How much trouble am I in?

I started as a student at United Aviate Academy in May of 2024. Since then, to this day after two years I've only recieved my Commercial Pilots License. I haven't worked the past two years, and my loan I took out for school in may of 2024. Am I going to be kicked out? Should I pivot careers given I to my commercial license in June of 2025 and haven't still gotten my CFI license? How will this affect my. future opportunities and is there any real pathway from here?

Just explain to the school and your loan officer you’re just too busy fucking off. They’ll understand.

The more stories I read like this from people trying to move from the corporate world to aviation, the more I'm convinced that most office workers do absolutely jack shit all day. Seems like they struggle when faced with any moderate workload.

60% of the time, it works everytime
Working_Football1586@reddit
Does it effect your future career not really. Is having no motivation going to affect you negatively….definitely. There is a pretty hefty paycheck out there for you. You just gotta realize it’s under your books and work boots.

The real question is why is it taking so long?
flying-highh@reddit (OP)
I'll be honest and say that I haven't been focused on school, ive been goin home, dating, taking breaks and cant seem to pick up the material.
flying-highh@reddit (OP)
I am 35 and picking up the material feels hard. I have taken time often to go home and spent weeks back at a time, but I think it may be time to go home back to my corporate job. It's been two years here and Im at almost a year of no progress, I just dont know if the school will kick me out first.
RaidenMonster@reddit
You think this is hard, wait til your first airline gig 😂
NuclearDC10@reddit
Based on their replies there isn’t much chance of that happening
NuclearDC10@reddit
What has being 35 got to do with it? Thats not old and has no bearing on how well you learn new things. There are guys in their 60s and 70s passing commercial and CFI
Soggy-Ambassador-571@reddit
You’re 35? Seems like you should probably know that you have severely cooked yourself financially here unless you’re being funded by a trust.
vivalicious16@reddit
They should’ve kicked you out a long time ago. I cannot imagine how you managed to convince them to let you stay through weeks of going home, etc. 141s usually run a strict schedule.
Plus being 35 has nothing to do with it. People pick up the material at 70.

Nice way to waste a lot of money huh ?

I understand. I was scared to go home and lose my dreams by stepping away when I realized it was too hard for me. I dont have a college degree and have been trying to get back on track I just dont know if it matters now.
Gulag_For_Brits@reddit
Are you sure it's your dream if you care that little?
uktrucker1@reddit
you have to re evaluate if this is for you? you don’t seem to be taking it seriously enough, sorry to be blunt
Good_Distribution886@reddit
How did you join Aviate? How are you liking it so far? Would you recommend it?
TripNo1876@reddit
Gonna be honest, based on some of your replies, I don't think this is for you. Being a pilot means spending lots of time away from home and is a very high pressure environment. If you're having this many issues and just don't have the motivation to stay with it then it's probably time to move on to something else.
snopro80a@reddit
Is there a two year time limit? Why would you be kicked out?
flying-highh@reddit (OP)
I haven't gotten my CFI in the last 11 months.
snopro80a@reddit
It took me five years at a 141 to go from PPL to CFII. With a Bach degree. 5.5 years at a regional. (Two as a caprain) 1 year at a LCC before making it to a major. This is not a quick path! You got this keep kicking ass!
LikenSlayer@reddit
Super elite position "caprain"- function on very minimal sleep 🤣
snopro80a@reddit
Oh fuck😅 I’ve been overworked the past three weeks. Two weeks off now Captain!😂😂
LikenSlayer@reddit
Understandable. It's the season to grind. Then travel for a bit. Rinse & repeat. I'll be back at the office monday. In Soller, Spain right now

A number of these academy’s that are closely tied to airlines have time limits in total, or time in a certain rating. 141 schools are just weird
PropToThePeople_FMY@reddit
Taking two years to get a kid across the finish line at an airline sponsored academy has nothing to do with regulations. It's as simple as poor school management, poor execution and probably just not being good humans. 141/61 regulations being weird "probably" has zero to do with it.
Although, come to think of it, we're a weird 141 school and sometimes we're a weird 61 school depending on the weirdness of the student's needs and goals.
Wait!...maybe we are just weirdos and run a flight school in a weird way BUT....we don't know it's weird because we think it's normal but normal to us is just weird to everyone else..OMGZ
What a wacky weird way to think about it.
Gold-Weather_69@reddit
lol when are people going to wake up to this scam? 🤭
Discount_Confident@reddit
Everything is pretty upfront. "I dont like it" ≠ Scam
Mrs_Fagina@reddit
Why are you worried about being kicked out? You barely go there anyways. What’s the difference?
PropToThePeople_FMY@reddit
Honestly, you need to look at the terms and conditions you signed with the school. Those terms should dictate expectations of you as a student as well as their responsibilities as training provider.
Just go get your CFI done at American Flyers in a week and get out there CFI'ing. Don't wait for others to dictate your future.
I can guarantee they are not loosing sleep over you're slow progression; no one has a more vested intrest in your success than you do. Just go make it happen for yourself.
Best of luck and get er done!

Not many falling for this expensive ass scam? The hamster wheel aren’t turning as they thought…
Herkdrvr@reddit
The Aviate Student Catalog describes the "Training Course Outline" as available on student iPads.
It also defines "satisfactory academic progress" relative to the TCO (page 42). A student is "at-risk" if they are 10-20% over course mins (page 43).
Have you looked at your progress to determine where you fall relative to the projected times?
