Is it true that in 2027, cars in the USA will be required to have AI cameras inside the car watching you? Even turning off the car by itself if it thinks you're unfit to drive?

So like, I been seeing stuff on Reddit, YT, and Instagram about this. Who even made this idea and why? To me it seems invasive, wrong, illegal, and everything cause what do you mean a car will shut off at high heart rate, stress levels, and intoxication if the system even corrects that.
It's already horrible when you think about it cause imagine a scene of need to get somewhere for an emergency, in labor and dont want an ambulance, or just trying to escape from danger but cant all because a CAR now gets to decide if you are even allowed to drive. Plus if those can be hacked or people can watch you through the cameras and everything, especially if you have kids in the back now being recorded and put in some database, cause apparently the car is also going to track your data and be sold to people who wants your data.
Does anyone else thinks this should have never been signed in if this isn't some rumor a fool made up to scare people?

Post the links of where you saw this.

Just go on YouTube and search "AI cameras in car" and you should get related search results of 2027 new law. Cause apparently by YouTube and the people talking about it, said this was first suggested in 2020-2021, and officially brought into discussion in 2025.
edvurdsd@reddit
How old are you?
IceCreamIDK@reddit (OP)
Under 17 is all I'm saying.
Mr_IsLand@reddit
so the thing to do when you see a wild youtube claim like that - search google (not Ai) and find the boring adult business type websites and see if they are reporting the same thing - if not, then it is likely just sensationalist click baiting IMO.
IceCreamIDK@reddit (OP)
I tried to look for Gov or ORG, but all I got was some news websites instead, MSN, KBB, Yahoo autos, AND REDDIT POSTS APPARENTLY. Nothing actually gave me a bill of law or something stating what's going on, so I thought it was some live TV announcement thing that wasn't written or something yet.
edvurdsd@reddit
Yeah makes sense
stupidusername@reddit
you're the one making the post, "just go on youtube" should really be your job
phungki@reddit
Okay, please post links to the specific videos you’re finding and watching.
magus-21@reddit
I did that exact search and I see no credible results.
magus-21@reddit
OP, I got curious (because your question is pretty sensationalist) and checked your posting history, and it looks like you're just a kid in high school.
It sounds like you maybe saw/heard something that you misinterpreted, or else someone else misinterpreted for you.
IceCreamIDK@reddit (OP)
Well idk, but I hope these are all rumors and not a real thing next year cause I been seeing it on YouTube and Instagram all day.
jcstrat@reddit
If you watch one, the algorithm is set so you will see a bunch. You did it to yourself.
MenopauseMedicine@reddit
Well strangers on YouTube and instagram wouldn't just make shit up for views....
magus-21@reddit
I'll be frank with you, from your posting history it looks like you're just a kid in high school, and I think you need a bit more guidance on how to evaluate sources of information.
This series by Crash Course is a really great start.

Here's links since OP didn't post:

munche@reddit
And the relevant bits since nobody reads past a headline on reddit:
A law was passed asking the NHTSA to implement rules for advanced impaired driving tech. They have not yet made these rules nor have they said what rules they're thinking of implementing. Everything else is just people speculating and surprise most of them just imagine the most annoying possible thing and pretend that's what's happening.
IceCreamIDK@reddit (OP)
So this might actually not be true of the AI camera thing in cars requirement? Just basically something that will either pass or just be removed if they don't add rules or something to follow along the law passed for NHTSA. If so, that makes me feel a little better and less paranoid of what 2027 will bring since 2026 already started horribly.
munche@reddit
Literally the only thing that happened is the NHTSA was directed to make a rule to do Something about impaired driving.
The deadline has passed twice and neither time have they actually made a rule.
IceCreamIDK@reddit (OP)
So basically NHTSA had failed twice to do so and stuff might not even happen?
munche@reddit
Consider who is in charge of our federal government right now and ask yourself how interested you think they are in passing rules for highway safety
IceCreamIDK@reddit (OP)
Based on whose "in charge", he's more focused on starting a war, gaining more control of the people, and want to limit options...SO IT'S POSSIBLE, if he wants to limit people's transportation in some way. But considering the backlash and everything on the war and... files, I'll say he's more focused on trying to drive us away from questioning him than a road law. All I'm going to say here.
jpk613@reddit
I think you’re thinking about how they want dash cams in commercial trucking vehicles.
IceCreamIDK@reddit (OP)
I thought those already existed since 2025 and was already a requirement?
TheCanadianShield99@reddit
Just to watch your MOM. 🤭
Throttlechopper@reddit
How about searching regulatory bodies like NHTSA? You might as well start doing research on TikTok /s
Alcomo@reddit
The federal government pushed a legal mandate for it to happen by 2027. But whether or not it actually does is another question. It's call Advanced Impaired Driving Prevention Technology link to the pdf
hypoglycemicrage@reddit
LOL no.
