Logical but unpopular position: we're all going to be eating lab-grown meat some day. I know it gives people the ick but I am unironically in favor of it not only because it's more humane but because I think it'll eventually prove to be cheaper and higher quality than farming.
That said, I also believe we need to maintain old school livestock breeding and farming, not only for those who prefer it but also to make our food supply more robust.

Why unironically? It is very ironic

They taste good, grow fast, and are easily factory farmable.
avagrantthought@reddit
Dogs too.
white_equatorial@reddit
Dog meat is not tender
AsparagusTrick1391@reddit
avagrantthought@reddit
It still tastes good.
The_Nude_Mocracy@reddit
That's why you eat the puppies
Altruistic-Local-541@reddit
you could breed them to be more tender
Spiritual_Bus1125@reddit
Not really tho
You can start your breeding program if you want to
girlgamerpoi@reddit
Earth can be cruel. Must eat other cute and fluffy creatures to stay alive. Must fight your kins for resources and to produce. Human is just the top winner of this.
avagrantthought@reddit
You don't have to eat baby chicks to stay alive lol.
You assume that we "fight" for resources?
We've killed and bred so many pigs that 90% of the entirety of them are created in factory farms. We've practically eradicated cows, chickens and pigs from nature.
This isn't some sort of free for all. Pigs can live for years but are bred, trapped in a pig crate, bred and killed within a few months. Cows can live till 20 but it's extremely rare that they ever reach 5 years old in factory farms.
Male chicks are useless to the egg and chicken industry. Why do you think the majority of male chicks are unironically killed within a few HOURS of life inside a chicken blender?
we absolutely don't need to be doing this.
Arci996@reddit
In the EU killing the male chicks has been outlawed for a couple of years, some farms use mri machines to do mri on the eggs to find out the sex of the chick, male eggs get discarded.
It’s not perfect but abortion sure is a lot better than murder.
SoupaMayo@reddit
You know what shock me the most in this situation? In a distant futur, other intelligent species could do archeology on Earth and find a fuck ton of chicken and pig bones in the big hole we dig for the carcass and think that we were either pigs or birds
ElectroMagnetsYo@reddit
Dude the aliens are going to think we kept dinosaurs in big houses as pets
Codacc69420@reddit
If it wasn’t us they’d be eaten alive in the wild
avagrantthought@reddit
Except 90% of these animals didn't and would have never been born in the wild. We bred then intoe existence by the billions.
And what is this logic? Int he would they'd at least live free and die very possibly close to their natural life spawn.
We kill then at few days olds in fucking blenders.
Are you being serious rn?
LonelyPermit2306@reddit
Not true, most of them would but some would survive to old age.
VonFatalis@reddit
The argument isn't to eat or not eat them, it's always been about minimising unnecessary suffering.
I'm sure even you can admit that the modern desire to have meat for every meal of every day while still being affordable is increasing the demand, which can only be reasonably met through factory farms.
I have no issue with killing an animal for food, but i'm also not gonna relish in causing their standard of living before the slaughter to be atrocious.

IanLooklup@reddit
What kind of pork are you eating if you get a small amount of meat from an entire pig
Downtown_Ninja_7154@reddit
Piglets probably? Some people like eating juvenile animals for some reason.
ThrowawayITA_@reddit
Piglets are delicious, the meat you get is very different from regular pork, it's already tender and the fat melts very easily, it becomes less meaty and more sweetish.
UkraineMykraine@reddit
I believe they're talking about redditors.

Why do all people who are proud to eat meat use the same shitty phrases? "why are they so tasty if they don't want to be eaten", "i'll eat twice as more meat to nullify your vegetarianism", you guys are literally bots.
thatweirdguyted@reddit
Honestly i figured it was a shit post thread, and not an actual intellectual discussion on the ethics and alternatives of vegetarianism versus meat consumption. So I wasn't being serious with my comments.
But since that's road you want to go down, I will say that vegetarians as a whole are the worst people to deal with. They visibly hate on anyone who doesn't agree hard enough with their philosophy, they refuse any compromise or mutual understanding, they casually do shit to other people on the subject of food that they would never want done to them, and they have the biggest goddamn martyr complex. I genuinely think the lack of protein makes them bitchy.
Double_Today_289@reddit
Vegans and vegetarians are different. I'll assume you're talking about vegans.
From a vegan's POV, people supporting eating meat or other animal products are essentially profiting/engaging in animal slavery and cruelty, which they view as equal to human slavery/cruelty.
How would you feel if you were an abolitionist in 1830 America?
thatweirdguyted@reddit
I never said I didn't understand their motivation. I get it. I don't agree with their assessment, and that means we're not going to approach the problem the same way.
For them, anything less than their standard of action is complicity. And I get that it makes me their enemy. But I'm just trying to live my life and I don't care to be affected by them at all. So they're forcing me to choose to be one of them or to be against them, and that's a choice that they have made. I don't want to fight them but I won't serve their interests either.
assbutt-cheek@reddit
hey so just want to comment a bit
these are extreme vegans
im a vegan myself, and you just gotta accept that in some way you are supporting suffering. vaccines, for example? tested on animals. are we meant to deny them? hell no. same goes for meds, and other shit.
i think any less consumption is already doing solid fucking work. if you wanna get nitpicky about being as 100% ethical as possible, shit gets weird, but no one can do that shit.
genuinely, dont listen to the "one of them or against them" group. theyre morons. any less animal consumption should be an appreciated effort, because perfectly ethical consumption does not exist in the first place
thatweirdguyted@reddit
I agree with you. And of course there are plenty of vegans and vegetarians who are happy to do their own thing. We just don't see them because they're doing their own thing.
And that's the difference right there. I do my own thing as well. And if we were sat at a table talking about things in general and it came up, I'm sure we could still have a pleasant chat about it, maybe even change our perspectives a bit. But I know in my heart that if someone I've never met comes up to challenge me on these issues, there's a 125% chance that they're going to be a dick about it.
assbutt-cheek@reddit
chance shoots up to 250% if yhey approach you with a camera
RadaRAW@reddit
Well I know what you mean, but that's the weird political left/woke thing. Did you ever heard of vegetarians that of opposite political spectrum? Because they exist and I know few of them and you probably never heard of them, because who's right is it to tell what to eat right?
The_Nude_Mocracy@reddit

The_Nude_Mocracy@reddit

thatweirdguyted@reddit
I don't agree with that at all. I'm left wing and I believe in most of that jazz but I also respect that other people have to have their own hearts and minds and do what is right for them.
Vegetarians are a lot like the religious right. They think they're the only ones who are living correctly, and it's their mission to spread the gospel. Which also means acting shitty to everyone who says no.
Razor265@reddit
Nice work perpetuating the stereotype that people who unironically use the term 'woke' are fucking brain-dead.

Chicks are cute, chickens are horrible fucks of which broilers(the kind you eat) are typically ugly. Get over it or become a vegan.
avagrantthought@reddit
Who cares if they are ugly and horrible? If that was the criteria of what we chose to kill and eta things, half of this sub would become food.
Stlr_Mn@reddit
“Who cares if they ate ugly and horrible” ANON cares that they’re cute.
As to horrible, they’re thoughtless monsters, why feel bad?
“Half this sub would become food” they’d be contributing more than they are now
