That is a gorgeous T680. I didn't know Kenworth was in Southern Africa, would love to see more pics and videos from that Region.

Looks like Mexico to me.

Damn man, that sounds brutal. HOS + no dropped trailers is a different kind of expedition. I can't imagine 10-11 hours then getting stuck because someone else ran out of clock .
Grass is always greener I guess. Here I'm worried about lions, you're worried about Petro and split shifts. Hope you get that California run soon .
Anyone else here done both? Long-haul in the US and overlanding in Africa? Curious how they compare .

10k km is the goal for this loop yeah. Still sounds insane saying it out loud .
And you're right, waiting on someone else's clock would kill me. That's the main reason I'm building this rig. No dispatch, no delivery windows, just fuel range and daylight .
If you ever ditch the northeast runs and want to try overlanding, first beer in Botswana is on me. Any spots in the US you'd compare to the Kalahari? I'm trying to train my brain for that kind of empty .

That 10k sounds solid but man, the no dropped trailer thing would drive me crazy. Being stuck waiting for another driver to finish their clock is such a killer when you're ready to move. At least you got that overlanding trip lined up soon though, even if the US long-haul grind has been beating you down lately with all those northeast runs.

I feel the same but my license has an address on it. After two months I was going to go there. 10-11 hours ago I parked somewhere else so another driver could take this loaded trailer and they actually enforce “no dropped trailers” so I can’t just leave it here. I’m also supposed to hook to their empty because, again, no dropped trailers. They don’t care if you drop and hook but they’ll tow your shit if you drop and leave. The other driver was still loaded when I met them. They had 5 hours on their clock and they don’t do splits. They ran out of hours and I’m at loves and they’re at Petro.
Home is where I parked for two months but I’m supposed to be sleeping in an actual house for 5 days. Looks like I’m doing that for 4. I’ll go home in the morning instead of at night and maybe only 7 more hours of waiting but damn I’m sick of being in this truck.
Whole time requesting that I go west. Everything delivered or picked up in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, or Minnesota except one Missouri trip, one trip to Texas, and one trip to South Carolina. “West” my ass. The biggest west trip was from Elizabeth NJ to Gaylord MN. 1280 miles or so for a single load but fuckin’ Elizabeth NJ.
Maybe next time California, Arizona, and/or Utah/Idaho. At least once I hope. Tired of New York.

First big trip is 8 weeks through Namibia/Botswana in March. If you've done a similar route in a big truck, drop your must-see spots. Trying to avoid the tourist traps .
