3dMark scores for '98 Gateway G6-233, if anyone is curious.

All at 800x600, 16-bit for consistency. Running on original 15GB HDD which I assume is 5,400rpm.
P2-233 (stock) 32MB RAM STB Velocity 128 4MB (stock) 3DMark99 - 1200/2289 CPU 3DMark00 - DNF 3DMark01 - DNF
Upgraded to 256MB RAM 3DMark99 - 1235/2318 CPU (wash) 3DMark00 - 235 3DMark01 - DNF
Upgraded to ATi Rage 128 Pro 32MB 3DMark99 - 1945/2314 CPU (improvement) 3DMark00 - 816 (improvement) 3DMark01 - 295
Next upgrade is either a Celeron 400 MHz (the fastest my Slot 1 mobo can support on current BIOS version) or a P2 333 MHz.
I have no clue if these scores are any good. The Sims seems to run smoother, as does SC3kU.

Slotket let you run any faster than that?
Curious where a TNT2 would land. I ran K6-3 400-450s with TNT2 and 384mb ram in that era, the first "real" 3D capable machine of my own.

I have my doubts. https://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel/AL440LX.html says that I could run a Celeron 433 if I had BIOS P13 or higher. I'm at P11 which limits me to P2-333 or Celeron 400. I have no idea where to even get a more recent BIOS version. The computer runs pretty flawlessly, I'd hate to screw up a BIOS update.
Benchmarks from youtubers seem to peg the TNT2 as just slightly ahead of the Rage 128 Pro.

We absolutely should be able to track down the newer bios.

now see if you can swap out to a Riva128ZX!

I think that'd be a downgrade! Lower clock, less RAM. The OEM card in the unit is the STB Velocity 128, which is just a rebranded Riva 128.
MWink64@reddit
What do you mean rebranded? Rebranded from what?

Oh yeah, comparee to the ati card. Id just be keen on the difference in benchmarks on riva128. Vs zx variant, double the ram, higher ram clock speed, and faster throughput for better screens etc

get one of the industrial Parallel ATA SSDs to see how much of jump you the HDD will make?

What version of 3d mark are you running? I haven’t run it on my W98 PC.
