stuffs wore off about a decade ago.
Liquorice Allsorts and Parma violets are probably bottom tier for me.
Mediocre_mum26@reddit
Chocolate maybe, but Swedish fish, twizzlers, froot loops and chex mix are top tier American snackeroos
j__knight638@reddit
Takis as well, they're banging
Sidian@reddit
The amount of seasoning they put on them is absurd. Absolutely absurd. And I love it.
wheatamix@reddit
Sorry but in a world of fizzy laces and strawberry pencils, twizzlers are the equivalent of chewing on a flavourless bike tyre. Fruit loops are just sugar for the sake of sugar - not a patch on crunchy nut cornflakes, however ill give Golden Grahams their due.
depressofairy@reddit
Fruit gums. I dont want my fillings pulled out.
Infamous_Telephone55@reddit
KitKats - the chocolate is meh and the wafer is just there to fill space and bulk up a tablespoon full of chocolate to make it chocolate bar sized.
Justboy__@reddit
This must just be rage bait. I don’t even need to read to comments to know what to expect.
Leeeeeroy-Jenkins@reddit
Dairy Milk obviously gonna be the most popular example. EU and UK recipes downsized in cocoa and milk solids, palm oil replacement.
It was probably never all that good, but it’s definitely not now.
Still very popular, although sales of Easter products seemed to take a massive hit this year due in part to aforementioned diminished quality as well as inflation and shrinking product sizes.
GlitchingGecko@reddit
I went into a couple of supermarkets after Easter, and it seems like most brands had trouble selling stock this year.
Waitrose were selling shelves of Lindt Eggs (£18), down to £4 the week after Easter just to get rid of them, and Asda had pallets worth of Cadbury and Nestle ones at under £1 each.
harlequin_24@reddit
It’s definitely change since it was bought by Kraft. Tastes like crap now.
Cold_Raspberry520@reddit
Quality sweets
No_Acanthaceae_362@reddit
Whilst loosely confectionery, the biggest travesty is the Walls Feast Ice Cream.
Used to be thick chocolate and hazelnuts coating a decent chocolate ice cream with a solid milk chocolate core through the full length.
Now it's thin, tasteless and oily chocolate covering a bland ice cream with a pitiful toenail shaped chocolate nugget that ends disappointly too soon.
Walls, like so many others just fucked it.
bobmbface@reddit
Haribo taste of plastic
Pure-Dead-Brilliant@reddit
Pez. I know some people collect the dispensers but the sweets themselves are nasty, little, chalk bricks.
lorl3ss@reddit
Anything Cadburys now that it got bought out and they stopped using milk. Honestly, it tastes awful now.
DiscoDoberman@reddit
They didn't stop using milk.
Dry-Letterhead-2902@reddit
Caramilk
missafricanbarbie77@reddit
Agreed. Way too sweet
eyesonly456@reddit
Cadburys it's disgusting to eat now
ConfidenceMundane205@reddit
Cadburys chocolate.
Pazvante_Chiorul@reddit
Mr. Beast's Feastables chocolate, pure trash indeed..
Fun-Lingonberry4676@reddit
Quality of cadburys gone off the edge off a cliff the last couple years..
madeonworkstime@reddit
Wham bars are shit these days. Before you'd bite some off and have a 6 inch skinny piece of toffee that you had to stop getting stuck to chin. Nowadays they're just shit and bite in whole pieces. Absolutely butchered that description but I hope you know what I mean
