Does Vucic still have any support left in Serbia?
Posted by Excellent-Red_8647@reddit | AskBalkans | View on Reddit | 97 comments
Vucic won the 2022 election with 60 percent of the votes. However for like the last one and a half year there have been anti-corruption protests in the country. And there will be elections in 2027. So my question is does Vucic still have enough support left to win the election? Or will he end up like Orban?
AdvantageStatus4635@reddit
Well if he fulfills what he promised in China he'll win easily. Robot factory, recovery of Vranje factories etc.
No-Ear5563@reddit
That robot factory is a meme idea, yeah lets produce dogshit humanoid robots which are completely useless. Can't be used in military, production, only in entertainment. And its not that hard to buy chinese weapons, they are willing to sell them to African countries, let alone European ones.
Only rare Vučić W worth mentioning is cooperation with Israel, military technical institute basically got propelled 50 years into the future with the Israeli technology transfer deal.
AdvantageStatus4635@reddit
The other person posted link in other comment.

AdvantageStatus4635@reddit
It's important that people get jobs.
Also thanks for mentioning Israeli deal that's also great for security of country.
No-Ear5563@reddit
Barely anyone is willing to work in factories, especially chinese ones with shitty pay and working conditions. Once government funding dries up, those local factories usually bring foreign workforce which is willing to work for 300 euros, or simply close and move somewhere else. Thats not a good economic policy
AdvantageStatus4635@reddit
You're too pessimistic, we'll see what happens.
No-Ear5563@reddit
Nah dude I'm realistic. Check out what happened to most of his foreign investments.
AdvantageStatus4635@reddit
Well we'll see, robot factory should start producing in July, according to him.
True-Blacksmith4235@reddit
Robot factory 😂
I’m dying
Machinekalibar@reddit
Robot factorey will certainly open. In this link you can open a newspaper post which has video inside of it and you will see CEO of Agibot Europe the biggest humanoid robot maker there and Minth group COO (they will be doing contract manufacturing on robots, they have 4000 employees in Serbia) confurming that they will be making robots in mid 2026. Chinese are talking in english so all of you can understand https://www.blic.rs/biznis/vesti/agibot-srbiju-smo-odabrali-za-proizvodnju-robota-zbog-poslovnog-okruzenja/g699ttr
Also they signed law binding subsidies agreement. Whic is usually signed even after building started already. I estimate chances of it opening are 100%. Also politicans never lay for something that will happen in a month or two. Its always 6 months next year. Also prime chinese finaicial outlet has confirmed invesmtent. Subscription costs 100 dollars so i let AI remove the paywall

AdvantageStatus4635@reddit
If all of this is true and fulfilled it is even bigger than I thought. Thanks for posting. Blockaders can cry only.
Living_Rough_992@reddit
Just another Vučić bot. He has lost all support among younger people, educated people and urban population. The only thing he has left is some right-wingers, retirees, and a portion of the countryside population. He would lose easily if the elections are fair and his grip on the media and judiciary wasn't so tight.
AdvantageStatus4635@reddit
you mean among alt people of Belgrade and NS, we see on TV what type of people support opposition.
Living_Rough_992@reddit
Sure, buddy, keep telling yourself that. Vučić supporters at his rallies are hiding their face and running away from cameras 🤣 You know that most of them are ashamed to be there and are being blackmailed by the SNS party who employs them. How many times have we seen that these people are literally being paid to be there or blackmailed by their bosses and managers in order to keep their jobs? In reality, Vučić does not have more than 35% of support.
AdvantageStatus4635@reddit
Why is that? Maybe because you are targeting them on social networks like Reddit. Did r/serbia just attacked principal of NS high school, and why is that, cause he is doing his job.
Living_Rough_992@reddit
They are doing that because they are embarrassed to be there. The only ones who are being targeted are the protestors. We have seen multiple times people being fired for not going to the rallies, or being beaten at or after the protests, or run over by cars...
AdvantageStatus4635@reddit
Being run over by cars is not organised by SNS. It's FAFO, there are a lot of people who are angry/furious because they blocked from going where they want, then some of them are crazy enough and that happens.
In other country police would arrest you immediately for blocking roads. and beat the * out of people who want to block motorways, airports etc.
But I guess we are democracy after all.
Living_Rough_992@reddit
Just because this is happening on other countries, it doesn't mean that it's okay. And it's not only police. The police are cooperating with masked people, many of whom are criminals, to beat protestors together. This is definitely unorthodox and specific for Serbia.
AdvantageStatus4635@reddit
it's okay if they want to destabilize country. Look at how mr Trump broke protests after fires in LA.
lol specific to Serbia, you think other countries don't have paramilitaries, secret police etc.
Living_Rough_992@reddit
They do not have paramilitaries full of criminals. They are not trying to destabilize the country, this is a classic Vučić talking point and how I know 100% you are a bot. Vučić and SNS are not the country, these things are not the same. Vučić is basically like the French king Louis XIV who famously said: "I am the state" ( Država, to sam ja). 🤣🤣
AdvantageStatus4635@reddit
Yeah blocking motorways and blocking people from going to work, to schools is not destabilizing after all. How many students lost their scholarship because of this stupid games?
Living_Rough_992@reddit
People have a right to protest. The damage that SNS has caused is far, far greater.
AdvantageStatus4635@reddit
Yeah people can protest without intefering with other people life's. People can go on some kind of grass fields or park etc. and don't block traffic. When you block roads police has every right and obligation to clear them.
Mediocre-Carpet-2327@reddit
Yeah, and why do they do that? You think everyone is protesting because they are bored? 16 people died, not a single person held accountable. Recently one of the main guys in police involved in murder. Don't you think that there is a fat reason why are people on the streets?
AdvantageStatus4635@reddit
Yeah and you think SNS is guilty for 16 people and you know that Vučić was opening station just a month / week before that (can't remember now). Maybe it was sabotage by some worker who worked there in order to spark protests. How do you know it is corruption that killed?
And when student girl jumped and killed herself few months ago, you didn't block streets for 16 min etc. you continued protests like nothing ever happened.
You protest because you cannot win elections the other way. Nobody will vote for parties like PSG which want to give Kosovo, or ZLF which wants to legalize marihuana. So you created so called student party (we don't know who is on the list, a phantom party) without students on it.
True-Blacksmith4235@reddit
You are the kind of person who would claim the protest in Slavija numbered 34.000 people.
AdvantageStatus4635@reddit
For examp when police entered rector house, some of students were wearing piercings alt blue / green hair like they're doing drugs and not being students at all.
What do you think people in small towns and villages would think about them?
True-Blacksmith4235@reddit
Every normal person I know in real life would never ever vote for Vučić, so definitely not only “alternative”, or whatever you call them.
Excellent-Red_8647@reddit (OP)
Well I thought that most people in Serbia turned against him due to the massive protests I saw. But can there be a silent majority that still supports Vucic?
AdvantageStatus4635@reddit
Well I am not silent, also pensioners who support him and will vote for him they don't really go to protests.
SlepiPutnik@reddit
Yes, he got great support from criminals.
Humble-Bear@reddit
The student list is trying to be SNS 2.0 but without the corruption and dysfunctional institutions. So, clearly the majority of Serbs like the policies of Vucic in general.
The idea, in principle, to the uninformed person, makes sense. Extract as much as you can from all the superpowers of the world. And this is why so many support it.
What they are blind to is that this is a zero sum game. You are not really gaining with any of these deals, you are giving up much more, but the public is not aware of all this, the huge debt, the much higher prices, the lack of any leverage whatsoever in negotiating economically when you just whore yourself out to the highest bidder.
So Vucic is following the general playbook of how to win over the vast majority of serbs, of which most are very uneducated.
No-Ear5563@reddit
In theory, SNS is catch all, with both LGBT people and right wingers in its ranks. But in practice, its an EU puppet. Supported and propped up by EU, slowly working on official recognition of Kosovo, forces military to hold drills with NATO, is willing to sell our natural resources to EU companies. But on TV, Vučić acts like a friend of Russia, to fool demented and uneducated voters.
Humble-Bear@reddit
That is exactly why Serbia is not a complete shit stain of a country.
Vucic wants the benefits of the EU economically, to some extent, but he knows he must give up certain things the EU wants.
There is this illusion from nationalists like you that Serbia has another path besides EU integration.
If you only had any idea if the EU completely cut off Serbia, sanctioned serbia harshly, you would have the 90s all over again.
Ultra nationalists like you who have zero understanding of the economy simply do not think about anything, yet love to srBujete.
No-Ear5563@reddit
Do we need to be sanctioned? If we only have 2 choices, complete subjugation or isolation, is it really a choice, or is it forced? Why should I love EU in that case?
And I agree, trade with EU is good, cooperation is fine, but should we let them completely dictate our internal and foreign policy?
Humble-Bear@reddit
Our foreign policy is catastrophic anyway, sucking up to Russia and Israel, two of the most evil countries in the world today, alignment with EU foreign policy would be x100 better.
Well, you can be mad serbia is a small, weak, and insignificant country, and thus needs to be aligned with one of the superpowers of the world. It only makes sense to be the one that your geography, and hopefully value system, presents itself as the obvious choice.
No-Ear5563@reddit
Agree for Romania and Slovenia, disagree for Croatia and Bulgaria, those 2 barely outperform us after decades of huge EU funding and benefits. I'd even say that Bulgaria isn't any better than Serbia for the average citizen, which is hilarious.
EU can't fix our corruption, retarded economic policy and lack of work ethics. EU won't stop my dumbass neighbor from throwing entire kitchen appliances into the river and from burning random trash in his yard.
We have to lock in as a nation, no amount of cash and EU trade can fix laziness and lack of care.
Humble-Bear@reddit
This is laughable.
Bulgaria has no where near the corruption and mafia state that Serbia has.
Bulgaria has a significantly better cost of living situation for the average citizen.
Bulgaria does not have a corrupt police force and a failure of all institutions across the board.
I don't know your own financial situation but you are speaking from a place of ignorance if you disregard all of this, I can go on and on.
Incvbvs666@reddit
Why should we trust those who bombed us and supported those who killed us, cynically laughing all the way to respect our freedom or 'fix' anything in our country?
The desperation of pro-EU enthusiasts, like you, is palpable. EU is a morally bankrupt cabal of former colonial superpowers, butchers of the world, and their lapdogs. Their 'media freedom' is a farce. You think countries that routinely arrest people for their Facebook posts are some guardians of freedom?
Humble-Bear@reddit
Lmao, I won't even reply to this. Enjoy your life in Serbia brother, I'm sure the EU is super jealous of how great Serbia is. Land of the free, home of the brave ,educated ,enlightened radicals like you.
Machinekalibar@reddit
Bulgaria isnt really better. Even rheir nationalist tell that our villages look warmer with more people and more alive with better houses. Bulgaria has much lower taxation and have like 100 euro bigger salary only because of that. Its fair to mention that that difference is explained by Sofia having higher average wage than Belgrade for almost 500 euro. That means life outside of sofia and maybe varna is on same of worse quality than in serbia outside of belgrade and novi sae
Humble-Bear@reddit
There are major cities outside of Belgrade and Novi Sad that literally don't have running water.
https://www.reddit.com/r/serbia/comments/1tpx0yr/da_li_je_moguce_da_cacak_gornji_milanovac_arilje/
Life is so destitute in some of these places I don't think anything is similar to this in Bulgaria. But of course correct me if I am wrong.
But even comparing Sofia to Belgrade, there is a significant advantage to living in Sofia for the average person, and for most people around the average.
Machinekalibar@reddit
The region you have posted ironically has something bulgaria doesnt have. Blooming agriculture and alive villages thanks to fruits production and conservation. My gf is from there. All of houses are alive and goodlooking.
Machinekalibar@reddit
Average pay in every is found in 7th decile of top earners. Median salary is what most of people work for.
People dont have waters there because accident happened its not permanent
No-Ear5563@reddit
Lmao sucking up to Russia. How? Maybe on informer.
Also most of EU is sucking Israel off, so criticizing Serbia for Israel relations and praising EU in the same paragraph is hypocrisy. And I'd say that is one of the rare Serbian W's in the last 80 years, since we actually got something from Israel, advanced weapons and technology transfer for military technical institute
Humble-Bear@reddit
Further, to appease Russia and brainwash its own people, Serbia is freezing the Kosovo situation so that Russia can use it as a pawn for its own border expansion motivations, and that is the biggest concession and loss collectively Serbia.
Serbia would have been in the EU long ago had it just solved the Kosovo question, which there is only one answer, but instead Vucic is doing this prolonged piecemeal giving of concessions to an inevitable conclusion.
Incvbvs666@reddit
Really, tell us this 'answer'? To say yes to Kosovo independence and put all our people living there and our heritage at the mercy of Albanian ultranationalists?
Is that your answer?
Humble-Bear@reddit
Major delusion. An EU aligned Serbia would have much more persuasion of protecting minority Serb rights in Kosovo.
You clearly lack any understanding how diplomacy and spheres of influence work. You have a caveman brain understanding of only having a hammer, so everything in the world looks like a nail.
Incvbvs666@reddit
You think that the people who bombed us and openly and eagerly supported those who killed us and literally openly worked against every single Serb interest in the last 40 years will suddenly respect Serbian interests if we suck up to them?
Now, THAT is delusional!
Once we say 'yes' to Kosovo independence, it's all over. The treatment of Serbs becomes an internal issue to Kosovo and we have all seen how much the west cares about Kosovo Serbs living there.
Only stupid countries renounce their internationally recognized territory. Go ahead and tell Cypriots they should abandon North Cyprus or China that it should abandon Taiwan.
No-Ear5563@reddit
Most of Europe depends on Russian gas, just from other sources. Also trade with Russia is basically non existant, alot of military equipment deals got cancelled after 2022 too.
That just aint true, Macedonia for example did everything it could for its albanian minority, changed its name, and completely aligned economic and foreign policy with EU, yet there is no membership in sight.
Humble-Bear@reddit
Apples to oranges comparison, do you think Bulgaria would block Serbia?
Living_Rough_992@reddit
LGBT people are the only group in the country, besides students, who are 90% against Vučić.
No-Ear5563@reddit
I'm sure, that's why I said in theory. Actual right wingers also despise Vučić, but he managed to get some UDBA ones who larp as right wing.
Excellent-Red_8647@reddit (OP)
So basically like how Trump won the election with the uneducated masses
Humble-Bear@reddit
Yes, Trump and Vucic are quite similar, except Vucic is more intelligent. Vucic would love to be Trump if he could.
kiranJshah@reddit
I expect a different results in next serbian elections almost the same as what we had in nepal.

His support is at around 50%, +/- 3%. But bear in mind that there are also 50% who are against him, and probably more than 33% hate him from the bottom of their hearts.
No-Ear5563@reddit
His voter base is not going to grow, since its mainly 50+ year old yugonostalgics and government workers who have to vote for him to keep their jobs. If students manage to get votes from people who dont usually vote, its basically over for Vučić
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
Why would yugonostalgic vote for Vučić? Doesn't make any sense
No-Ear5563@reddit
Because he is LARPing as Tito. Neutral relations with all powers (at least in propaganda), flexing basic things such as infrastructure, inherited the party system from SFRJ. For example, most of his older voters see no problem with party based employment, because communists did the same thing.
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
If the only similarity is ‘strong state messaging and infrastructure projects,’ then you can make half of 20th-century leaders into Tito
The69thRussianBot@reddit
It's not about any policy similarities between Tito and Vučić. Rather, people drawn to cults of personalities will gravitate towards the biggest strongman in town, someone who is (or at least looks) authoritative. These voters are weak people looking for a sense of security, and our history explains why there are so many such people, though they do exist in every society.
Logical_Muffin_7685@reddit
And last 2 local elections that were held this and last year, he won also with 51%. So yes, a lot of people still support him. Nevermind the reasons.
Machinekalibar@reddit
The elections were held in rural parts of country. He doesnt have change in top 10 biggest cities in Serbia
Logical_Muffin_7685@reddit
Doesn't matter, unfortunately he still has support. Lets say at least 30% of people.
Apprehensive_Rub4924@reddit
Writing this as I assume that pro Vucic bots will appear to tell you some made up bs once again.
His voterbase essentially consists of uneducated rural people over the age of 60. That’s his key population group. Also, a big part of his voter base are forced people that work in state owned factories etc (and they‘d lose their job if they stopped voting for him- same counts for party meetings). Most of them can’t afford losing that sorry ass job so they are basically trapped. The rest are thugs that have direct profit from his party over businesses etc, you know the story.
Vucic has no clear agenda or ideology. He‘s the ultimate opportunist that goes with the wind. Today he‘s sucking off China, tomorrow Russia, the day after the EU and then repeat the cycle. He‘s essentially trying to copy Yugoslav diplomacy which ultimately leads him to being a spineless pos.
Under realistic (read: free & fair) election conditions, he would have some 30-33% today at best. Since we have everything BUT free & fair conditions, he will probably still have some ~40% or like 44% at best (with the usual methods: his thugs stealing the voter boxes after the elections get closed, forcing people to vote via door-to-door threatening campaigns, buying people things (fridges, fuel etc to vote, make them take a picture of their vote paper with the sns vote selected and imported voters from Bosnia for example) and so on.
The students (which are de facto our only opposition option) are realistically AT LEAST as strong as the sns under sns conditions- meaning somewhere between 40-44% (as I said, realistically even above that clearly but due to unfair conditions…). This is also the reason why Vucic (for the first time ever) refuses to call out early elections as he knows that it might be over for him. The last local elections even showed that besides all the bs from the sns party, the students are already bigger than the sns on a 1vs1 as the sns is too weak now to go out alone on any elections. They are basically a Frankenstein coalition of like 6 parties now.
It’s probably going to be a close race and a horrible day (in every way) when the elections come bc there’s going to be an ungodly amount of bs happening on every corner but I am confident that we will win at the end of the day. One way or another.
Humble-Bear@reddit
Can you help me understand how the student list is different from SNS politically?
I understand the ideas about reform of institutions and cracking down on corruption already.
Saintpuppet@reddit
It doesn't matter how they are different on paper, the only thing that matters is that SNS is a criminal organization and the other one is not. They need to fall in any way possible. Whatever SNS claims to be or want is not who they are in reality.
Humble-Bear@reddit
So you believe that fundamentally it is not the ideology of SNS that led to this current corrupt state, but the people in SNS?
Do you not see a path where having the ideology that SNS has, in fact can lead to the exact situation Serbia sees itself?
Apprehensive_Rub4924@reddit
All that sns/Vucic does is recycle 90s propaganda and exploit the trauma of mainly the older population. Comparing sns and the students list in any way is literally not possible. As the other guy already stated correctly , the sns is a literal mafia and the students are not. It’s really that simple. Also, the ideology is not the most important question in this timeline as the main task of the SL will be the fight against the corruption and the mafia. This is literally all that matters rn because things are really escalating. We need our state back in order to think about ideologies etc.
Vladimir Cvijan (rip) warned everybody already during the early stage of the sns reign- Vucic will bring the 90s back to Serbia. Look where we are now. He was right. He payed that with his life.
Humble-Bear@reddit
I agree with you, and I will vote for the SL.
But I fundamentally disagree that reigning in with populists, radicals, is going to work long term if Vucic and SNS fall.
Everyone is just focusing on Vucic falling. We have seen that story before, everyone said the same for Milosevic.
I don't think catch all is the right way to victory, but whatever, when I saw that's the direction SL was going, I knew hope was gone for Serbia to be a progressive place.
Saintpuppet@reddit
Bro what are you talking about, they are stealing and killing right in front of your eyes and you are talking about their ideology, who gives a fuck.
Janosh_Poha@reddit
Does one really need "support" if the elections have so many irregularities?
Excellent-Red_8647@reddit (OP)
Well maybe. But Orban lost aswell so it may be possible some support is needed
Janosh_Poha@reddit
Look at why Orban lost. Over the years he had lost support of many of his coalition partners. The current PM was one of those partners and a former ally. Vučić still hasn't lost enough of his coalition to mean election failure.
cleaner007@reddit
I don't think he has over 500k real voters, other votes are dead people, imported votes from Bosnia, and they steal over 10% minimum
epiktwice@reddit
I don't know how much but he has support especially among elders and rightwingers
Additional-Penalty97@reddit
Is there much political polarization in Serbia between Vucic supporters and opposers? Here at this point it looks like two different ways of life
GuessFortress@reddit
Yes. Similar to the US. I think right now world is becoming very polarized
iheartloud420@reddit
Kinda? Both sides cant stand eachother. We are most divided than we have ever been in history peobably
Incvbvs666@reddit
There is definitely a silent majority that supports him. Most of them don't feel like engaging with the opposition because the opposition has become spectacularly cultish and aggressive.
'Who doesn't jump is a ćaci.'
Translation, you're either with us or against us.
Needless to say, this has led the opposition to severely overestimate their popularity and peg their winning chances at a certainty, which in reality is anything but.
As for those 'protests', yeah, the opposition crowd went all in, but you would be remiss not to notice around these protests tons of people still going about their daily business like nothing was occurring. I was in the Milošević protests and I can tell you the mood then was completely different.
Quite simply, life in Serbia is very good, perhaps the best it's ever been in our country. Enough people are able to make a decent living that there is very little 'fuel' for a mass-revolutionary protest. The intense hatred of Vučić from the current opposition is more political in nature than anything else.
alkorisno@reddit
We cant give you real answers here as people like to lie to themselevs on reddit because they see everything as advertisement. We cant have a realistic discussion here.
Vucic has more media, more money and more EU support. Oppsition is also willing to rather make a coalition with him then some new block of politicians from students list.
Students are very strong politicly, very very imptesive with that low of money and media and such a short time. But elections are a system designed for the rich, it is very optimistic to think that change can be done through such systems of representative democracy. Blockades gave huge results, direct democracy biggest protests in serbian history. But elections is a rich mans game, those hirarchical strutures favor coruption
Fickle-Message-6143@reddit
His party had 800 000 members few years ago. Even if numbers fallen it is still at least 500k.
Then on top of that you have people that aren't members but vote for him. Probably up to 1 millions, could be less.
Apprehensive_Rub4924@reddit
Just for the reference, the sns has more members per capita than the Chinese CCP.
Living_Rough_992@reddit
People are being blackmailed to join the party in order to keep their jobs in public institutions, police, and state companies run by the government. So the membership numbers so not say a lot.
True-Blacksmith4235@reddit
He has support among pensioners the most and people in rural areas (not to generalise, there are small places that are against him), also a lot of regime people are employed by them (especially in state institutions) and members of the party.
sonnygreen42@reddit
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
Of course he has support, but the problem is the number of people who don’t vote at all.
baddzie@reddit
He has some level of support, I would put it at around 32-33%, though I am no expert. He has lost a lot of support, but still, there are many, especially in the countryside, who will vote for him.
Many of his voters would maybe change their mind, but the problem is that they have very limited information, they are mostly old people in the countryside who only have a couple of channels on TV, and most of them are strictly controlled by Vucic, so they aren't getting any information and would probably believe anything if they were told on TV
