How delicate would data need to be with organics?

Hes probably as strong as 1938 superman at the bare minimum since he can hold back a car going full speed without struggling
When he has to deal with organics how delicate would he need to be at all times?

I believe that is the Vulcan nerve pinch. Heād have to use even less force, lest he smush the nerve into putty..
Zerodime@reddit
With probably the same face Data had when he had to THROW Geordy from the console.
Darkling183@reddit
Data: "I am programmed in multiple techniques, Commander Sela. For example, this is the Vulcan O pinch."
Sela: "Hahhh... My... mother... told me... nnngh... stories about you... Commander Data. I see she was-- ohhhhh!"
Data: "Precisely."

"This is the Vulcan O grip."

He is calculating the correct amount of nerve pressure to apply with his fingers. It must be firm but moderate, with only the speed and force required to achieve the desired outcome.

Fully Functional
phryan@reddit
Data was emotionally delicate in that circumstance for sure.
SOTG_Duncan_Idaho@reddit
He bends a thick alloy bar with a tensile strength of 40 kilo bar (roughly 10x that of steel) with ease. That's 600,000 pounds per square inch/300 tons per square inch.
Human skulls can be crushed with dozens to hundreds of psi. Google says as much as 1k depending on angle/skull/etc.
Crocs top out at about 4,000 psi of bite force.
Data has to use <<1% of his total strength to not pulp any human he grabs. With delicate things like soft tissue, a minescule amount of even 1%.
Shamanjoe@reddit
They show his strength most consistently in encounters with the Borg. In BOBW, he grabs a Borg by the arm and is able to hold him still without exerting any visible effort. In the beginning of Descent (I think) he fights the Borg and throws one across the room, and later in the holodeck when heās recreating the experience trying to feel emotion again, he stops the Borgās arm, pushes it back, and flings him across the room, again with no visible effort..
Not a Borg episode, but in Hero Worship he also lifts that giant beam off of the boy like nothing. I also canāt count how many episodes he effortlessly forces open a door, usually AFTER Worf has humiliated himself by struggling to move it and failing š
Tricky_Peace@reddit
Makes me think at his top strength heād be able to throw the Borg through the bulkhead. The question would become what would give out first - the Borgs body or the bulkhead
Shamanjoe@reddit
Iām going with the Borg body giving out first, since theyāre cybernetically enhanced humanoids for the most part, based on what we see when both Picard and Seven of Nine are reverted back to baseline human (or close to baseline in Sevenās case).
rbktn168@reddit
The bar is 10 times stronger than mild steel, and 4 times stronger than titanium of equal size. But bending a relatively thin bar like that would take around low tens of tons of force. Hundreds of tons is how much force it would take to pull it apart in two, which is dramatically harder than bending it like he did.
Dostov@reddit
Just a reminder. While Data is being delicate with organics, he is indeed fully functional.
crapusername47@reddit
In āIn Theoryā, Data says that one of the things he is thinking about while kissing Jenna DāSora is exactly how much pressure he can safely apply to her lips.
I expect heās performing similar calculations constantly to avoid killing Spot or crushing a his control panel when heās at his post.
Shamanjoe@reddit
Isnāt he like an OG Terminator, machine underneath and a human equivalent outer coating? Itās got to be some kind of advanced polymer thatās soft to the touch, since he can grip things and have his fingertips conform to the shape like a human does, and make facial expressions.. I feel like if his skin wasnāt pliable weād hear all sorts of clicks on the console when he types, like plastic against glass instead of soft taps. (This is all in-universe stuff btw, I know Brent didnāt have mannequin hands on the show, lol)
RedditOfUnusualSize@reddit
Admittedly, Data's internal functioning kind of floats around depending on what the writers of an episode need from him. In "The Arsenal of Freedom", he expresses some reservations about whether a fall of a decent height would cause irreparable internal damage. Then in Star Trek: First Contact, he takes an extended burst from a machine gun at close range and he walks it off for comedic effect.
That being said, you're probably right. Some kind of high-pliable polymer that is soft enough to feel like skin, but resilient enough that he can bend sci-fi steel without the underlying mechanics ripping right through his skin
CHAOSHACKER@reddit
To be fair āThe arsenal of freedomā is a relatively early episode and in S1 in general its quite clear that heās still learning about himself and his own capabilities.
Mini_Marauder@reddit
On top of that, Data is quite heavy. I believe the jump in that episode was stated to be over 10 meters. That's a whole lot of momentum to withstand, so it makes sense to be concerned about the outcome. Even then he does it without repercussion, showing he is more than strong enough to handle such forces.
Shamanjoe@reddit
I always found it odd that when he meets his āMom,ā she falls and her whole arm comes off. Youād think she would be at least as durable as Data, if only to avoid having this exact kind of accident reveal what she is..
pacman529@reddit
This is one thing that's always felt kinda weird to me; Data is a Lieutenant Commander; he is THIRD IN COMMAND of Starfleet's FLAGSHIP. How many years of service would that take? I figured he knew about most of his physical capabilities by now, and at this point was just learning about "being human".
And don't get me started on how the hell his legal status wasn't established until Measure of a Man, as good as that episode is.
mousicle@reddit
Data likely has been upgrading components over time. He was able to be pierced with an arrow in QPID and later adds armor to be bullet proof. Geordie tells a story in Descent that Data sinks like a rock in water and in Insurrection he has a built in floatation device. There are lots of scenes and implications that he is upgrading.
Shamanjoe@reddit
The floatation device thing makes little sense, and is objectively a pretty stupid, throw-away joke, but it cracks me up so much, and I love it..
rbktn168@reddit
He got shot by 9mm, it's still not proof he can withstand arrows at all.
mousicle@reddit
Data bends parsteel like it's nothing, Riker claims it has a tensile strength of 40 kilobars, which is about 10 times as strong as regular steel. 40 Kilobars is about 580,000 psi. About 1000-2000 psi will break bone. So Data has to use less then 0.3% or his strength or less least he snap bones.
scottymac87@reddit
r/theydidthemath
rbktn168@reddit
If you're comparing ultimate tensile strength of bone like you are to the bar, the tensile strength of healthy human cortical bone is 15,000 to 20,000 psi.
Pale-Plate-3214@reddit
Mind you, he bends it with relative ease, so his true strength is probably still higher

Makes me wonder how insanely high he can jump.
Achmed_Ahmadinejad@reddit
But how many Worfs is that?
mousicle@reddit
Best strength feat we see from Worf is the ability to lift a man in the air with one arm. Worf is demonstrated to be about as strong as a normal strong human.

VE2NCG@reddit
Since he is fully fonctionnal, he must have data on a lot of species and how they can take pressure and so onā¦
bufandatl@reddit
As delicate as you with a raw egg. The sensors in his hand and fingers will tell him when to stop. Just like the nerves in yours do. He is an imitation of humanoid life he works just like any humanoid life.
Vulcans are supposedly also way stronger than humans and you didnāt ask how delicate Spock needs to be when he touches a human.
MaintenanceInternal@reddit
What is this question? You pose it like you're not an organic.
How can we give a measurement to what you're asking?
You're an organic, you know just how hard or delicate he would need to be.
What do you expect us to say? Oh a 2, he would definitely need to be a 2, and if I'm feeling extra raunchy he can give me pie to the 5th, oh yea Data baby give me that 3.14159.
Thowell3@reddit
I like to believe that unless in situations where his strength is needed the touch sensors in his skin would tell the tactile difference of surface tension and react to that. Only in situations where he is required to use his strength will he.
Either he or his father programed this program into his system, but who knows for sure. Maybe it is he just constantly has a program running to figure out the right levels, or alternatively maybe he read about the durability of materials and human flesh and programed how much strength he should use and made that a default program that governs how much of his strength he uses in his gay to day life.
SneakingCat@reddit
Delicate isn't really the word.
The word is measured, as in everything Data does is always measured.
lyidaValkris@reddit
Sela is just figuring out what her mother saw in him.
Bowlholiooo@reddit
When did data hold back a car?Ā
Darkling183@reddit
Emergence, on the holodeck.
aflyingsquanch@reddit
A random holodeck episode IIRC.
Cant remember which one though
Darkling183@reddit
One has to assume that in normal operating mode he produces the same amount of force that a regular human would. It's just that his body is capable of much more than that when required.
trr94001@reddit
In this case he incapacitated her by whispering in her ear āI banged your momā.

Bowlholiooo@reddit
When did he hold back a car?Ā
dnkroz3d@reddit
He already proved how delicate he was with Sela's mom in season 1.
CyberNinja23@reddit
The universe generally doesnāt prepare you for surviving an attack from your momās old sex robot.
South_Front_4589@reddit
It would largely depend on what he's doing. There is always a limiting factor to strength, and in some cases that limit is your own body weight.
But it wouldn't be a struggle for him. Using a portion of our full strength is extremely normal for us, to the point we don't always realise how much we do it. Data would be pretty well accustomed to using a specific level of power, and may in fact be even better at using an appropriate amount of strength than we are.
But in a situation like this, the strength limitation is his grip. He's providing the opposing force, and I imagine he's got incredible grip strength. He could probably crush a rock with his hands if he wanted.
MozemanATX@reddit
He would routinely have it dialed way back so as to not damage the control consoles he taps away at all day, or to inadvertently strangle Spot. I would think his mega strength would be an optional high-gear feature toggled on when needed, rather than a normal default he'd have to keep restrained most of the time.
amglasgow@reddit
Yeah, unlike a biological creature who has to learn how to control itself, Data can simply have a programmed maximum force exertion by the artificial muscles that he has to consciously override in an emergency.
shakebakelizard@reddit
Yeah it's sort of like a car that is capable of 1000+ hp but normally has that switched off, so it just does 300 hp around town.
Maxwe4@reddit
He was very delicate with her mother.
LOUDCO-HD@reddit
Youāll have to ask Lt.s Yar & DāSora and The Borg Queen to see how ādelicateā he was with them.
Capable_Sandwich_422@reddit
Heās waiting for the safe word.
CarsandTunes@reddit
He needs to use the same amount of force as other Organics use. Thankfully his brain is excellent at making calculations, and he can determine what force that is while simultaneously kissing someone, thinking about Duty reports, and his cat all at once lol
uroborous01@reddit
Considering that he has āmega strengthā (to quote picard in measure of a man). He would likely need to be very careful to not render her shoulder into a squished pulp.
MindlessNectarine374@reddit
I would assume that a positronic brain easily can control how much pressure he is applying.
TheClosetIsOnFire@reddit

EvernightStrangely@reddit
Depends on the organic. The (elasmomorph?) From that one episode, the one with the overzealous alien protector of a princess that tried to demand the extermination of a crew member for having a mildly contagious disease, could probably shapeshift into something capable of going toe to toe with Data.
bebopmechanic84@reddit
Heās likely using less than 10% strength if he has to handle a humanoid.
