Dems celebrate as republican primary voters choose to elect the most corrupt extremist candidates like Bo French who wants to deport legal Muslims and Native Americans

It was not supposed to be blow out, Dems should be terrified that Paxton had that much support. He's still very much the front runner, and polls should not be trusted.
harmoni-pet@reddit
yeah hardly something to celebrate. running against a horrific opponent is not the advantage dems think it is
mr_dr_professor_12@reddit
Yeah, we saw this play out 10 years ago. Can't let up or assume it's an easy road to victory.
CaughtALiteSneez@reddit
I’m not a traditional “dem” - certainly not a Republican either.
I think that perhaps this can be good for Talarico as people who aren’t true GOP would be more likely to vote for him than the known scumbag that is Paxton.
zughzz@reddit
Exactly, republicans are just trying harder to push more extreme policies. Therefore an extreme politician makes sense. All in the name of.. owning the liberals
Aromatic_Location@reddit
I'm up in McKinney. I'm not celebrating. I know my ultra "Christian" neighbors. I know how they will vote. I'm frustrated. I have to work here 2 more years before I'm vested and can move. I can't live in this den of dumbassery any more.

Dallas: Den of Dumbassery
Honestly? Where is the lie?
ElTamaulipas@reddit
Collin County has good but the reactionaries there are on another level.
I can't help but think of the Cormac McCarthy quote " But nothing is crueler than a coward, and the slaughter to come is probably beyond our imagining." when I think of the reactionaires that live there dur to their insanely cruel policies.
The same people screaming about "God's children are not for sale!" a few years ago Just voted for a guy who cut a sweetheart deal on a child sex offender.
But that shouldn't be too surprising. Look at how much of the Collin County community had the back of that coach in Prosper who ran interference for his son, or that other town in Collin County whose dad drunkenly shot his daughter after an argument about politics or that assistant Sheriff whose negligence killed a kid at a scuba site.

Coming from the state ready to re-elect Greg Abbott for his 70th term...we have to be louder than the morons here. Paxton got nearly 1 million votes. 1 million pedo protectors. Disgusting and disturbing to say the least. If that doesn't motivate people to vote, nothing will.
KellyAnn3106@reddit
Keep an eye on your voter registration. There are groups like the one in this CNN report that are filing false voter challenges that screw up your registration. They got me a few years ago when I'd been an active, registered voted in Denton County for more than 20 years.
ThatSandwich@reddit
I check my voter registration just about annually, seems to be around the time I renew my car registration. Just seems to be good practice with all the shit slinging lately.
MephistoHamProducts@reddit
I check quarterly and do it pretty much weekly in the run up to an election since the GOP likes to throw in sneaky, last minute purges.
shellbellgb@reddit
I like Talarico. I will vote for Talarico (I’m a Dem through and through and I hate what Reps have done to this state). But Paxton will win. Texas will NEVER be blue…NEVER (I’ll take every downvote and every “I told you so” if I’m wrong).
Reluctantziti@reddit
“If Democrats are so smart why do they so goddamn always.” We have a fascist movement rising in north Texas against Muslims and Indians but yeah Paxton is going to lose to a Democrat. /s
I really like Talarico, I think he has the best chance we’ve seen in awhile, but Paxton isn’t a “weaker” choice. Republicans don’t care how terrible their candidates are as long as they aren’t Democrats. The only value they have is hating the left.
RoyalRenn@reddit
Luckily only, what, 30% of the state is registered R? If the other 70% showed up and voted for the other person, the facists wouldn't be in power.
Reluctantziti@reddit
That’s actually not clear. Since Texas doesn’t require voters to register the state doesn’t publish the numbers.
Blackbear626@reddit
Texas voters are the reason why I have trust issues with community-led revolution because a lot of these morons are not able to clock monsters in their own party.
Such_Veterinarian682@reddit
The problem is that these extremist candidates appeal to the vast majority of Texans, who idolize and worship bullies and the needless display pf power. No matter how polarizing, candidates like Paxton and French have good chances of winning the election.
Celebrating them winning their party's primary is short sighted. They could absolutely win.
RoyalRenn@reddit
Nah, only a minority do. The real issue is that people won't "like" what these candidates are saying but don't bother to show up and vote for the other candidate. The person who cuts my hair is exactly this person. Her husband is Hispanic, she doesn't like elected men telling her what she can do with her body, and yet....she hasn't voted in forever.
Showing up is 80% of the battle, in life and everything else. And hardcore MAGA and conservatives show up to the polls whereas plenty of regular people can't be bothered to take an hour of their day to cast a ballot. Democracy isn't a given: someone is always looking to strip you of your rights and money if they can get away with it.
Such_Veterinarian682@reddit
Be that as it may, the upshot is the same. As much as I'd like to believe there is some silent middle, they may as well not exist.
Such-Professor6271@reddit
It looks like a lot of Republicans sat out this runoff. 1.4M voted while 2.2M voted in 2024
Operator_Starlight@reddit
They will win. And we'll be the worse for it.
thephotoman@reddit
I’m not celebrating this.
It means that Ken Paxton and Bo French are one step closer to power. And most Texans are still convinced that they need to own the libs.
Such-Professor6271@reddit
30 years of republican rule and republicans are running on "taking texas back from the liberal democrats. What???
djwurm@reddit
They are also running on keeping Sharia Law out of Texas and even still the border.
Like come on people Republicans have had 30 years of rule and they haven't fixed the border or tried to work with the Federal government to come up with a solution?
And how are all these threats of Sharia Law (which btw is complete fake and a boogeyman) all the sudden a real threat if you have been in control?
Such-Professor6271@reddit
They're mad because the big cities vote democrat and that's where everyone is moving to. Nobody is moving to bumfuck Texarkana, they're moving to Dallas and Houston. Abbott has dumped millions into Houston to turn it red. That won't happen unless there was major riggery. They know they're unpopular
sooner_25@reddit
The “tough on crime” party strikes again. They’re only tough on crime if you’re not white and in a position of power.
Such-Professor6271@reddit
Bro let out a guy who repeatedly assaulted the same child 3 years straight. But Texas is supposed to be "safe for children"? Not under Republicans, it's not. All you gotta do is be besties with Paxton or Abbott and the law does not apply to you.
FluidFisherman6843@reddit
Republicans support child rape. There really is no other way to put it
Snobolski@reddit
This needs to be the D messaging. Up and down the ballot in every race everywhere. “Republicans are the party of child rape.”
Curvol@reddit
The president is a felon, and rapist.
I dont think "safe for children" has been on the docket for a real long time.

"I've been eating barbeque my whole life." What a weird flex. Being vegan isn't like being a pedophile. It's actually an admirable ethical position. Why is needless violence a requirement for holding office?
aggierogue3@reddit
He’s trying to win over Texas voters. Saying you grew up eating bbq could not hurt. But sure he could have started by saying there’s nothing wrong with being vegan.
Dick_Lazer@reddit
Yep, and he realizes a huge amount of Texans are actually stupid enough to be swayed by shit like that. He has to think down at the Republican level, which at this point is borderline mentally disabled.
ice-eight@reddit
Well the GOP is acting like he spilled Dijon mustard on his tan suit while laughing kinda weird
alexdev50@reddit
It's not a 'weird flex', only a correction about being wrongly accused of something that is factually untrue. They name call and call him tofu talarico and he simply says I'm not though, you are lying (again).
Talarico is showing that Paxton and republicans are so scared and desperate to lie and paint him as something he is not, even scraping the bottom of the barrel for this. Today it's being a vegan, tomorrow it will be that Talarico is secretly a gay man, I guarantee it. They have nothing they can campaign on against his platform, so they have to attack his character. He's not the one with a mugshot though.
He is showing that if Paxton is lying about something as simple as this, imagine what else he can, and will, lie about.
sooner_25@reddit
I’ve never understood why dieting has become a political match
zughzz@reddit
Why wouldn’t the Republicans choose the worst option? I mean, do you see the state of the country? I really wasn’t quite sure, but in all honesty it makes sense that they chose him for nomination.
FluidFisherman6843@reddit
Paxton actively interfered to make sure a pedophile only got 60 days for repeatedly abusing a child.
If you vote for him, just admit to yourself that you support the sexual predators.
knightboatsolvecrime@reddit
Dems should not celebrate yet. We have not one anything statewide for over 20 years. Focus on the work ahead, because there is no telling what BS could be pulled this year
nohandsfootball@reddit
If Talarico wins I might be inclined to move back to Texas. If Paxton wins I'll know I made the right decision, because Paxton is a corrupt SoB.
Common-Charity9128@reddit
I tought… “We shall deport all the immigrants” was a line for Native Americans. /s
SlogginSlugGus@reddit
He is the modern day Pigs Party, the Patriarchy. They think all preachers, politicians, and police men are above the law, even as they break it. They believe in secret courts, and eating their own, like his did in this election.
BigCut4598@reddit
Don’t worry guys, the first thought that comes to this guys mind is trans kids. He’s coming to save the day.
Such-Professor6271@reddit
don't forget the scary Sharia Law and marijuana xD
