I think the kids are gonna be alright

smoothloam@reddit
Yeah, but I’d really like to see kids getting some exercise on a bicycle.
Pleasant_Coast_1294@reddit
I'd just like to point out that you can use most ebikes as regular bikes
Capn_Flags@reddit
If they don’t have an adjustable seat, how do people optimize it for using pedals? Do they adjust in a way I can’t see? 🤷
OmnipresentPheasant@reddit
The pedals are for show, it's about the throttle. If the battery fails I guess ride standing home.
Ramone45454@reddit
On an emoto yeah, on an ebike you have to be able to pedal or legally it’s not an ebike
Verneff@reddit
And how many of the bikes in OP's picture would be reasonable to try riding home with no battery?
Ranccor@reddit
The vast majority of e-bike are regular bikes with a battery strapped onto it.
Pleasant_Coast_1294@reddit
Most actually do have adjustable seats. It's the moped style types that don't and that's like...one style out of at least six (that I can think of off of the top of my head). But I've seen adults ride bicycles made for kids so I imagine if someone can pedal one of those they can pedal a moped style ebike. People using ebikes often use pedal assist mode to save battery rather than just going for full throttle. That's the whole point of it being a bike rather than a moped or a scooter.
Ramone45454@reddit
That’s what I wanted to say. On my Aventon Soltera 2.5 it only has a 350 watt motor that only assists up to 20 but on the lower assist levels it usually is harder to bike since e-bikes are a lot heavier
WumboTactical@reddit (OP)
Eh this is an area where from one end of the school district to the other is easily 4 or 5 miles. Especially since it’s Arizona I can see not wanting to ride that. “Back in my day” we rode bikes but I was “the crazy one” because I’d ride that, but most of my friends wouldn’t. If e-bikes gets these kids together even if they live a ways apart I’m all for it.
Ok_Armadillo_1336@reddit
“Back in my day” we rode bikes but I was “the crazy one” because I’d ride that, but most of my friends wouldn’t.
That is something, isn't it? It made me remember: in 7th or 8th grade I got suspended from bus for some reason and I had to ride my bike seven miles to school (for a week). Other than having to get up a little bit earlier, it was actually super fun. LOL. Jokes on them!
OkGuide3784@reddit
if people are scared of a 4 mile bike ride then they're horribly out of shape
Gatorpatch@reddit
Better them zooming around outside than stuck at home waiting on their parents to drive them wherever. Kids sound be allowed to roam and explore and if ebikes facilitate that then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Idk why we've gotta be judgy, esp on /r/ebikes
smoothloam@reddit
It’s great they can roam, I’m just saying with an obesity rate of 40% in the US this is the age at which kids pick up the habits that last them a lifestyle.
Gatorpatch@reddit
Better biking around with assistance than the average American pastime, not going outside your car at all except to get fast food.
Rushfan2021@reddit
Same for the adults.
Ranccor@reddit
Same. It is why I bought an e-bike for my commute to work.
smoothloam@reddit
Couldn’t agree more, but figured I’d get too much hate for saying that here on the e-bike sub.
edelweiss_pirates_no@reddit
No!
I want to see what happens when they get none.
Pleasant_Coast_1294@reddit
You're actually hilarious 😂
Immediate-Shape-8933@reddit
But then they sadly would rather go inside not be with friends and play iPad
Reasonable-Tart6669@reddit
There is tons of hate out there for kids on high powered bikes but in my neighborhood I’m seeing kids traveling all over and I love that it can give them that opportunity.
Helichopper@reddit
Yeah I totally trust 12 year olds on mini motorcycles breaking the speed limit, running stop signs, and running from the police.
Ch40440@reddit
6th graders? Hopefully not 😳
Helichopper@reddit
Yes. In my neighborhood at least
iH8MotherTeresa@reddit
Kids shouldn't be on high powered bikes. What are you on about?
TheSussyWaffle@reddit
No they are not, those helmets are wholly ineffective at e-moto speeds. They need full motorcycle helmets.
WumboTactical@reddit (OP)
I don’t think most of these are “E-motos” they’re just class 3 bikes with banana seats. And even if some go faster you’re only as fast as the slowest person in the pack…
Taiyoryu@reddit
If they have a throttle that doesn't cutoff at 20mph, they are not class 3.
BIGTIMElesbo@reddit
You are correct. These bikes can’t really make it past 25mph. The mini bike is Cousin Mark.
ABROKENPIECEOFGLASS@reddit
Minibike looks like a mega moto and they hit 35 out of the box. Im a lurker here but wont pull the trigger, my mini bikes are too much fun. Takes 1 minite to gas and go, no need to wait for a charge. Upgrades are cheap and the bikes cost between $400‐$800
HngryZmbie@reddit
My son and his friends all ride around on e-bikes or scooters and it's great. I wish we had this kind of stuff back in the 80's and 90's.
Ok-Carpenter-8455@reddit
Almost 100% certain this is AZ. I'm in Phx and see them all the time. They love this style frame. Good to see them outside inside on their phones.
DowntownFresnoBiking@reddit
Genuine question, how do these not get stolen?
RemarkableKiwi5082@reddit
Really just depends where you’re at, everyone in my hometown leaves their back doors unlocked for neighbors and friends.
Ok_Armadillo_1336@reddit
That was my thought, too.
But isn't getting a bike stolen a rite of passage as a kid? :-P Like: "lock your bike!" is a lesson that just can't be learned the easy way.
Ch40440@reddit
They will if not locked up or with a good lock
DowntownFresnoBiking@reddit
Even with a good lock I’d think they would. I wouldn’t even leave my $400 bike out with a lock, some of these are $3000+ just sitting there
Sensitive_Paper2471@reddit
those are some rich kids
Extreme_Health_9827@reddit
Those are dirt bikes and the cops aren't doing their jobs they need to be removed from our streets
khavii@reddit
We used to do this in the 80s and 90s, replace the ebikes with regular bikes or dirt bikes depending on the age range and it's us. Gas stations, fast food joints and pizza parlors were always surrounded by kids vehicles.
KeanuIsACat@reddit
We used to do the same thing as kids back in the 90s, but on old motorcycles. It's awesome that e-stuff has opened it up to more kids.
Ch40440@reddit
Couldn’t agree more. Just don’t be crazy in neighborhoods or on busy roads.
ChardNo5532@reddit
They are gonna out law them the whole e-bike classification creates so many legal problems it’s doomed
Ch40440@reddit
Outlaw basically a sit down scooter lmao… okay kiddo
cash_jc@reddit
Please tell me those kids are in a Karate gang.
BillyBonez_@reddit
Heck yeah, I get stoked by how many kids are out riding in my town. It’s like Stand By Me meets Back to the Future out here and I’m all about it
Also I see you’re already being visited by the miserable people who make up this sub and seethe at these type of bikes 😅🙄
TopRepulsive4766@reddit
Yes. This site is full of karens who have probably rarely ridden an ebike, and almost certainly never ridden an emoto. They find some sensational news article and splash it everywhere to further their misaligned agendas. Of course it's sad news, but we've all already seen it and it's definitely nowhere near the norm.
And of course the laws of their area must be obeyed everywhere (even on private property it seems).
And since they have so much extra time on their hands due to having no life, they love that downvote button.
Embarrassed_Sail5161@reddit
Yep, of course they downvoted you for this comment as well
TopRepulsive4766@reddit
Yes. It amuses me. They know what's up. But of course they would never admit it.
BoringMode91@reddit
I recently bought an ebike and came here looking at what people were saying. I’ve never seen a sub be so against the thing it says it’s about. So weird.
SexiestPanda@reddit
I’m the way. This sub is very lowkey car brained.
vpach530@reddit
I can’t believe people actually use car brand unironically, what a loser you must be
SexiestPanda@reddit
Okay
TopRepulsive4766@reddit
Yes. But this isn't the only site with idiots against the main subject. You should see the video game reddits. If you happen to dislike a certain game, you're almost immediately attacked by fans of that game. And if you happen to like a game, you're almost immediately attacked by haters of that game.
Nothing new. Business as usual for the internet.
Now karens...get in the only exercise you get...hit that downvote button...lol
TopRepulsive4766@reddit
Looks familiar. Kids around here on ebikes like to congregate at fast-food places also.
It's nice to see kids out enjoying themselves. I hope they are all properly attired (helmets and so on).
djangelic@reddit
Same, pisses off the parents, but I love to see it
Theworker82@reddit
Adults: Kids need to get off the screen and go outside. Adults when kids go outside: Kids don't need to be doing that its dangerous.
TopRepulsive4766@reddit
Around here, I never see parents pissed off about it. The kids, for the most part, are well-behaved and respectful. And here, most people are acquainted with each other, so it's not like a bunch of hooligans are invading the restaurants.
Financial-Newt2291@reddit
It’s really great to see kids breaking the screen trend, I’m seeing it so much in my area too!
SexiestPanda@reddit
The most important thing is not relying on parents for rides. I’m currently in Copenhagen and it’s crazy how independent kids are here compared to America.
Significant-Pen-6049@reddit
Out having fun hitting Taco Bell on what looks like a beautiful night.
sentinel_of_ether@reddit
These kids are gonna be fat lol
Superb_Raccoon@reddit
Don't ride too close...
¡Ay Caramba!
Sotyka94@reddit
It's e scooters where I live. Always like 10-15 kids with like 5-10 e scooters parked out around MC do ads and such.
situationalism@reddit
Warms my heart. I published a non-fiction book last month that compares accessibility aspects of the 1970s "bike boom" for motorcycles to today's ongoing electric renaissance. This scene is exactly what I hope to see a lot more of in the coming years.

My 16-year-old self would’ve lost my mind over this setup
2shado2@reddit
Happy Cake Day!!🍰😁
kloyoh@reddit
Till they do something stupid
DefiantConsequence22@reddit
Fast food + fat tires = the ultimate vibe, honestly
hoganloaf@reddit
Looks like a hot place. I bet they get out a lot more than they otherwise would without the ebikes
WumboTactical@reddit (OP)
Scottsdale so yup. I ride my ebike year round but heck no I’m not riding a regular bike in July
yarn_slinger@reddit
Yup straight to the fast food joint without breaking a sweat.
Buddy407@reddit
It’s only the spandex edition Karens that have to go out of their way every chance they get on these subs to say something is an emoto, moped, or the tried and true that looks like a motorcycle and doesn’t belong here bs. Karen, go touch some grass. Your mangled view of the world from your computer or phone from your high horse isn’t how life outside actually is. I promise if you go outside, a gang of 100 kids on the dreadful emotos won’t chase you down and run you over. Get some fresh air, it’s actually really refreshing.
Aggravating-Lemon705@reddit
This has a weird nostalgia from a bygone time. Like the teen bikers of old but with the new gen’s spice.

Someone's gonna finger wag any moment now about how those aren't ebikes.

I think the actual motorcycle in the middle really ties it together.
hezuschristos@reddit
Front end of that one reminded me of the old Honda ATC (3wheeler).

These kids should be on their own power…
